Well, I haven't bought into any of the "omg I hate the oppressive LJ regime and I'm fleeing to FailJournal" stuff so far, because I am largely sedentary and inertia keeps me in one place; also, no other journal setup has communities like LJ does. But now that LJ has laid off like a quarter of its staff, it seemed like a good time to back up and be prepared to be flexible.

I also have a Journalfen account somewhere, but I don't even remember what it is. Despite some failure, Inksome is much more palatable to me than any of the other LJ alternatives I've seen.

Anyone interested in friending either, feel free. (Comment to tell me who you are!) Both are empty until I get the backup thing going.

Anyone who has reservations about Inksome because they love LJ Login, it has been modified by the talented libekory, with help from the original creator, to do Inksome. Clicky.

I don't I'd ever migrate to another blogger. I don't actually care about blogging, I'm also here for the community. But if the comms and the people move, well so will I.

I know how you feel. I've been pretty neutral in regards to the evil LJ regime too. I really love LJ comms and the fact that all my friends are here. But I'll give inksome (I wasn't even aware of it) and others the once over. Best to prepare for the worse.

IDGI, what's going on with LJ? Also, got an extra Inksome code? I just sort of want to have one, too, since more than one person on my flist has one.

Google for LJ Sec or LJ Archive. It'll backup your entries and comments, and move your entries onto a new journal if you want. I downloaded LJ Migrate, but it wants me to download Python... I don't know if the others do too.

Inksome is nice because it's run by a fan, for fans. Basic accounts have 150 icons etc. He's just one guy so far, and Inksome is still a teensy bit buggy (e.g. 60% of the LJ layouts are just copy-pasted and don't work for Inksome, so it registers as being broken, including the default layout!) but it's been great for my RP, so. XD

Today SUP fired a dozen people from LJ with no severance pay and little warning (they have until Friday). It's gross, and it's got people worried that LJ is in dangerous waters. So just in case, backups and safe havens are the way to go.

I've been out of work since September, but my dad is helping me with crap. Luckily, once he files the taxes, which should be soon, I'll be rolling in it. Except not really, but I will have some extra. I'm going to pay him back first because I don't really like being in debt to someone blah.
