Calamity!! Dressing rooms are srs bizness

I am extremely disappointed with almost everyone in [livejournal.com profile] talesofdressing and I definitely won't be going back there anymore. Not that they want me there anyway lololol, I'm an elitist h0r who likes my RP both IC AND fun AND without racial slurs! GTFO! Thanks, I will.

[livejournal.com profile] dressing_gummi is cute so far, though, and the CFUD crew seems happy to play with new people. Maybe I will join. Still nervous about joining with duplicates -- at least canon duplicates. Post-Score!Jade? He'd be so depressing. I doubt there are icons for a tiny!Sheena or Natalia, but I've always wanted to try amnesia!Mithos. I could play Nephry, I always feel her lack when there are Jades around to be traumatized by... but then I couldn't really bring in [livejournal.com profile] voiceofrappigs and I'm just getting a little crazy now, orz.

In video game news! I need to replay Tales of the Abyss to get my Luke voice back, I'm 95% done with the Luke/Natalia fic but I'm fretting about him. I also kind of want to replay Zelda: Twilight Princess. Need to finish Crisis Core (I, I don't want to finish) and Resident Evil Umbrella Chronicles (this game would be impossible to play without multiplayer). This is all in between my writing and my job searching. I have people out networking for me, though. ♥ I love people.

I should play Tales of Legendia, because I own it, but I can't -- get over -- how ugly everyone is. *sob*

You are like the second person on my flist who is boycotting [livejournal.com profile] talesofdressing |D;;

[identity profile] schwann.livejournal.com 2008-04-14 01:36 am (UTC)(link)
SERIOUS BUSINESS, INDEED.

I'm sorry that you're disappointed in the people at ToD. Admittedly, the way some people are reacting is a little childish. After an hour or so, I managed to calm down and really look at the situation and what people were saying, and, well... A lot of it is true. I'm just trying not to take sides now, as not to really hurt any of the people that I've made friends with, and to not put down the opinions of the people on the other side. Gah! It's supposed to be fun, why is this happening?

Playing duplicates of characters can be a liiittle scary, I admit. I always become so intimidated by other people that play the same character as I do. Honestly, I had convinced myself that you would hate my Peony, and tried to hide him from you a bit, haha! I'm lame like that. I... Wow. Another dressing room comm would probably be bad for me, but... Ergh. I just want to play Peony again, without all the emotional baggage.

And it seems I'm too wrapped up in MMORPGs to play real games. Such is my life. At least they aren't WoW.

Today, or just recently? I can understand either way, it's just an item of curiosity. XD It's getting ridonkulous over there.

[identity profile] iolites.livejournal.com 2008-04-14 01:41 am (UTC)(link)
I've been trying to avoid [livejournal.com profile] talesofdressing as much as possible. The premise sounds like it could be fun, but too much crack can be a bad thing. Racial slurs, though?

[identity profile] libekory.livejournal.com 2008-04-14 01:43 am (UTC)(link)
I have this female Jade in mind that needs to talk to as many Peonies as possible. She will break all of their heads a little. |D I'll be sad if duplicates don't show up, so I think you're both ridiculous. ♥

*not that she doesn't sympathize D: *

*cuddle!* I'm sorry to drag you into it again, I know it's hard when your flist is up in arms against each other. XD I really don't know why anyone had to get so excited about this -- it seemed like such a simple thing to me, but people piled on Mazoku's journal to deride her and her friends and declare on their LJs that you're not wanted here, gtfo if you don't like it as if that isn't exactly what they were trying to do.

No, I think your Peony is wonderful. ♥ And you deal with absurdity much better than me sfjslfjk XD If you could stand the paragraph format, I'd encourage you to app some form of AU Peony at Alteeeer. And I, um, don't mean to encourage you to do something you shouldn't, but.

What MMOs? WoW is only one I played extensively.

[identity profile] schwann.livejournal.com 2008-04-14 01:53 am (UTC)(link)
FEMALE!JADE, YOU SAY? Don't tempt me like that. My Peony's secret weakness may or may not be his best friend in female form. It would be easy to break his brain.

