RP Update

Okay, so here's the tentative premise. Bear in mind all of this is subject to change. After I get the opinions of the initial consultation group, and your input too!

Steampunk society. (Take a medieval kingdom and up the technology level: give them electricity and guns and all that jazz. They're still not modern by any means.) In the kingdom of Jaune, which has only two main kinds of weather -- cloudy and viciously stormy -- this steam technology is an incredible advantage, and has led to the rise of what are called technowizards. Technowizards can weave magic into technology, whereas normal magic merely makes technology short-circuit. Using their power, they have created androids: automatons with life, intelligence, and superhuman strength and speed. Between the technowizards and the androids, old magic is going out of style.

The old magic, the mages and the sorcerers and the witches, resent this. As do those who are afraid of the androids and their potential, or who have suffered somehow at the hands of android peace-keepers. So secretly, an underground movement begins to destroy the androids and the powerbase of the technowizards.

But the technowizards will fight for what's theirs... And in the midst of all this, what about the androids? Innocent creations with no rights, not recognized as people at all, but with personalities and beliefs of their own -- who now need to fight for their very survival?

That's the chaotic world I'm going to set our game in. There will be two distinct sides: magic versus technology. Some players will be mages or hostile non-magic civilians, others will be technowizards/engineers or androids. I expect healthy rivalries and cross-interests and other fun dynamics. I think it sounds pretty shiny~

Notes: Yes, I AM stealing from an intended novel of mine and Jason's, why do you ask? But the Spymaster of Jaune is not this technologically advanced, plus it deals with the ruling class -- the royal family and their guardians -- as opposed to the everyday civilians. So basically, we've taken Jaune and put it in an "alternate universe" where magic and high technology are commonplace, and then moved to a completely different focus for the story. Very little, if any, of the original Jaune will be included here, including characters.

Yes, I AM stealing from Saturnalia, Space Coyote-san's online webcomic. Although none of the setting or plot came from her, I shamelessly lifted a large chunk of the android subplot -- unintentionally, but I'm pretty positive that's where the inspiration came from. I'm terribly sorry if she catches wind of this, but I have every intention of emailing her and informing her of the game, plus giving her a credit and a link, so I hope she isn't too unhappy with me. ^^;; I do it out of love... Subconscious love, but hey.

Also, there is no set ending for this game, although several plot points will be set up along the way and you CAN expect the Queen and her family to get involved if things go on long enough -- it's fully possible, for example, for one group to "gain the ear" of the royal prince or the crown princess, or to petition the Queen to revoke laws or grant favors. So the actions of the players will decide everything.

^___^ Whaddaya think? If anybody has any ideas, or wants to clarify anything, or wants to jump on the bandwagon before it gets rolling, feel free to comment or IM me~
