Drabble Challenge cuz why not

Need to get cracking on my writing, Crysi made it look tempting, and, heck, I have way too much free time, what with the "can't find a job" thing. Challenge me!

Each person can ask for up to 3 drabbles, and you can ask for 1-3 people in each drabble. All genders and orientations welcome. Pairings are indicated by / and regular interaction with , -- but I'm Le Subtle and your pairing may or may not be nearly invisible.

I'm still on a KH kick, but you may also request: Tales of Symphonia/the Abyss, Suikoden I-III, Warcraft, Lost, Kyou Kara Maou, most of CLAMP, and Final Fantasy VI-XII (minus XI and VIII, although VIII characters may be requested in KH-verse, and plus Tactics). If you're really jonesing on something else, ask and I'll tell you. (In advance, I know nothing of Avatar.)

The format is Character/Character: prompt, as follows:

Luxord, Namine: fortune-telling
Marluxia/Zexion: politics are sexy
Balthier/Fran: the AU where he never took off the Judge costume

You can also request specific storylines, as follows:

Namine, Cid: the tea (AS)
Sora, Roxas, Xemnas: you know nothing (IXIII)

(No requests for NNK canon yet; there isn't enough of it to go around.)

Bonus points if you request at least one pairing that nobody I know writes.

DiZ/Riku: "Blurring Past and Present"

[identity profile] kay-willow.livejournal.com 2007-03-09 12:32 am (UTC)(link)
"So, Ansem," DiZ said, never without the utter awareness of the irony. He had forsaken that name. It had been desecrated. "You've changed. You know that, don't you?"

His guest was silent for long moments, but that was alright. DiZ understood what he didn't say because those were the same thoughts he was having. They had been nothing alike. Where he had been impressionable, mild and watchful, Riku had been a creature of pure action, mistrustful and independent. The distinction had been easy to make.

How quickly those differences had vanished; how quickly the past caught up to him and enveloped him.

His companion finally said, stiffly, "There is no point in clinging to a life that can never be regained."

DiZ clenched his fist in his robe, released it. Him again. I will not look back, he had said, for why cling to the past if I am never to find it? I can not remember, I can not go back, I must move on, he or one or both of them had said.

"I tell myself that every day," DiZ informed him instead, bitter and gracious as ever. "I suppose it is only natural that peace is an impossibility from the perspective of past mistakes. There are still things I regret."

When DiZ thought about him -- he had been such a fool. To think that he had been struck such a cruel blow by one who claimed to admire him, by one to whom he had given every charity, the benefit of every doubt... that was a burden sure to shake even the kindest of souls.

He didn't need admiration. Didn't need respect. He had moved beyond such pretty, self-flattering deceptions. He wanted only the cold hard truth now-- that, and revenge.

Just as if he had spoken aloud, his helper said in a voice cold as the void, "You don't get to say that when you let your obsessions rule you. You wear your hatred on your sleeve. The way you treat Namine, the way you talk about Roxas-- They deserve better."

Reprimanded by him--!

DiZ whirled on him, shoved back his hood and backed him against the computer and stared into those eyes, the eyes he remembered, the face that used to hold all the reverence of a worshipful child. His assistant did not say anything, nor struggle, when DiZ lowered lips to his; but it was unspoken that there was no admiration, no respect in this embrace.

That was fine. He didn't need those things.

But he would own this piece of his past. It would not own him. DiZ would prove that he was wrong.

Sometimes it drove him to the brink of madness just thinking about what he had been through, what had happened to him... But he always drew himself back from that oblivion in time, always let the wrath fade into cool, brittle loathing.

Calculating. Rational.

Sane.

He was ruled by no power save himself.

♥, as always~ I really really like the running theme that he's in control when he obviously isn't. So IC it hurts, really.
