Spelling battle!!

[livejournal.com profile] libekory and I just spent the last minute debating whether it is "smooths" or "smoothes". According to Word, it is the latter, and according to Firefox, it is the former. According to Dictionary.com, it is also "smoothes". According to Wikipedia, "smoothes" is a common misspelling of "smooths".

According to OED, John Milton and William Shakespeare used "smooths", and it has no quote using "smoothes".

That's good enough for me! Firefox gets a point back, after losing one for not having "okay".

(Yeah, this is how we entertain ourselves.)

For my part, I totally read smoothes as Smoothies, and I thought it was a ridiculous pronunciation thinger.

Mmm. Smoothies.

I love you for this post. Although it is driving me crazy because I believe it is smoothes and the evidence compells me to smooths. I resist!
