Sorry to have vanished -- I've actually started using Facebook on a regular basis, so if you want to be my freyund there, that'd be fine. It's like Plurk, only the content is on average more interesting and less buttpatting.

But more importantly

There is so much pretty artwork on Hoshino's Instagram account. I want to color all of it. Suddenly social media seems like an amazing thing! Someone had better scan that new chapter the second it comes out. I'll translate it myself okay, someone just needs to get it to me!!!

Urghh I am so mad about the Charleston shooting -- I already ranted about it a little bit on [community profile] daily_liberal this morning, so I feel like I shouldn't add a second rant, but during the 15 minutes I was home this evening I heard Fox News doing their dance of bullshit, covering all the stereotypical talking points:

  • It isn't a pattern, it's just a single isolated incident!

  • He's just a kid! Therefore it's not his fault.

  • He was probably mentally ill! You know, with voices in his head! Therefore it's not his fault.

  • This is mysterious and no one can explain why it happened! Therefore it's not society's fault.

  • Racism was definitely not a factor.

  • wow, a Final Fantasy VII remake. Just what I wanted... about 20 years ago. I know there are still people who care about it, but I don't share the force of nostalgia they feel. Instead, I look at all the FFVII-branded crap that has come out in the last 20 years and I go, "...Ugh."

  • Kingdom Hearts III trailer! It's very pretty. Young Eraqus is pretty. I'm not 100% on board with the super pretty pseudorealistic CG but eh, Kingdom Hearts owns me. I'm just grateful that Sora gets to look like a teenager again. Also, he has incorporated plaid into his outfit!

  • The new Mass Effect trailer is basically a lot of pretty scenery and nothing else, but take my money.

  • The Earthbound game before Earthbound is finally coming to the USA! Oooh, I wonder if the third game will be brought over too... I should play Earthbound. And then the sequel, since everyone says Mother 3 is a devastatingly amazing game that made them all cry. I should play a lot of things, sob.

  • Apparently no Persona 5 news (at least not yesterday) but hahaha Shin Megami Tensei / Fire Emblem mashup game??? what. lol, look at all those ridicumazing gifs!!

Played some Tales of Xillia and watched some Code Geass. My Japanese copy of Vesperia is almost here! I was looking at the Tales wiki because I'm going to be playing Vesperia for a friend, and I found this:

"It is clear that Estelle's feelings towards Yuri are romantic in nature rather than sisterly, the two share a close friendship and Estelle often expressed her joy at being able to travel with Yuri and the rest of the party. It is, however, speculated that the relationship between Estelle and Yuri is romantic rather than that of siblings. There are several moments throughout the game that display their relationship as romantic. Towards the end of the game, Estelle states that she is excited about being able to stay with everyone "especially" Yuri."

Could you try a little harder? Maybe someone out there still has the impression that they're not getting married (you know, because they're not). I love that it says "They have a romantic relationship, but some people say that their relationship is romantic. END OF OPTIONS."

"Yuri and Judith began working together even while Judith was viewed as the party's enemy. Because they are relatively close in age, they are fond of flirting with each other, though due to their similar personalities it comes off more like friendly banter."

Ah, yes, the universal fact that all people close in age flirt with each other, but it's definitely platonic flirting, because of the reasons. Also, the 1 year between Judith and Estelle's ages makes a big difference flirting-wise! You would think that since flirting is age-dependent that Judith and Estelle would get more or less the same treatment, but you would be wrong. Judy gets all the flirting because of that 1 year, while Estelle gets treated like a friend, even though Yuri is hopelessly in love with her.

I mean, everyone knows men and women can't be friends if they are the lead characters of a video game. Therefore flirting with Judy = platonic, non-flirting with Estelle = romantic. Otherwise why would Estelle say she enjoys being with 5-7 people, of whom Yuri is one?! It is one of the several moments that prove their predestined love, the others being mumblemumblemumble.

Wikis are so great for factual, unbiased canon information.

I made some bad decisions last night, and as a result I am running on about 4 hours of sleep. I'm in that weird state where I feel weirdly great, but I have a subtle exhaustion headache I can sometimes feel when I move too fast, and I'm having a minor out of body sensation.

It's kind of awesome... she said because of the weirdly great feeling.

Must post to [community profile] fic_promptly before I forget

Played Tales of Xillia and watched some Code Geass this weekend. Will continue to do those things. I also discovered that Tales of Vesperia evidently released an "audio novel" last year talking about when Flynn and Yuri were kids and how they got to be friends, called Genealogy of the Condemned. It's only available on the [Japanese] Apple Store and for Android so... I will probably never get to experience it?? :( I once tried to translate an audio drama for Code Geass where Lelouch meets Kaguya when she's like 7 and convinces her that he's a demon who eats children. I wonder what happened to that. Is it still on my Google Drive?

