Oh god make this painkiller work

I'm not in pain yet!

I was freaking out before I became very dispassionate and eventually unconscious and woke up a minute later to find the surgery done. No complications yay.

I am now finding that, inconveniently, I am continually leaking blood from my mouth and cannot feel my lower lip or chin. In fact, my lower lip does not feel like it is related to the rest of my body. It keeps getting in the way and not responding when I poke it. When I was first feeling out my face, before I found a mirror, I thought it was gauze hanging out of my mouth.

Swallowing has become a very unfortunate experience that I cannot avoid, because my options are A) drooling blood, B) drowning on blood, C) spitting up my limited supply of gauze, or D) swallowing blood. It doesn't taste good. I'm not cut out to be a vampire, I think.

I'm beginning to regain feeling in my tongue. This is the prelude to pain.

Not sleepy, which is good, because I would... wind up with option B there, I think.

Tip: if you run out of painkillers - and you probably will - Aleve works better than everything else OTC (I actually was in little enough pain after my root canal that I only needed the Aleve, and I couldn't use the Vicodin they gave me anyway because I had to watch the child). Something about the formulation of Aleve makes it work better for dental pain, according to the pharmacist I talked to.

You survived!!!! **huggles tight**

wow, you're my hero now. Doesn't make me any less terrified of the tooth-pulling, but still. <3

Yay!

Now let me tell you my story, after hearing me say "it didn't hurt."

I almost didn't get my wisdom teeth removed. You know why? I threw uncontrollable hysterics. I screamed, I sobbed, I begged. I was trembling so hard that after they finally got the IV into my arm, the vein broke, and they had to put it in my hand instead. I had a monster bruise in my arm that I paraded around rather proudly after the fact.

I love novacaine, it's fun, and everything will tingle when the feeling comes back. I love that, too.

You did better than me chick, congrats on surviving!

And I second the Aleve if you need it, you may not.

Yay! You're okay! *glompsnugglelove* ^_____^

Yeah, this is the part that is gross and unpleasant and uncomfortable. Just...be careful not to fall asleep and...drown. XDD

Also, ice packs are your friend. They will keep you from turning into a deranged-looking chipmunk like I did. >>

*fluffs you and brings you soup and shiny things to keep you occupied*

I thought I was going to be in a lot of pain too, but the dumb docs only gave me motrin 800's. I took one of those when I got home, slept for four more hours, woke up, and was in no pain. When I first got home, I tried smoking a cigarette, but like you, my lip didn't feel like it was mine. Every time I went to put something in my mouth, I had to feel where my lip was, and what it was doing. For having all four done at the same time, there was no pain at all, none, whatsoever. However, I did wake up from the IV crying like a baby...

Get some rest, though. Even if you don't go to sleep, it's important to rest on a couch and do nothing. And take your painkillers at very regular intervals! They're needed to survive. XD Anyway, I wish you a speedy recovery. I'm proud of you for bravely facing this operation!

Yay! At least it's over with now, right? Though right now you're probably going through the worst of it. I don't respond well to novacane, so I never got the nice numb feeling. And I don't remember bleeding a whole lot. But I got to change out Jason's gauze pads. *shudder* Aleve is good. So is ice. Lots and lots of ice.

Also, after I had a gum operation this past winter, I totally had the same thing going on with my lip. It was hilarious trying to rinse my mouth out with water because the lip was still numb and didn't actually work to keep water in. XD

*novocaine.

[identity profile] chibimazoku.livejournal.com 2006-05-18 07:56 pm (UTC)(link)
Owie. Hope you feel better, and don't turn into a vampire. That would be bad. XD

[identity profile] hauntedreality.livejournal.com 2006-05-18 11:33 pm (UTC)(link)
*pets* I hope you feel better.

[identity profile] emglyph.livejournal.com 2006-05-19 12:02 am (UTC)(link)
Winner is you!

if it makes you feel better, I couldn't feel any of my face after they pulled 4 of my teeth and gave me 2 ...possibly 3...root canals. :D And i believe if you run out of the big V...lemme check...generic aspirin. Not like fake!aspirin, but the kind with the spooky "bad" drugs in 'em. What they make heart attack patients take. Those work well for teh pain.

And yeah, that coughing blood trick gets so old after the first few hours. XD ~hugs!~

*snuggles* Only recovery lies ahead.

[identity profile] gatafairy.livejournal.com 2006-05-19 04:44 pm (UTC)(link)
That, by the way, is meant to be comforting. XD
