Leitmotifs of the year: 1) Relationships with a give and take, 2) Screw y'all I'm writing this pairing even if nobody likes it but me.
Favorites of the batch: "Inquisition" so hard because hngh I can't get enough of Hanekoma and Josh even though I'm the only person in that tiny fandom who ever thought about that, and it touches on a lot of things about them that I love. "Instructions in Thoughtful Gift-Giving" because omg so fluffy and it all came together just right.
Best of the batch: "Best" is so subjective... I'm proud of both of the above, of course! I'm also proud of "The Determined" because it is a fitting story to accompany "Winter's Service", full of plot and intrigue and porn that means something in terms of the story, and I still love the Jotunheim I created there.
Most underappreciated: "Inquisition", because tiny fandom, tiny pairing. I actually thought "The Determined" was more underappreciated than it is. The perks of a big fandom, anything can get attention!
Favorite first lines:
"I worry that perhaps I was unapproachable, as a Composer," Joshua said, tapping fingers to his lips as he paced. - Inquisition
Loki waited until it was perfectly dark, until the world was silent except for the wind whipping outside their simple two-story dwelling, until there was no movement or sound inside the little upstairs room where they slept. - The Determined
Two years was a minuscule fraction of the time Loki had been alive, a blink of an eye, so it was a dismal knowledge indeed that two years ago he would have looked at the position he was in now, and chosen death before he allowed himself to sink so low. - In A King's Name
There was no legitimate reason not to have breakfast. - The Reminder (Because this is a true statement.)
Most fun to write: Maybe "Instructions in Thoughtful Gift-Giving" -- it carried me along. It was perfect, and came together from beginning to end.
Sexiest fic: "Beastly Behavior". It's shameless warm playful wild porn and I think it works.
Holy crap that's wrong even for you: Yeah, my unabashed incest fics. "What We Speak Not Of" especially, but also "Inappropriate". Not only is Loki/his adopted family somewhat squirrelly in OU, the squirrelliness is played with shamelessly to the point of straight-up creepering in those fics.
Fic that shifted my own perceptions of the characters: "Waxing and Waning" really helped me solidify my Saix thoughts, which were somewhat jumbled between KH2 and Days and KH3D
Something you never predicted writing in January: lol, Kingdom Hearts fic again. I really thought I was done obsessing about that and could just enjoy it as a thing whenever it came back into my life briefly with a new game.
Hardest fic to write: I seem to recall being stuck on "The Reminder" for a long time because it felt a little awkward to me. It was hard to jump into the middle of a random pairing of people who have never met before and attempt to make it something significant and show how it works. I think it turned out okay, though
Biggest disappointment: "The Old Flame". Yeah, got bummed out, never posting the rest of that.
Biggest surprise: Kingdom Hearts again... But probably also that toward the tail end of the year people suddenly cared about Thor/Sif. I'm really not sure where it came from, but I'm glad more people started enjoying those fics that I half-wrote out of stubbornness because nobody else cared for my OTP.
Most telling fic: "The Determined" has so much of my favorite stuff and opinions in it, probably that.
What's next?: More Kingdom Hearts and hopefully more The World Ends With You, but I'm only poking at writing right now infrequently, so I have no major projects underway.