I-I AM A LITTLE RIDICULOUS, I ADMIT.

[identity profile] slayerofgod.livejournal.com 2008-04-14 01:58 am (UTC)(link)
I love how some people in fandom confuse actually having standards with elitism. Really, wanting characters to actually be in character? What a crime that is.

From what I've heard from various people, you're better off not playing Legendia.

[identity profile] schwann.livejournal.com 2008-04-14 02:03 am (UTC)(link)
♥~ Don't worry about it. I could have just not said anything and ignored that part of your entry, after all. After all of this today and such, I just feel the need to vent a little, and make my stand on the whole thing known. I haven't looked at her post again, and now I really don't want to. I'd probably end up just feeling terrible! Sigh. It might just be best if I just ignore the subject from now on, and not really get in discussions about it.

Hearing you say that makes me so happy, you have no idea. I can breathe a serious sigh of relief! ♥ I do spend a lot of my time at lulzy places, so it's no wonder I can deal with most of the stuff that I do. And, actually, I don't really mind paragraph format. I just... Need to kick my ass into gear about being motivated and finishing scenes and such. I'm so bad about leaving people hanging! AU Peony isn't taken, though? Wow, I'm just a little surprised. You're tempting meee~! I'd just need to think a bit on what would be a good idea, without it being something too obvious. Need to put my imagination to work. You really are a temptress. And, man, that Peony account I was mentioning even has a paid account still, I think... HMM.

Ragnarok Online, mostly. It's totally not because my friend and I have AU'd Jade and Peony into the setting. ... Peony is a female. It so works, though, which is really strange. And amazing. AND TAKES UP HOURS OF MY LIFE. All of my characters are TotA themed, actually. Peony, Natalia, Florian (also a woman, but the girl account had Ion's hair, so...), Anise... I want to get back into Lineage II, as well. Preeetty graaaphics.

[identity profile] kay-willow.livejournal.com 2008-04-14 02:13 am (UTC)(link)
There were some, uh, "gangsta" AU versions of characters whose players thought it would be funny to toss the *GASP* n-word around. It's not that big a deal until people start arguing that the n-word isn't racist, pasty white girls insisting that no one has the right to be offended by anything that hasn't offended them first.

And then the pedophile and the graphic child molestation logs sort of crossed the line for a lot of people. Myself included. And then the "fat" AU versions of characters... Yeah, I don't know. I don't mind crack, and I love AUs, but can it at least be... tasteful?

[identity profile] libekory.livejournal.com 2008-04-14 02:16 am (UTC)(link)
MWAHAHAHA-- I MEAN. I wouldn't do a thing like that!

She is totally tailor-made for brain-breaking. She started out being virtually indistinguishable from male!Jades, but then Events Happened, and now. Tee hee hee.

I would explain more, but I would hate to spoil the surprise. ♥

[identity profile] kay-willow.livejournal.com 2008-04-14 02:17 am (UTC)(link)
XD!! Oh, okay. I was just feeling bad because lol 90% of the Tales of characters in these games are either Abyss or Symphonia, and the Tales of Legendia characters seem so lonely, and I thought, maybe if I could force myself to play it despite the hideous character designs... But that's kind of a relief. Hah.

[identity profile] slayerofgod.livejournal.com 2008-04-14 02:32 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah. To go more in-depth, and to sound like less of a jerk(I apologize for that ^^;), when I worked at my old RPG website, the majority opinion of the staff was that it was really poorly put together, especially the gameplay. I mean, the skill usage system is convoluted to the point of idiocy, (http://www.rpgamer.com/news/Q2-2005/062405e.html) and that's just for starters.
ext_52683: (Default)

[identity profile] kay-willow.livejournal.com 2008-04-14 02:49 am (UTC)(link)
That's the best method, I think. I am totally rooting for you to escape unscathed from the drama of this. XD With any luck it'll settle to a simmer and be forgotten quickly enough, and in the meantime we I they can have fun over at [livejournal.com profile] dressing_gummi. :D *halo*

Peony is the only Peony there right now, it's totally sad! He has two different Saphirs to plague, though. I would be verrah excited to play with you. X3 So I encourage you to bounce ideas off meee. I suspect we need to re-advertise, because while I was full of RL drama I neglected the game and I think some of the fringe players (like two Ions lol?) may have wandered astray.