I'm so tired

Ugh booooo I started up Tales of Xillia again and all my progress and all my preorder DLC is on the old Playstation 3. ;;;; So I'm starting over. With no costumes or anything! Unless I can redeem my DLC code more than once, but that's usually not how it works.

In other news, Tales of Vesperia PS3 Japanese to English patch is ooooout!! I'm so buying a new copy of the PS3 game... and all the shiny DLC, if it's still available... I'm still determined to finish FFX before I go crazy, though.

I wish I could find my Judith novels.

True fact about me: If you put a crazy sale on Steam or Humble Bundle, I will buy almost everything. I'm talking hundreds of dollars of stuff. My pile of Steam games I'll never play has almost doubled.

But holy crap NiGHTS into Dreams is on Steam I fucking loved that game as a kid but not the new game, the new game is kind of terrifying and I returned it right away. I don't think Nights should be allowed to speak. The classic NiGHTS into Dreams! I'm so excited. That game is so serene and peaceful and wonderful.

I'm going to play FFX for the rest of the day so I can feel good about meaningful progress and stuff, but in the meantime, my spastic attention is everywhere. I'm starting to get into Tales of Vesperia again a little bit, I think? I was explaining how awesome it is to a friend and I just... wanted it again. Nooooo attention span.

Having Megami Kouhosei urges again. Brains work in mysterious ways, for real. I listed out all the characters and pairings for it as a tool to help inspire me to come up with some [community profile] fic_promptly prompts for it (as well as Bleach, DGM, and TWEWY) and then looking at that list I suddenly had many feelings about its plethora of female characters, dynamic relationships and friendships, intriguing story and unsolved mysteries, etc. I was seized by the urge to go back and reread all my journal entries about it. If I weren't at work there's a good chance I'd have dug up Dual Potential, too, as embarrassing as I now find a lot of that content.

Ahh, the early 2000s. I was so young then.

Her art is crisp and clear, IIRC, it feels like coloring it would be fun...

I just want to say, for anyone who has doubts, that Windows 8 is officially the worst fucking thing ever released as an operating system.

The home screen thing is unintuitive and tricky, but whatever, you can disable that. What you can't disable is the buggy as shit internet connectivity. If I load a page of Bleach successfully, and I click to the next one, it will eventually fail to load after much churning. I will have to troubleshoot the connection and reconnect to the network. Then I will load the second page. Then by the time I click to the third one, the same thing will happen.

Sometimes it just seems to go into seizures where it grabs and then drops the Internet repeatedly for an hour at a time. It's incredibly frustrating.

Anyone know anything about T-Mobile? Use it, have friends who use it, anything?

This message brought to you by "I've discovered that it's cheaper to cancel my plan and get a new one than to buy a replacement for my soggy phone at full price, especially if T-Mobile pays my cancellation fee".

I've now watched the first 4 episodes of Daredevil (why is it so fucking hard to find time to watch this show?! I want to watch it so much) and it's great. I like Matt, I like how they depict his senses, I like him and Claire and I would be fine if they were just awesome friends but I ship it pretty hard (KIIIISS), and wow this show is violent. All the over-the-top explosions in the world aren't as violent as watching men just punching each other for five minutes, or a nice long scene of a man using a car door to slowly beat another man's head off.

It occurred to me recently that politics and current events is sort of my fandom now. It updates constantly, I follow it and have emotional reactions to it, I want to talk about it with other people who enjoy it... So, to that end, I created a new community: [community profile] daily_liberal

My plan is to update it on a mostly daily basis with quotes from a linked news article and some thoughts about it. Discussion in the comments will be encouraged, and a socially liberal slant will be taken. I thought I might begin posting probably next Monday (har, 4/20) so as to have some posts up for the beginning of [community profile] three_weeks_for_dw... Although idk maybe I should wait since I'm going to Scotland the first week of May... But idk maybe I should start now because I am certainly bursting with opinions and listening to Fox News in the background of my life is slowly driving me insane!

Anyway, you can join if you want to read about current events stuff and then say words about it. That way I won't be talking to myself.

Classic our society! These gendered items make me sad.

Also, here, have some Jeopardy skeeziness.

