My respect for Hermes has grown. I really like how tempted he is to go back to the circle just to fit in and not be alone, but he doesn't because he knows something is wrong with the circle and what it could do to you. He keeps his sadness over his wife because it's real and he deals with it. The circle is pretty much a way to not deal with things.
Rather ironic by not dealing with things got them killed still. >_>
It makes Judith's later stance in dealing with the blastia all the more poignant after what she went through with the circle.
(I hope Baul's connection and her connection with the circle come into conflict, considering how different they are.)
