Page 28: Seriously though, I think Kanda here is saying, "Back the fuck off. If anyone is going to decide if Walker needs to die or if he should live, it's going to be me. And I will handle it. We don't need minions here." He's telling Link he's not loyal enough to Allen because of his conflicting loyalties to Leverrier, and Allen doesn't need him. Kanda is his new stalker now!

Okay, so what I got out of this chapter is: Link now has magical healing powers and that sucks, he doesn't remember Apocryphos so that sucks, he's supposed to help the Fourteenth and screw Allen, metaphorically, which sucks. He's very torn about all of this, because somehow Leverrier's maniacal cackling about how he wants to put Neah in a cage and use him for the good of all mankind didn't reassure him; and he is vaguely surprised to find Kanda firmly ensconced in Allen's corner, because he doesn't know that "Everyone loves Allen" is one of the laws of D. Gray-man physics. Meanwhile, AHHHHH ARE WE GOING TO GET BB WALKER TWINS AHHHHH PLEASE MAKE IT SO
Tales of Graces made me want bb everyone ever forever, and even though it tried its damnedest to ruin that later, they failed. The power of adorable bbs is too strong.

And yesss, I love that Link's now even further conflicted in his duty re: Allen. Though in a way, this makes things a little easier for him. He's not accountable to anyone but Leverrier, and Leverrier doesn't have to know what's going on (for now, anyway).
I agree with your interpretation of Kanda's words. After all this work, I don't think Kanda's jonesing to kill Allen unless he has to.

I think it's really interesting where Kanda's character has gone: how he took this hard left turn into protective bruiser and will insist on being Allen's judge, jury, and executioner if it comes to that.

First off I am really walking in circles on what Link's primary objective at the moment is. There's so much going on for him between a Superior he's been loyal too for most of his life throwing curve balls at him to Allen and the fourteenth and finally Tevak and the others. Going by the end of the chapter he seems to be leaning towards Allen, if only because he wants to see what consequences Allen's actions will bring about. From there Link might use that as a way to finally decide what he might think/do in terms of everything he's conflicted about.
I'm pretty sure right now Link's development is going to be on what world view he wants to adopt more: Leverrier or Allen's in terms of walking the Order's path or making a new one that's his. If that is the case then it's good to see him move around more now that he has the room for it. Link has been pretty passive so far about this kind of thing when it's obvious he's been thinking more about the grey area of his life that, until Allen, he's most likely ignored.
It will probably tie into the thirds with Link wanting to hope it's possible to save them (and probably hoping Allen can beat the odds with the 14th).
On to the flashback scene. Mana was a pretty cute kid and I loved that we got a glimpse of their, I'm assuming, mother. I'm curious if we'll get a good glimpse of Neah and Mana's nature. I've been hearing a theory recently that Mana could have gotten Neah's personality quirks after his death like how Allen developed Mana's personality after his death. If so, mind screw of Allen copying Neah instead of Mana all these years. @_@ I'm wondering if this will happen now because this is DGM and DGM lives on mind screws, Allen love, and loving to mind screw Allen. Yeesh.
All in all pretty good chapter. I'm glad we won't have to wait another two months for the next.

I really like how Kanda is turning out. It's something I can respect about his character within a story where the unexpected has happened and so he also behaved in a way most, both readers and characters, didn't really expect. It wasn't even forced for me, he had his reasons that were rational to him and the story. Now he's helping to drive the plot even when a lot of fans thought the plot was done with him. It's realy nice to see that Hoshino cares a lot about these characters to let them grow like this.

I don't know about that theory -- it doesn't jive with the impression I've gotten of their respective personalities from what little we've seen of them. It would definitely be layer upon layer of mindscrew, though. XDDD

I think I heard from a interview Hoshi originally was going to have all the Thirds die in the last Arc but her editor made her keep some of them around longer. So 50/50. At least on dying as themselves. It's kind of hard to imagine them being completely saved. But who knows in a tragedy like this where being saved can have multiple meanings. It's a development Hoshi said she would continue for Link (if my memory is right).
I don't want to believe it either for reasons similiar. But I also know I can't put anything above Hoshi so I'm mentally preparing myself just in case. XP

It's pretty interesting how Kanda has essentially decided to swear himself to Allen's life, be it to guard or end it, as long as this 14th thing is around. It adds a lot of depth to him and how human he is. I'm really curious how his pov's will continue in regards to the human or Noah aspects. I have a feeling if it was just Allen or Johnny we'd end up missing a lot of things (like Link right away). Kanda's in the position to not steal from Allen's side due to his big plot being done but his character is still adding to the story and furthering certain angles to appear.
