I saw this meme on okroginator's LJ and decided to do it, apparently because I want to make people regret friending me because I hate their OTP. I couldn't help it. It involved pairing discussion, and I am weak to that.

The questions:

#1. Why do you dislike #11 so much?
There's a difference between disliking and never liking. I don't like it, but I don't actively dislike it, not really. The bond between Ichigo and Rukia is real, and significant, and deep, but it's... a very platonic bond, in my observations. They are the best of friends, and I enjoy them best like that. Now, their fans...

#2. Who do you know that ships #13?
Um, I know libekory kind of sees it? When I wrote this Yoruichi/Byakuya fic a lot of people climbed out of the walls to say that they liked seeing stuff for this pairing, which boggled me, since I'd pretty much thought I invented it. aoife_hime wrote a fic for it on bleach_het after mine.

#3. What would be your ideal scenario for couple #3?
They need a scenario? Ummm, you know what -- Hinamori finds where she put her balls when she started working for Aizen and decides she wants to learn bankai. Hitsugaya helps her, obliquely or directly, and she masters it in a moment of desperation when he's in danger, realizing that he's more important to her than chasing shadows of what Aizen never was. So epic it's purple.

#4. What is your favorite moment for #1?
Okay, as sweet as "five lifetimes" is, I'm going to go with masked!Ichigo jumping in front of Orihime and shielding her at the cost of his own health. It killed me -- killed me! -- how hurt Ichigo seemed in those little discreet panels when he saw that Orihime was frightened of him. Ugh, the heart bleeds.

#5. How long have you been following couple #6?
...maybe a few weeks. Not that there's anything to follow, I think a throwaway drabble I wrote is like the only Renji/Hinamori thing on the interweb. (Although I was wrong when I thought that about Yoruichi/Byakuya, so...) I will write something longer for them.

#6. What's the story with #8? What made you stop caring?
Ahhh, Ishida/Orihime. I still like it, best of all if unrequited on his part (since we already know who she likes) but the reasons I stopped wanting to ship it were twofold: First, Orihime doesn't realize he's male. That makes it awkward. He's literally so asexual to her that she started stripping in front of him without realizing he is not her usual locker-room audience.

Secondly, because on a re-read of the manga, I realized that really early on -- long before she'd even had a chance to try and fight -- Ishida just dismissed her abilities completely out of hand, deciding that she wasn't a combatant and all the fighting would have to be him, he had to protect her because she was weak... not necessarily in power, but in heart. If Orihime knew he'd been thinking that, she would have been even more miserable after the SS arc than she already was.

He wants to be a champion, a savior, and Orihime doesn't want to be his princess. Being his princess would make her unhappy.

That's why. :\

#7. Which ship do you prefer--#2 or #4?
Renji/Rukia vs Gin/Rangiku is such an apples and oranges comparison. I guess they're both tragic in different ways, but Renji/Rukia should and could happen, and Gin/Rangiku is going to burn, burn, crash and burn in flames. I guess for that reason I prefer Renji/Rukia: I lovelovelove the twisted tension that is Gin/Rangiku, but Renji/Rukia complements each other better and is healthier. I wish the fandom had more Gin/Rangiku, though.

#8. You have the power to make one ship non-existent. Choose from #10 or #12.
Oh god. This is hard. Oh man. Gin/Kira or Byakuya/Renji... Mmm. I think I'd have to go with Gin/Kira. I hate 90% of Byakuya pairings, but Gin/Kira is special because a lot of those fans are deluded into thinking their pairing is A) totly canon lol or B) Kira is totly an uke gheiboy lol or C) Gin/Kira is made of happy bunnies. It isn't canon, Kira liking girls is canon, and Gin/Kira should be pain and fear and misery. The end.

#9. What interests you about #14?
Kira/Kiyone is my ship of total random. Kiyone would be good for him! She would shout down anyone who treated him badly, but in her downtime she could still make him feel wanted and valued which is important because otherwise he'd be totally intimidated by her aggressiveness. She could top him if she wanted but she'd let him top because she doesn't need to compete with him. :3 And she would breathe fire on anyone who tried to kidnap their children. (Don't ask why this is a possibility, it's a long story. Gin would do it.)

#10. When did you stop liking #7?
Aizen/Gin -- sigh. A few weeks ago, maybe a month. The fandom doesn't do anything with it that isn't horribly OOC, and the canon hasn't given me anything new on either of them for ages. I guess the ship just lost steam? I still like it, just not as much.

#11. Did your waning interest in #9 kill your interest in the series?
Oh no. Tatsuki/Orihime is cute, I just came to like other pairings more -- I shipped them way at the beginning, and the interest faded towards the end of the Soul Society arc when Orihime's crush on Ichigo started becoming something more than throwaway hints. Ironically, I like both of them with Ichigo more than with each other now.