Ooooh, RO is fun stuff, although I haven't played it in a lolbillion years. ...but everything is more fun with the Tales cast, har. XD Female Peony is totally cool, though. [livejournal.com profile] libekory and I have been giggling over lesbians!Peony and Jade. Now that is fail.

[identity profile] voicing.livejournal.com 2008-04-14 02:53 am (UTC)(link)
How about Eternia or Phantasia (Symphonia's prequel, although it came first)?

I have yet to play Eternia, but Phantasia is pretty decent from what I've played so far. It's been a while since I last picked it up, though, so it may not be wise to take my word for it. XD

Need to finish Crisis Core (I, I don't want to finish)

Zack? That's why I've slowed down on playing. I'm in Nibelheim, but I've been doing sidequests and missions like crazy for my own emotional sake. :/
ext_52683: (Default)

[identity profile] kay-willow.livejournal.com 2008-04-14 02:59 am (UTC)(link)
I played through a good chunk of the first disc of Eternia, but I got very aggravated by the romantic plot. XD I would have gone for ANY configuration of the main characters EXCEPT for the one they were cruising for (Reid/Keele and Farah/Meredy? Cool! Reid/Meredy and Keele/Farah? Awesome! But Reid/Farah and Keele/Meredy? ...nothnx. ;_; )

I've never finished Phantasia, but I own the GBA version and have the SNES ROM... Hmm. I like it in theory.

Yes, the Zaaaack. I don't want him to dieeee. I want the super sekrit good ending. Woe.

[identity profile] voicing.livejournal.com 2008-04-14 03:09 am (UTC)(link)
I've never finished Phantasia, but I own the GBA version and have the SNES ROM... Hmm. I like it in theory.

Great minds think alike on both ownership and theory. I like the game, but not enough to really take the time to finish it (and yet I went on a picture-collecting binge for it anyway).

[identity profile] chibimazoku.livejournal.com 2008-04-14 03:45 am (UTC)(link)
Please come play with us! We're super excited about the game and anyone who'd like to play with us.

And ignore the trolls; we've been catching them quickly.

[identity profile] vulchu.livejournal.com 2008-04-14 03:56 am (UTC)(link)
CFUD crew is nice people! Rly! :o

Though I haven't been following much of anything in either dressing rooms because. Senior Thesis > RP time. orz

[identity profile] iolites.livejournal.com 2008-04-14 04:02 am (UTC)(link)
I didn't realize things were that bad over there. To completely disregard the fact that yeah, the n-word is racist (even if people use it now as a friendly greeting. IF YOU'RE WHITE, DON'T SAY IT.) is just ignorant and stupid. "Gangsta" can probably be pulled off by someone without racial slurs and still be interesting. Oi.

I was kinda put off by the fact that (at least, in Abyss' case) so many of the offshoots were the same handful of people. A lot of it looked bad. @_@ I'm all for good crack and AUs (lord knows I have a few myself), but the dressing room comms seem to take that to a new level.

[identity profile] kay-willow.livejournal.com 2008-04-14 04:28 am (UTC)(link)
lol, yes, I saw the "Spanish" troll and I see that there's a Natalia troll lurking (although I don't think she's tried to post yet? I think I know who that is)

I totally am nervous and want more posts before I jump in, but I'd like to drag Lucia or a Peony out there, or one of those others I mentioned. sdflkjsdv

[identity profile] kay-willow.livejournal.com 2008-04-14 04:37 am (UTC)(link)
They're just cliquey. D: I was really nervous for a bit because all the characters who joined at first were CFUD and "knew" each other regardless of canon and I was like, guh, this is just a wacky extension of CFUD, But things cleared up, and strangers/non-CFUD versions joined and they were also well-received.

