For me it's not really generic panic -- in fact, I was getting all my news from wy1d, who far from playing up the terrifying part of it, was actively excited about how much bandwidth CNN was using. CNN was trying to downplay it. (He copied me several IM's from his superiors about how the article up on the website did a terrible job of it.)
But I lived in NYC, and my family lives on Long Island, and my stepfather was IN the Trade Centers when they were hit on 9/11. So the hair-trigger is, for me, partly personal. I told Yasha that if it had been San Fransisco I probably wouldn't have actively hyperventilated. I would've been worried, yeah, but not really freaking out. Ehe.
