KHFFR & Yaoi Halloween

I'd like to thank anyone in [livejournal.com profile] khfanficrants who pointed out that digging up a rant from nine months ago that someone made on their personal LJ and posting it out of context? Is a little lame. Slow news day over there, or what?

I'd also like to laugh at anyone in [livejournal.com profile] khfanficrants who didn't actually read what they were replying to, and so made generalizations about how it's bad that I made a generalization that they're all hypocrites, when in fact it was the poster generalizing that they are all hypocrites, and I myself was very specific. The moral of the story is: Generalizing about generalizations about generalizations is bad.

Also, new glossary term: Yaoi Halloween! I have been instructed to pass this one on to you. Yaoi Halloween is when two or more entities in elaborate love polygons are wearing masks that happen to resemble the members of a given fandom, e.g. Zexion and Demyx (in the case in question). Yaoi Halloween is the exclusive territory of badfic.

I'm not caring for [livejournal.com profile] inxblot's post, obviously.

The only truth in fandom is that everyone is elitist. Hypocrisy is a common sympton~!

You: You hate X pairing because of stupid fans, not because the pairing is stupid. That's silly and hypocritical.

Posters: Not me! I hate the pairings because of stupid fans! And if that makes me an elitist....

Cognitive dissonance, perhaps?

And I still love the Yaoi Halloween thing.

BUT FANDOM IS SRS BIZNSS??

Could've exercised a little more tact is all -- I mean, you can start a conversation about a post that's nine months old, and you can start a conversation about a post that presents an opinion you don't agree with, but doing both at once in the comm that was supposedly targeted for it is kind of inviting discord.

Fortunately, most of the comments are like, "Umm, why did you link to someone's personal LJ? Not cool!" So joke's on the OP, lawl.

[identity profile] alba-aulbath.livejournal.com 2007-06-23 01:11 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, of course. She's free to disagree and form a discussion. Linking to someone's personal journal is simply bad form. Alba = very unamused.

I'm glad just about everyone else is agreeing with me.

Way to read the inappropriately linked post, you guys!

It's an awesome phrase. Guess who's behind the mask?! Oh my goodness! It's Typical Yaoi Uke #3!!

Right! That part was supposed to go in there somewhere and got lost in my accursed attempts at logic.

I can't remember if [livejournal.com profile] cp_jacksparrow linked to Li-san's entry in his/her/its rant, but the issue was much the same -- "I found this posted privately in someone's personal LJ, now to make a mockery of them in public!"

[identity profile] alba-aulbath.livejournal.com 2007-06-23 01:19 am (UTC)(link)
I believe CP simply copied and pasted the post into KHFFR. Anyway, everyone had the same reaction, that it was bad form to pry apart someone like that, especially since they were a member of the comm.

Not that members of the comm are invulnerable to being disagreed with/discussed about, but it obviously was a retarded thing to do.

[identity profile] maladaptive.livejournal.com 2007-06-23 01:26 am (UTC)(link)
No link, just copied and pasted strategic sentences.

8/13 is a special case! It's the day after my birthday, see.

I totally want to write a Yaoi Halloween fic.

Axel: You're just lucky I was there to save you from total ravishment by Xemnas.
Roxas: *blush* Well, I just wanted-- just wanted to say thanks-- you've done so much for me-- and I-- *starry eyed*
Axel: ...
Demyx: *taking off an axel mask* Oh, come on, that is so OOC.
Xigbar: *taking off a roxas mask* That's the point. Why are we even doing this if they're not going to kill us for it? Now put your mask back on before anyone sees who we are. We can still win the costume contest.

It wasn't the same reaction. At all. :\ I can't prove it because CP bahleeted, but I remember. There were dozens of comments that were really short-sighted and hurtful. Only a few people saw through it and went, "Wait, that post had nothing to do with Axel/Roxas. Your rant is the only thing that mentions Axel/Roxas."

Everyone else was too happy to jump on-board the hate-train because it was going to a familiar destination: Akurokuville. My most vivid memory is of one whore saying, "This is the reason why I'm embarrassed to be an Axel/Roxas fan. I wish people like this would stop making a bad name for our ship." Emphasis mine. Even Axel/Roxas fans were embarrassed because people like the fictional person CP was mocking were shipping a pairing she like.

It still makes me mad. Yay sheep. And half the wank that made CP delete the post was actually not "disagreement" at all, but because a mod got pissed off that CP deleted her thread, right?

Rawr.

[identity profile] alba-aulbath.livejournal.com 2007-06-23 02:03 am (UTC)(link)
No, I'm pretty sure there was a similar reaction. My memory's fuzzy about it, of course, but there was definitely a lot of us who had a similar reaction.

Yeah, a few of us mods were pretty P.O.'d.

[identity profile] maladaptive.livejournal.com 2007-06-23 02:23 am (UTC)(link)
'fraid most of the comm was all up in arms about the stupid Axel/Roxas fans. It was when some people disagreed (Yume started that, IIRC) and when [livejournal.com profile] libekory showed up, the drama bahleetion occurred. I know a lot of people were boggling, but not many managed to comment before the post disappeared.

I know a lot of people were boggling, but not many managed to comment before the post disappeared.

Hence my "a lot of us" statement. Which does not apply to "all".

Seems like the khffr mods recognize it's a troll, at least. Probably grudge wank, seeing as the user's account is 1 month old.

Yeah, I'm not buying it. It's actually kind of funny. I got nice-trolled -- someone posted on the entry about how fandom should all be a big happy family, and then deleted it. XD

[identity profile] hauntedreality.livejournal.com 2007-06-24 02:53 pm (UTC)(link)
Fans: the greatest enemy of fandom. ^_^

Was this something that happened to you? I mean, were you the linked up old rant?
ext_52683: (Default)

[identity profile] kay-willow.livejournal.com 2007-06-24 04:25 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, someone read a rant I wrote nine months ago (specifically, about how some fans of weird pairings think that they're "better" than fans of the popular pairings; this was especially prominent on KHFFR, where -- at least at the time -- a bunch of those people gathered together and were actively vehement about how fans of certain popular pairings were all mindless sheep and probably twelve years old) and posted a link to it on KHFFR.

About 75% of the comments were "Well, that was posted on her personal LJ, so... isn't it kind of rude to post it here? It's not like she forced anyone to read it. If she can't post her opinions on her LJ, where can she post it?" and a good number agreed that this attitude is prevalent. Most asked her to take down the link (which she didn't) and the mods called troll on her and marked her post as such. XD So in the end the day was mostly won, but for a while there it was still weird to have people suddenly commenting on that old thing. I got nice-trolled!

[identity profile] hauntedreality.livejournal.com 2007-06-24 04:29 pm (UTC)(link)
Geesh. That sucks. It's good to be on lock-down sometimes...

Did you know the person/troll? Random vendetta?
ext_52683: (Default)

[identity profile] kay-willow.livejournal.com 2007-06-24 04:50 pm (UTC)(link)
Random person, says she was reading fics, possibly mine, because she wound up at my journal, and...... I guess read like my entire journal. Doesn't it figure-- she didn't actually comment on anything I wrote, but she tried to start controversy by linking a post where I ranted about a certain community on that community, nine months after I wrote it. XD

[identity profile] hauntedreality.livejournal.com 2007-06-24 08:43 pm (UTC)(link)
Wow, that's made of special. *snugs*