*pompoms you and all your wooork*

[identity profile] schwann.livejournal.com 2008-04-14 04:44 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I'm hoping it will settle quickly. I don't want to be dragged into anything or be forced to really choose a side, as that would suck. And [livejournal.com profile] dressing_gummi has such a cute name... I am drawn to cute things, much like Tear. Not gooood.

POOR PEONY. I would feel a little cheated if tons of other people had a double and I didn't. I imagine Peony, of all characters, would especially feel a little cheated, if only because he would be super curious as to what could possibly be different about his alternate version. I'll definitely try and think of something, or a few things, and go from there! And advertising again is always a very good idea. People may have missed it the first time the ad went around.

It is! And the server I'm on is x100, which makes things... A whole lot more fun. I get to try out a lot of the different jobs and aren't forced to totally grind to get to certain points. I'm sure one day I'll drift to a server that makes me work a little harder, but this is a lot of fun for now. Female Peony is just fun to play, for some reason. I took her down the path to become a Monk, which totally fits if you think about Peony and what he can do. ...I-I don't think it's fail. Um. THAT MAY JUST BE ME, THOUGH.

[identity profile] vulchu.livejournal.com 2008-04-14 05:49 am (UTC)(link)
I think the cliquey is just kind of an impression that tends to come with the group being from such a huge RP. You can't get to know everyone so as a result you tend to have people you associate with, but that doesn't mean you're loathe to meet new people.

BUT YEAH. You should hop in! So that when I'm not being assraped by school you can meet my Guy. :D
ext_52683: (Default)

[identity profile] kay-willow.livejournal.com 2008-04-14 06:06 am (UTC)(link)
♥ I'll look forward to your freedom. Everyone I currently play is interested in meeting Guy(s)! orz

I think part of what makes me so neurotic is the vague impression that CFUD sort of generates this club setting for people -- they all hang out in chatrooms together and have constant crack and they share opinions on everything, and in my deviant brain this warps into The CFUD Hive Mind vs . This paranoia may just be because I am secretly in fact an elitist h0r and would do it in their place. *woe*

[identity profile] vulchu.livejournal.com 2008-04-14 06:21 am (UTC)(link)
Well he's just such a popular guy, who can blame them.

And you're not entirely wrong about CFUD. I mean. We do hang out in chatrooms together and have constant crack. But we don't all agree on everything like we're THE BORG or something. That's what our obsession with concrit is for and stuff like that.
ext_52683: (Default)

[identity profile] kay-willow.livejournal.com 2008-04-14 06:33 am (UTC)(link)
O, okay. D: At the least, my experience with CFUD was that in general, the people who were in your canon group were always excited to get new people, and that it was the rest of the faceless masses that were like, "I don't know the canon or the person being apped, but I didn't think you were funny enough so I voted you down." XD So thinking of it that way, with the really difficult part in convincing the uninvested people, and the actual people you'd be playing with were happy to see you, it's not nearly as intimidating.
ext_52683: (Default)

[identity profile] kay-willow.livejournal.com 2008-04-14 06:59 am (UTC)(link)
Peony's first visitor encounter was with Dr. Balfour, the happy AU version of Jade who wants to replace human life with replicas (replica!Nephry won't be afraid of him :D ) (replica!Saphir will know better than to try and touch him :D ), and so he's a little wary about what can go wrong in AU versions of himself, but he'd be such a happy dork to actually meet himself that he'd promptly forget all about that. XD

It does have a cute name, and the skit it's evidently named after is so cute. XD Jade kills me and poor Reid and Veigue and Luke and wants to kill Zelos, you should watch it when you have the chance. It's in two parts, about fourteen minutes total.

[identity profile] vulchu.livejournal.com 2008-04-14 07:10 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, the app process can kinda give off the wrong impression of what the game is like. Once people are voted in, everyone's generally really excited about seeing new players/characters in the game. And it's great because if people don't know your canon, you can lure them in by showing them how awesome your character is in threads, and if they do they're generally pretty excited to see you play.

[identity profile] chibimazoku.livejournal.com 2008-04-14 12:53 pm (UTC)(link)
Loooooord, if that was true about apps I'd never get voted in. Most of my canons only two or three people know about beforehand.

