sincere | Nitpicking video games!! Crisis Core (part 1)

I've played into the start of chapter three, just past the ass-kicking of Wutai. This commentary is mostly flailing and sniffing, and I am extremely unspecific about nearly everything, so reading this you shouldn't be spoiled.

ZAAAAAACK. He is awesome and adorable in every conceivable way. I want to hug him all the time -- and then squeal when he goes from cute and fluffy to badass. When does he meet Aerith omnomnom.

Speaking of cute and fluffy and badass, the coolest thing in the game so far is without a doubt his epic duel with Yuffie.

I'm not too impressed with Angeal so far. Why the hell is the Buster Sword like the baton in a relay race? Why can't it just have been Zack's? Plus, in the ten minutes he's been on screen to date, he hardly said a thing that made any damn sense. Zack fails at life for not knowing what dumbapples are? Honor means not stealing from someone -- but only if he's your friend? He doesn't want to use his sword because then it would get worn out and that's more of a waste than letting it sit around uselessly?

(The dumbapples in particular reminded me of part of a Eugene Mirman joke. "She's as rude as a bearcat! Which is an animal I made up just now, and have decided is rude.")

Genesis had better have depth and original personality pouring out his ears, because what with the blatant ripping off he is doing just from character design, I am inclined to dislike him from the get-go.

Whatever. Tseng is so cute! I want more Turks. Despite my bitching, I'm totally into it. Zack is awesome you guys.

Genesis's design isn't ripped off, Genesis is Gackt. Voiced by him, designed after him, they even inserted him directly into that one clip in Dirge of Cerberus. There are a couple of other FF characters arguably based on Gackt but yeah. It's closer to them being ripoffs of Genesis' design than the other way around.

YAY TURKS. That's why I wish we got the cell phone game. Cause the Turks are, like, the best part of that universe. XD

I'm hoping that if the game does nothing else, it gives Sephiroth some character.

Hey, they made me really like Vincent with DoC, so it's not out of the question. ^^

If anything, that only makes me more disinclined to like him. :\ It sounds like kind of a poor design decision to base a character off someone you've already based characters off of like three times. XD So, while you are correct in that he's more the genuine item, I still think he's got a lot of work to do to prove himself as a character to me.

I'm under the impression that Shione of the Turks (one of the new Turks from Before Crisis) is so cool/cute/fun that I'll want to pair her with Zack instead of Aerith. XD BLASPHEMY?! But there's no reason I can't pair them both with him. :3 Maybe even all three of them. Lalala.

I never got around to playing DC, for like, a lolhundred reasons. So far I haven't seen as much... Sephiroth-with-personality as I'd like? I'm still very early on and have hope, though. There's going to be a lot more Sephiroth before I'm through, I know. XD

Well, to be fair, as far as I'm aware Squall is officially based on River Phoenix (except now I don't remember where I heard that), and Tidus just looks like a generic FF prettyboy. Gackt just happens to pretty much look like a generic FF pretty boy too XD I'm pretty certain the design decision was along the lines of "this guy's a huge FF fan, he'll write a song for us, he already has experience with voice acting and motion capture and swords and stuff" XDD But hey, you like who you like, and I guess it's pointless to discuss before you actually encounter him in the game...

I’ve liked Zack since my FF7 days, so I’ve been meaning to try and play Crisis Core but… It apparently hasn’t worked out very well.

I’m glad you seem to be enjoying it though. I’ve always thought that Zack was a great character and felt it a total waste that he hardly appeared in the previous games and the movie. :O
