The Almost-Disaster Wedding

Today was such an almost-disaster.

Last night, Justin and Bree, our ride, gave us their cell phone number and told us to meet them at 9AM at Davis Square. I left them a voice mail saying that that was fine, and giving them my cell number, etc. Went to bed, slept the sleep of the foolishly secure.

9AM, [livejournal.com profile] libekory and I are at Davis Square, in shiny dresses and jewelry, with gift in hand, etc. Nobody's there. I call Justin's cell and someone named Jim picks up. I call three more times, and leave a message on Jim's voice mail, because he's stopped answering my calls. (I can't hear him anyway, the call keeps cutting out. He's got terrible cell phone reception and I think he should know that.) We stand there for almost a half-hour wondering where our ride is.

I start thinking, hey, maybe I put in the wrong number, and before we like, give up and go home, I should see if I called the wrong number last night too. But LO, the number I dialed last night was CORRECT, and when I dial it, Bree picks up.

Justin was so busy waiting on an email from me that he forgot to check his voice mail (although he told Bree he had). They were already fifteen minutes out of Cambridge by the time I called -- they waited a bit, at a different exit than the one we were at, and then gave up and left, assuming I'd made no effort whatsoever to contact them.

They sounded very annoyed on the phone, but they turned around to pick us up, and realized I'd left a message by the time they got us. Then everyone was just very awkward, apologizing all over the place. (Of course he missed the voice mail, but if I hadn't assumed I didn't need to send an email...) I'm sure they regretted volunteering, but they were extremely sweet and friendly on both trips, and refused to take even my money for the gas.

We were twenty minutes late to the wedding, missed a reading and a song. We were in time for Nanette (Clarisse's mother) to sing, and for the parent ceremony and the lighting of candles, and for the vows, the rings, and the kiss. So basically we caught all the good stuff, but still felt like jerks, and missed the two of them going down the aisle in their gowns~~

Our table at the reception was lame, it was mostly Random People and their Random Guests, but I lent [livejournal.com profile] libekory my notebook and she wrote a drabble for me, and then we actually passed the notebook back and forth and wrote out roleplay tags like huge losers. But hey, we saved our feet a lot of pain in those heels?

I took lots of pictures though, and the food at the reception was fantastic. Nanette (CLARISSE'S MOTHER) fangirled over a new video game with me. The girls didn't mind our lateness and were very happy. And everything was beautiful.

...I've done the roleplaying via pass-the-notebook thing before. |D

They're so cute! And their dresses are so nice. ♥

And it's a good thing you made it. Can you imagine living with them if you hadn't? :P

*cuddles* I was late to one of my best friend's weddings. We looked for the church for an hour before we managed to find it. Darn tricky churches! Luckily, we had given ourselves some idiot time so we got there just as the bride and everyone was lining up to go in. Odd! So, we waited until they did that and then stood in the back. The place was pretty full as it was. I felt terrible, but Marc was just happy I was there. Or so he said. He may hate me forever secretly. ^_^