But, yeah, voting can be scary. However, it's not like... the be-all, end-all of scariness in RPing, trust me. >D

[identity profile] hauntedreality.livejournal.com 2008-04-14 01:32 pm (UTC)(link)
I wonder if the KKM one is still going. Funny how comms can pop up, grow rapidly, and then mostly disappear.

I haven't tried them. I don't want to be kicked out as an elitist h0r! Heh. *hugs*

[identity profile] kay-willow.livejournal.com 2008-04-14 05:09 pm (UTC)(link)
WARNING WARNING MY BITTER DEAD AHEAD

Well, that was what I experienced when I was narrowly voted out. The people who knew my canon were all very pleased, and the other people who played in my canon were happy to play IC with anonme in the comments. But the rest of CFUD seemed to think that uneducated, uninformed opinions were better than no opinions at all. :D And that's how CFUD voted George Bush into office. gg

Seriously, it's great that it wasn't like that for you, but people keep telling me CFUD's app system doesn't do what I actually went there and experienced firsthand to be. XD I know my experience doesn't make a rule, but it's not like I'm just going to go, "Oh, well, I must not have had that happen to me!" and go merrily skipping on my way.

Frankly, while it makes a grand spectacle, I don't like that style of application. We had a similar system in RR, where the other players decided instead of the mods, and it was incredibly frustrating. I saw the exact same thing happen there -- where good, solid characterizations were voted down because they weren't "funny" enough. This happened to me by a slim margin at CFUD, and to other friends of mine, while we watched much less IC apps get approved because their creators already play a dozen other CFUD characters and they either already have a correct style or everyone knew it was them.

I'd never have gotten into RR if I'd submitted Axel's app to the same group of people I submitted Lexaeus apps to (Tor was the only person who judged Axel) and I've never seen an Axel as good as I was, which sounds really egotistical but it's true (although hey, I may just have overlooked someone really awesome). But is it really so wrong to play a straight man like a straight man? Do I have to invent something totally wacky to put into Lexaeus's app so that people will find him amusing? No, I'm going to go with "CFUD cliques are eager to welcome new people; the application process is not."

[identity profile] ladycrysiana.livejournal.com 2008-04-14 08:10 pm (UTC)(link)
Re: CFUD, I ran into the same thing with apping Watanuki; the general reaction was that people liked the other Watanuki app better because it was so funny that he was fussing over getting his check from Yuuko (????). Which I didn't find funny anyway, but it also showed a basic lack of understanding of the canon, or at least a total disregard of it.

[identity profile] chibimazoku.livejournal.com 2008-04-14 09:06 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, keep in mind that also not everyone knows the canon. Also, in dup or triple batches, like Watanuki was, it is true that existing players tend to win: NOT because people know who they are and are biased, but because they have more apping experience and a better idea of what voters are expecting from an app's content and format. They're also more likely to have had betas.

[identity profile] chibimazoku.livejournal.com 2008-04-14 09:15 pm (UTC)(link)
I am honestly and truly sorry that your apping experience has left you with such a cynical view of CFUD's apping process. I think to a certain extent, you do hit on some very real problems with the system, but really, with a game as big as CFUD there's never going to be a single process that makes everyone happy. Which. Really sucks, unfortunately.

It is true that there's a certain style people are expecting from an app. The biggest reason is that it's easier to judge an app when you don't know the canon and are going through 50+ apps in four or so days if you can go down the checklist of:

1) Is it funny? (CFUD is a crack RP, despite the drama that does go down. You might be the funniest person in the world and we just... wouldn't know it if you don't put any effort into jokes. Honestly, a most people are aware of the fact that what's funny is going to strike different people differently, and vote more on "did they make an attempt to be funny within IC constraints?" It's hard to make certain character types funny, too, but a new player managed to get Serph from DDS in on their first try, so it's definitely possible.)

2) Is it IC? (This is a tough one, because everyone has different ideas of what is IC or not. Most people probably don't know a given canon. Therefore, "Is it IC" becomes "does it match up with what was given in the canon section?" So if your canon section doesn't present your character in the same light as an app, people are probably going to vote it out or abstain.)