#12. What's a song that reminds you of #5?
Hahahaha "Defying Gravity" on the Wicked soundtrack reminds me of Rukia/Orihime. (As is obvious from the title of the icon I have of them.) At its most abstract, the song is about two female friends who are seemingly at odds, but who care too much for that; they can defy gravity together, show everyone who didn't believe in them, but one of them chooses reluctantly to stay grounded, and the other one leaves to take on the world. But they are still extremely gay for each other. I approve.

#13. Which of these ships do you love the most right now?
Nggh, so hard to decide. Hitsugaya/Hinamori, maybe, but probably because Hinamori is my favorite. (I think about Renji/Hinamori an inordinate amount, for such an unfounded pairing.)

#14. Which do you dislike the most?
Ugh. Umm, I guess... Gin/Kira, just because what little I know of their fanbase is that too many of them think it's kind of fluffy. Bleh! For all the reasons I chose it to not exist above.

#15. If you could have any of these pairings double date, who would they be?
Renji/Rukia and Hitsugaya/Hinamori. Hinamori wants to get to know Renji's crush better~ and she wants Hitsugaya-kun to spend more time with her friends~ And Renji and Rukia both have a healthy amount of respect for Hitsugaya so they're allowed to stay. I think Renji would enjoy double-dating as an experience more than Ichigo would.

#16. Have #2 kissed yet? Elaborate if yes.
They should. No, Renji/Rukia is not quite canon. XD Although, uh, it's more canon than any other pairing on this list? Fail.

#17. Did #4 have a happy ending? Do you think one is likely?
Absolutely 100% I think not. :D Gin and Rangiku are going to spiral into angst, backstory, and then Gin will probably die. Sometimes I like to think of AU in which they could suck less.

#18. What would make you start shipping #14?
I think I misunderstood the point of the Interest Piqued category. I already kind of ship it. Umm, really if Kiyone had any sort of positive interaction with Kira, I would flip out. Because. So far she hasn't. *fails*

#19. If only one could happen, which would you prefer--#2 or #6?
Renji/Rukia or Renji/Hinamori? Rukia Rukia Rukia. Zero question.

#1. Why do you dislike #11 so much?
OH GOD THE PRETTYSHIP IT BURNS!

Seriously, Zexion is incredibly smart, doesn't like casual touching or casual friendship or casual anything, and Demyx is both an idiot (sorry! I love him!) and the definition of casual. If Zexion doesn't like Xigbar's attitude, he must really hate Demyx. Demyx isn't even smart. ...Xigbar/Demyx didn't make it onto my list, but I like it, for the record.

Demyx must be like, an insect to Zexion. It's incredible what a non-ship this seems like to me. (I know some people on my flist like it, I'm sorry!!)

#2. Who do you know that ships #13?
Roxas/Kairi? Absolutely nobody. Probably nobody in the fandom really ships it. XD

#3. What would be your ideal scenario for couple #3?
...they need a scenario? All they need is to be themselves. Um, Zexion has been plotting for ages. It's not easy, because he was too young and up to his ears in research when Ienzo died to really know what he's doing, but he makes a move anyway, and Lexaeus is Surprised, because, uh, in his experience the only people who go for him are people with a size fetish. ...Next.

#4. What is your favorite moment for #1?
Blah blah blah "made me feel like I had a heart." I mean... the Final Mix+ scenes, probably. When Axel speaks to Roxas on top of the clock tower, that miserable, heart-wrenching conversation, and when we see more of Axel's doing things for Roxas in Chain of Memories.

#5. How long have you been following couple #6?
Seifer/Namine? Ever since I made it up out of thin air. For serious. At least Renji and Hinamori are friends, this pairing is literally made up 95% of the Power of Crossover. He wants a witch, she wants a knight! It would be perfect, I'm telling you!

#6. What's the story with #8? What made you stop caring?
The fandom killed Axel/Larxene for me. It was fun and sadistic and full of smirking evil and hatesex, but then rose up a subset of hysterical person shrieking that Axel luuuurves Larxene so suck it Axel/Roxas shippers, and I was like, "Huh, what? Axel/Larxene is canon? Do we share the same fandom?" But alas, we did not. I was a fan of Kingdom Hearts, and they were fans of some other thing, with a sarcastic redhead and a gruff but needy little girl. Maybe they were Zelos/Sheena fans.