I read (part of) an interesting article about people attacking comedians for non-PC jokes, like what happened with Trevor Noah, soon-to-be host of the Daily Show. I personally didn't find his jokes funny, but I was more disappointed than offended. I was originally very pleased that he was chosen to be host, even though I don't know a lot about his sense of humor... Jokes that pander to very low common denominator humor like "haw haw if I hit a Jew with a German car it's like the Holocaust get it??" is less anti-Semitic/racist/fatphobic/whatever than it is just plain tasteless -- trying too hard and coming not nearly close to the mark. I think I'm more disappointed that (the last time I checked) he had responded to the criticism with a passive-aggressive comment about how people are unfairly judging his present comedy based on old material instead of... any sort of apology or regret or even real admission that the jokes weren't funny.

But I have every intention of waiting to see how he is when he's hosting instead of quitting in advance right now. As Jon (apparently) encouraged, Trevor Noah's The Daily Show will win or fail with me on its own merits.

(These parentheses are here because as it turns out, I have no life anymore without access to a computer at work.)

I've decided that the title of my autobiography shall be "Crying At My Desk".

[community profile] three_weeks_for_dw is coming up again, so I wanted to make sure everyone was aware of it! I'm going to try to participate this year, and relatedly, I'm going to try following this formula for community building. It's a little complicated by the fact that I'm computerless at work (still) and just want to zonk out when I get home and don't have access to stuff to casually internet browse during the day, but I'll try it anyway! Build a little community, people. Remember how fun communities could be? Plurk and Tumblr are echo chambers / voids of nothingness. Get back to your roots.

If you enjoyed Marvel's Agent Carter, or if you like awesome depictions of powerful ladies, you should go to the Save Our Shows poll and tell ABC to keep it on the air, since they're apparently debating it.

Last week I wrote two Bleach fics for [community profile] fic_promptly: Back Against The Wall, a Soifon piece about Urahara and his shadiness, and Future Perfect, a pre-canon Renji/Rukia pining piece.

I am vibrating with the need to play Story of Seasons. As the release date draws closer I've been filled with the need to play Harvest Moon and I keep checking Amazon to see if it's shipped yet because it said it would ship today but it also said I wouldn't get it until Thursday but it comes out tomorrow how can I wait until Thursday I will gnaw my arm off

Even though I have a midterm on Wednesday but w/e I can raise angora rabbits and camels on my farm wtf I just need this

Still having a Bleach moment, currently juggling Child of Light on Steam and Harvest Moon: A Tale of Two Towns. It's hard to get into my new job because I won't have a computer for... weeks, probably, so people just hand me huge stacks of paper to proof/label/read, so most of my work time is spent reading monotonous procedures about how procedures are decided upon until I faceplant and then stealthily reading library books on my iPhone or writing fanfic.

...Do you ever have one of those pairings that you ship so much that you can't imagine writing or roleplaying it or whatever because it's so perfect already that there's nowhere left to go, that you can't add anything to it? I think that is Renji and Rukia for me. I can't write anything except pre-canon angst for them. Once they're bffs again nothing I write feels like it could come close to expressing their perfection.

Scanslators have finally gone too far in their quest to lazily clean up manga! They have turned Yoruichi plaid.

Maybe they're not bothering to try because they know that by this point I am the only person still reading Bleach. So yeah, still liveblogging. And iconning again, because why not.

Might have good news to report soon but I refuse to jinx it by putting it out there on the internets too early. Instead, I will report the weird news: I'm going to try out this religion thing. You will find me tomorrow attending a potluck Shabbat service at a synagogue. What does one wear to a Shabbat service? I'm always seeing Jews in the Main Line district dressed all nice on Saturdays as they go to temple, so maybe I have an excuse to get dressed up for once!

Has everyone watched Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt on Netflix? If you liked 30 Rock, watch it immediately. Mainline it directly into your eyeballs. You will regret nothing. If you don't like 30 Rock, I will pray for you tomorrow.

Autoplay videos and videos that take you through a playlist even though you only clicked on one video are a scourge upon our Internet.

I know that I've already recently complained about watching TV shows online, but I'm going to complain about it again. I was trying to watch The Daily Show and The Nightly Show on Comedy Central's website, but the videos kept hanging on commercial breaks and never loading. So I thought, I'll watch them on Hulu, until I remembered that Hulu is a pain in the ass, also often hanging on commercial breaks while in addition mandating that I turn off my ad-blocker, forcing ads even on paid users, and playing commercials much louder than the actual show, a gross assault of capitalism which has literally been banned on actual TV.

So I thought, I'll watch it on Xfinity TV, and then I remembered that Comcast is a disgusting monster trying to ruin the Internet that refuses to play nice with any of my electronics and is planning to take over the damn world.

The last 24 hours has been awful and stressful, except that I sat down last night to peck at my final research paper (which I hadn't touched yet, due on Sunday) and wrote 85% of it in one fevered swoop that I didn't surface from until it was 11:30PM.