I... don't think "knowing who's apping" is as big of a deal as you make it out to be. I've apped sixteen times and gotten in thirteen of them. Most voters didn't know who I was each time, and I'd be very disappointed if people voted me in just because they knew it was me. The fact is, existing players are just generally better at the CFUD apping style due to practice, and they feel more comfortable asking for betas. To combat this, we have beta posts in CFO where people can anonymously ask for betas. This way, new players can benefit from the knowledge existing players already have.

And, hey, it may just be that CFUD isn't your style of RPing. That's totally cool, too. But I really don't think we're as unfair as you make us out to be.

[identity profile] green-and-warty.livejournal.com 2008-04-15 12:03 am (UTC)(link)
I've never joined a dressing room RP because I - because I'm extremely neurotic and tend to hate myself a little xD; and immediately think I'm terrible when faaaaaced with another person who plays mah dood.

BUT UHHHH, I've always thought ToL's art style was cool >>;

[identity profile] meimi.livejournal.com 2008-04-17 11:01 am (UTC)(link)
Are you the Kay Willow who wrote a couple of Clamp Campus Detective fics back in the day? I saw your name in passing during the stupid dressing room wank and it rang a bell.

As for Legendia, it's not a bad game really, but it doesn't hold up when put beside Abyss or even Symphonia. It seems kinda half done when you do that. =\
ext_52683: (Default)

[identity profile] kay-willow.livejournal.com 2008-04-17 05:05 pm (UTC)(link)
That's me. ♥ I remember having a lot of fun writing those fics, I still have vivid memories of my OCs and my ships from waybackwhen.

I'm sorry if you encountered my name in a negative context, I'm normally very nice. X3 The whole Dressing room wank is retaaahded, but I'm glad if something good came out of it!

Legendia seems like a decent game, and I like some of what I know about the main characters, but I just -- I just can't get over how much I hate the character designs. XD Sob.

[identity profile] ladycrysiana.livejournal.com 2008-04-17 08:43 pm (UTC)(link)
Belatedy:

Yes, and I don't have a problem if people found the other one funnier, I just have a problem when people say, "I don't know this canon, but I think this person is more IC." FWIW I also had it betaed by a couple people I knew who were in CFUD at the time. I've been a member of CFUD myself (as the Prince from Katamari Damacy), though that was a while ago, since the posting rate was too fast to be enjoyable for me.

[identity profile] meimi.livejournal.com 2008-04-18 12:12 am (UTC)(link)
Small world syndrome then~ I remember vividly checking my email for your updates on the CFFML. LOL! They were really entertaining fics.

Oh, don't worry about it. I recognized one of the other people as a rabid wanker and was pretty freaking surprised at [livejournal.com profile] chibimazoku's patience. I don't think I could have managed not blowing up at that crap.

It is a decent play, though there were a few instances where I went "Bzuhwhat?" at the plot. LOL. I was very disappointed at the lack of voice acting in the latter half of the game too. =| But I guess that's what we get when stuff gets rushed.

Would you mind terribly if I friended you? It's pretty awesome running into somebody from the old days who's still having fun in similar fandoms and hasn't completely lost their mind XD.
ext_52683: (Default)

Belated lol?

[identity profile] kay-willow.livejournal.com 2008-04-19 07:42 am (UTC)(link)
Back in those days I could still write something without an epic purpose. XD I remember exactly when I lost that ability. So yeah, they were just pure exercises in fun and characterization. Saaad.

Ahaha, I think Chibi dealt with the situation with phenomenal good grace. XD I'm glad other people can see that too. And of course you can friend me, I'm happy to make new acquaintances. ♥

Re: Belated lol?

[identity profile] meimi.livejournal.com 2008-04-19 10:04 am (UTC)(link)
XD I don't think I've ever quite managed to write something that wasn't epicly stupid... Unless you count the smut, and then it's just bad. LOL.

Well, some of the FW people expressed surprise at her patience, but it's always a mixed bag there. *shrugs* Personally, I probably would have been frothing if people had brought crap like that to my journal.

Thanks! ♥
