Bleach chapter 291
Nel as number three Espada = fucking win.
Next chapter we'll know for sure if she slaughtered Noitra or not, but I love her forever. I like Noitra as an evil ambitious misogynistic sadist, but I won't cry if he dies. (He's not even pretty, you guys, he's like an eerie lizard-man. He is a larger version of that little Hollow iguana out in the desert. Stop drooling on him.)
If Nel had been demoted properly, like Grimmjow (and theoretically like the Privaron?), that mark would have been scorched off her back, so I assume that Aizen did not demote her. Noitra broke part of her mask -- probably because he likes hurting people and is keen to get other people out of the way so that he can progress in the ranks -- and we know that breaking a Hollow's mask is how you kill them. My current guess is that he sneakily sabotaged her while she was unsuspecting, and she either voluntarily or otherwise did the little-kid thing to escape him and nurture her surviving power.
I have heard people theorize that Nel is Masaki's Hollow, due to some physical resemblance and her connection to Ichigo. I doubt it (Grand Fisher ate her; like Kaien, she's sort of been removed from the normal process of things) but Isshin/Masaki!Nel would be so incredibly hot. Espada Hollow Mom ftw.
On the other hand, there's Ichigo/Nel talk. Right now I don't see them as being very pairingish -- they're more like Ichigo/Rukia. There's something there, and it's significant, but it isn't sexual. (She's nearly-naked, and he doesn't even give her the courtesy of a Yoruichi-esque freakout.) (Of course, it might be difficult for him to see her too sexually right now, since a few minutes ago she was... three years old.)

And a random discussion question about the Privaron. Do you think their number correlates to the order they were replaced in, or to what number Espada they used to be?
