Gameblogging: FFXIII-2

I am installing the new OS update now so that I can play this game. We have had some serious discussion about whether or not the second chick in the logo is Noel, assuming the first one is Lightning. Upon seeing the big promotional screen, I have concluded it is the chick/dude Serah and Noel appear to be facing off with.

After some consideration, I decided to just comment attack myself. So I will be making comments to this post with new thoughts / ideas / observations / what have you. Feel free to comment to my comments. We can get all meta up in here. I don't know.


The comments will contain some spoilers, but please do not add spoilers of your own. I like to find things out as I play! I literally did not even know what the logo represented until I saw that screen.

ETA: Spoiler alert: There are no spoilers. I don't actually get to play the game. But there is a lot of cursing.

Lightning's hair looks really pretty in this opening video.

Which is awesome, because it looked really crappy for most of FFXIII.

I am now installing a ~theme~ I can get by defeating FFXIII. The DLC link is grayed out, which mildly dismays me. How do I get my Serah costume? I will find it.

Speaking of not derivative, Noel falling is very reminiscent of Sora falling in opening videos of KH.

It's taking so long my PS3 controller keeps getting bored and turning itself off.

I forgot that PSN content can be fucking stupid.

My PS3 locked up. This is amazing.

Wow, I can't reset it with the controller, and Li wasn't able to get it to reset by holding the power button down. She had to unplug the PS3 and then plug it back in again.

And now the PS3 is whining about how it didn't turn off properly and it's making me check the system for errors.

It wasn't downloading the system update it said it had to update again, it just kept adding more and more time ad infinitum

So I disabled the internet and started it again

and it worked without any problem

LOL. As much as that scene broke my heart in the game, it's always hilarious when someone makes commentary about it in another game. I'm an awful person.

The sad thing is that I've had this trouble with it before.

So the internet told me I had to update the patch again to get the DLC, and I updated it, and this time it went well.

Then I started up the game and the DLC content link was available. And when I went in it, it simultaneously told me that I had been disconnected from the PSN, and that I had to be signed into the PSN to continue.

So I log out and sign into the PSN. It takes two tries. Then I go back into the game.

And it tells me that I don't have any DLC.

So I log out and sign onto the PSN. And then it disconnects me.

And I log out and sign onto the PSN again. And it disconnects me again.

I restart my PS3. I sign onto the PSN. I download the DLC again. I log onto the game.

The game says I have no DLC available.

ARRRRRGH.

That's because it's not searching for DLC you've downloaded, it's searching for DLC that are available. Since none have been released yet, there's nothing there.

You should get Serah's costume as soon as you control her. I didn't know I had Omega until I went to the coliseum and saw him selectable.

I saw several accounts on the internet that the moment you start up the game, before even starting a new game, you should be able to go into DLC, select Outfits, and select to put Serah in the Summoner's Garb. I did not read any accounts saying you have to start playing the game and she just magically appears in a costume that it claims you don't have, or that you have to wait some indeterminate amount of time for content that isn't available yet. (These two claims seem to be contradictory, by the way?? Either it's released and you get it, or it's not released and you don't get it.)

I'm not sure whether to blame S-E for shitty implementation of their DLC, Gamestop for shitty explanation of the DLC, or Sony for their incredibly shitty DLC network. But right now I think it's all three.

Holy shit. I just now looked at my flist on DW (instead of commenting in emails) and damnnnnnnnnnnnnn. :| I haven't seen a PS3 be this much of an asshole to somebody in a long time. My sympathies, you have them in spades.

I think our PS3 has some sort of voodoo curse on it, because getting DLC on it has always been akin to punching yourself in the face repeatedly for about two hours before you give up.

I'll give it another try and see if it's feeling more cooperative when I get home, but if it's not, seriously, I am going to bury this game in the backyard until April. I am not playing without that DLC now. Do you hear me, Sony/Square-Enix/Gamestop?

What I meant was that the DLC thing actually checks the PSN store for DLC that is available, and since none of it officially is yet, it's not there when it checks. Sorry I didn't clarify that, I hurriedly typed that up this morning before I went to work.

In any case, I checked the DLC thing and saw nothing, and when I checked the coliseum for Omega, he was there. I figured that something similar would work for you. In the case of the outfit, there's an Outfits panel in the game's HUD that you have access to as soon as you control Serah, so if it's not there, then yeah, there's a problem.
