A bullet won't stop Id, but it can certainly stop Fei
If I were to write a Xenogears fanfic, which, mind you, I am not going to... I think this would be the idea. It would be a collection of short developmental scenes, like my Suikoden fanfic, Fragments of Enlightenment.
I would write one with Fei, locked in a room, meditating. The walls are very thick and strong. The door is heavily reinforced. Fei is working on reaching out to Id, and assimilating him. No more dangerous sub-personalities seeking to undermine his existence and destroy his friends, family, and/or major countries.
Billy is also in this room, with a gun.
Fei thanks him, in the first small scene, for being here. He knows that not a lot of people were jumping at the chance to A) shoot one of their good friends in the head, or B) be locked in a room with Id. Billy shrugs. He couldn't let Fei do it, worrying that if he lost, his loved ones -- everyone -- might pay the price. This way, at least, he gets to have the peace of knowing that failure won't be the end of everything.
Another scene, later. Occasionally now visible struggles break out, where Fei has to wrestle himself to stay still, or clutches at his head and has to drive back Id. During these visible battles Billy spends the whole time on his feet, Fei sighted in his crosshairs, but every time when he calls out it's Fei who answers. Fei can't sleep, of course. In this scene he wants to know what time it is and Billy tells him it doesn't matter. Don't you have a watch or something? Don't you know what time it is? Well, Billy does know what time it is. But it doesn't matter. He's not sharing the information.
Fei gets irritated. It's just the TIME. You can tell him the TIME. It's not exactly going to make or break this internal battle. Billy is aware of that also, but he's still not telling. And Fei lunges to his feet and snap, Billy has the gun trained on him, and they both freeze like that, and then Fei wrestles himself back to his meditative position.
Another scene, later. The struggles are getting more frequent now, but Fei seems more at ease in the quiet moments. "How's it going?" Billy asks, and Fei says, "I remember now." He's starting to gain a lot of the memory of what happened while he was with Id. He feels like he owes a lot of people apologies. Billy argues against the guilt, claiming that he's done a great deal of good also, and sincerely regrets what he's done. If there are those who still haven't forgiven him, well, that's their sin, now. (This is almost more Jewish than Christian. WHATEVER.)
Another scene, later. Fei has realized now that Billy was trying to keep him from worrying about how long it's been by refusing to tell him the time. Thinking about how neither of them have slept, or eaten; thinking about how the others might be worrying; thinking about how long the battle is taking, etc.
This particular scene would end with Fei saying something that sounded suspiciously like Id. Billy asks again how he's feeling, and Fei thinks about it a bit and just says, "Dangerous."
It needs more scenes than those, not to mention an ending.
But if I were to write a Xenogears fanfic, that would totally be it.
I like Elly and Fei a lot more in this play-through than the first time I played the game. I just really hate Vierge, I've decided. Nifty Gear as far as actual battle goes. But it offends all my senses.
I will recruit Rico, someday when I have a breather from WoW.
