I'd prefer Sam to Jason, but I find I'm not really thrilled about either of them... Maybe if they weren't "playing their characters". I like Jessica but I doubt they'll go in that direction. I would welcome John back since his show doesn't get on nearly often enough!
I've also heard some people suggesting Brian Williams should take over. I would honestly be behind that.
But Jon his show is so important to my emotional wellbeing living on this awful planet
No! Why shouldn't I be able to steal your mourning and use it because I think it's trendy?! If it's the cool thing to do, I want to do it too. I apologize, I am genuinely sorry for your loss.
It is possible, and he did seem to imply that someone would, but... who could do it like he does it? Sam Bee? Jason Jones? Meh. I'd totally watch Jessica Williams but I think it's unlikely for obvious reasons.
I would watch that. I am also in support of Brian Williams, now that he's jobless and sad, since he has a long history of playing around with 30 Rock and TDS and having a great sense of humor, and obviously he's excellent at fake news.
I like him a lot too. :( But there's been a scandal.
My understanding is that 12 years ago he was doing a report in Iraq and they were being fired at and the helicopter in front of his got hit. At first he reported it that way, but 12 years later when he talked about this story he started saying that his helicopter was the one that got hit. So recently the pilots came forward and said he was a liar, and now there's a media frenzy investigating whether or not he's lied about a whole bunch of other things, and whether or not anyone can ever trust him as a newscaster again, and he's been suspended from the news show he hosted for 6 months.
It seems like a lot of fuss over a pretty standard memory lapse / war story exaggeration, given the amount of time that's passed. I think the media has blown it out of proportion and I hope he can do something awesome soon.
I heard someone float the idea of asking Tina Fey to take over, which would be spectacular. My first thought though was to wonder if any of the former correspondants(like Helms or Cordry) would be willing to come back.
Regardless of who they get, I think Jon will hand pick his successor. He knows how important the show is, and I don't think he'd leave Larry high and dry right after the latter just started his new show. Especially not since Stewart's production company makes it.
Tina Fey has so many things going for her right now -- she has like three TV shows or something crazy like that. I would definitely love her in the role but I don't know if it's feasible... I did hear someone suggest Amy Poehler and since Parks & Rec is ending maybe that could happen?
I wouldn't mind if some of the alumni cast came back, there was a lot of great talent that outgrew correspondent roles. I definitely think that Jon is going to make sure the show continues on a good path, I heard that he might still be staying on as the immediate producer.
But when I try to imagine anyone doing as great a job as Jon, I just... can't. I've been watching Stewart and Colbert for so long!

Though if Samantha Bee took over the helm, my heart could go on.
