Updates on today and video games

Today it is: Snowing in Boston. ...sigh.

Today in the subway: A man is playing a third-grader's plastic recorder, very badly, in an attempt to make people give him money. I can only assume he wants them to pay him to move away. Where do you even get a plastic recorder outside of an elementary school? Is it even possible to play one of those well?

Today in the news: There was a full-page advertisement proclaiming that prayer had saved Jill Carroll and we are all invited to a prayer meeting at [insert church here]. I just find that depressing.

Today my co-worker: IS AT WORK ON A WEDNESDAY AGAIN. STOP IT. THIS IS MY TIME OFF FROM YOUR INCOMPETENCE. Also, "Do you think you could get these done by the end of today? Because otherwise I think that maybe we don't need them," is not how you give an ultimatum to the people who had a CD-ROM that you burned for them and LOST IT within TWO DAYS and THEN didn't even print your first batch of invitations correctly.

Kingdom Hearts is: light totally gay love. The first four or so hours of this game were pretty painful -- extremely linear, extremely uninformative, virtually no action. But they did an excellent job of setting the mood. I just wish it hadn't taken so long to get past the damn prologue. I was forced to break for the night at Mulanworld.

Thus far I would like to observe that I feel terribly bad for Axel and Roxas for different reasons, and Axel totally ♥ Roxas. Leon and Aerith are totally married, I don't care what the slashfen say. I want to stab Aerith's new voice actress in the FACE. (Honey, maybe if you breathed, you could speak above a whisper.)

I loved the detail about Sora growing a few inches, and how his clothes obviously didn't fit him thereafter, but he is the same exact size proportional to everyone else. If you shrunk him "a few inches", he wouldn't be able to see above Leon's belt. Not that this would necessarily be a bad thing, except that Leon is married.

Suikoden V is: omg such awesome. I fangirl all the little details, all the elaborate plots, all the snarky and the clever that goes flying around here. My strategist is evil and my sidekicks are great. The plot is just fantastic, but it would take way too long to explain why.

I named the main character after [livejournal.com profile] alarielle's OOC Shinou, because I thought it would be fun. (Come on, the Sun Rune!) Now the main character is irretrievably Aki-like in personality in my head. I can't wait until he becomes immortal and freakishly powerful and the Sun Rune casts a shadow on his soul. Irony.

I would be playing it instead of KH2, but the sheer power of people pressing in on all sides who want to babble about KH2 is making it difficult. I'll have to play Sora until I can indulge them, and only dabble with Not!Aki until then.

T_T Indeed. Where did Mandy Moore go? Can't believe we're stuck with whisper-cunt (as I've been finding her called) for the Advent Children dub as well.

Are you serious, tell me that's a lie. ;__; She's SO BAD. I can walk down any street in Boston and get at least four women who could do a better script-reading.

I'm told that Mandy Moore refuses to work with Disney anymore, which would explain it.

Yep, sure enough, Mena Suvari credited for the dub of Advent Children as well.

One of my surprises upon becoming a JET is that Japanese elementary school children obsessively play the recorder. As in, at my schools kids walk down the hallways during break, tooting away at whatever new song they've learned, most of which end up sounding like "Jimmy Crack Corn" despite their best efforts. They get trained in recorder for like 4-5 years, sometimes continuing on into junior high, and have to play songs with their whole grade at all school events. They actually get pretty good by 6th grade, although I think recorders in general, like kazoos, don't really make you think "good music" with that tooty sound. (..tooty is a good word.)

"Tooty" is an awesome word.

I'd forgotten how popular those things are in Japan. XD Everything Japanese schoolchildren do is adorable. But recorders inevitably sound screechy and painful, and this guy, he had clearly not had six years of recorder training.

Your co-worker sounds like a real winner, where 'winner' is defined as 'winner of the prize for biggest idiot'. And yes, you can get those plastic recorders at music stores.

What're they, like $1.50? Do they come in six-packs? X3