#7. Which ship do you prefer--#2 or #4?
Sora/Namine or Marluxia/Larxene? Oooh, I love Marluxia/Larxene, but Sora/Namine gets me right in the heartstrings. I'm gonna have to go with them. Namine was so discreetly heartbroken when Sora didn't pick her, and Sora was so hurt when he realized his feelings for her weren't real. They could've been, Sora!! They could've been.

#8. You have the power to make one ship non-existent. Choose from #10 or #12.
Leon/Cloud is a billion times less appealing than Axel/Kairi, the end. Goodbye~~~

#9. What interests you about #14?
Cloud/Yuffie is a weird little pairing. I ship Leon/Aerith and Cloud/Tifa in KH, but I have to admit that there's an appealing "family" aura around the Hollow Bastion crew, and Cloud/Yuffie is born from the observation that Cloud is there, like a ghost, haunting the place wistfully, and I think Yuffie would be as likely as Aerith to approach him and try to bring him into their little family; but Aerith makes him shy away, filled with angst and more angst, and Yuffie wouldn't remind him of his failures so powerfully.

#10. When did you stop liking #7?
Actually, I stopped liking Larxene/Namine very early on after people found out CoM existed. Every time I saw it, it was exactly the same. Larxene torments/molests Namine, Namine is terrified of her and hates it (or doesn't hate it secretly) but has no spine. Yawn. The dynamic is the same with their every canon interaction and with every fandom rendition of it. And if the dynamic wasn't the same in a fandom rendition of it, I'd probably find it OOC. Therefore, lost interest. (This is also why I don't care for Gin/Kira. It's either psychological torture or it's OOC.)

#11. Did your waning interest in #9 kill your interest in the series?
No, it didn't, but it kind of made it difficult to rationalize things when KH2 came around. I found it hard to forget that at the beginning of the first game, Kairi tried to ditch Riku and run away with Sora alone. I don't dislike the pairing, and in fact I'm interested in it because it's so rare -- but I don't really do it, myself.

#12. What's a song that reminds you of #5?
I know a lot of songs that remind me of Aerith herself, but I don't really have any Leon/Aerith songs off the top of my head. Maybe Sarah McLachlan's "Answer" -- a song about someone who's the steady rock in the life of the one she loves, because they have so much chaos, so much struggling to reclaim their home, but she'll be there for him when they're both at peace. (I love Hollow Bastion crew so much.)

#13. Which of these ships do you love the most right now?
I've been really kind of jonesing on Lexaeus/Zexion lately, I think. They're just. Too awesome to leave alone.

#14. Which do you dislike the most?
Leon/Cloud, I think. Worse than Zexion/Demyx because they're boring -- at least Zexion and Demyx are two people with distinct personalities. "........." <-both my feelings on Leon/Cloud as a pairing and a decent summary of the pairing itself.

#15. If you could have any of these pairings double date, who would they be?
Ummm, Aerith wants to double date with all of them. She likes this idea. Oddly, I'd almost like to see Leon/Aerith and Lexaeus/Zexion -- just because Zexion and Aerith have a fun dynamic, and he will be unnerved to find that he can't make her cry as easily as he could when he was "babysitting" her when they were younger, but Lexaeus makes up for his irritability.

Another part of me wants to say Roxas/Kairi and Seifer/Namine just so Roxas and Seifer can spend the whole time snarling at each other. It'd be awesome.

...Obviously I only like fail double dates in KH.

#16. Have #2 kissed yet? Elaborate if yes.
Sora/Namine have never kissed (*sob*). From the way that the false memories were discussed, though, I wouldn't be surprised if there was at least one kiss, maybe just a shy kiddy kiss, in Namine's created memories.

#17. Did #4 have a happy ending? Do you think one is likely?
Uhh, no, they didn't. Axel brought down their evil scheme and got them both killed, so I wouldn't call Marluxia/Larxene a happy ending. ...Can Nobodies have happy endings?

#18. What would make you start shipping #14?
There, this is better than the Bleach version, I don't actually ship Cloud/Yuffie. Umm, I think the best way to do it would be if Yuffie either helped snap him to his senses, got him to join the "family," or else traveled and fought with him for a while out of stubborn insistence that he not be alone, probably talking to himself broodingly like a crazy man.

#19. If only one could happen, which would you prefer--#2 or #6?
Sora/Namine versus Seifer/Namine I'd definitely have to pick Sora/Namine, because he's her first choice, her hero, her dream. Seifer is second-best again, oh snap.

#20. You have the power to decide the fate of #10. What happens to them?
...I already consigned this pairing to oblivion, again. Why isn't this question about, like, #13, which I didn't consign to oblivion, or even really have reason to talk about yet?

Okay. I put Aerith down between Leon and Cloud, and they suddenly remember that there are people in Kingdom Hearts who actually make them interesting characters and cause them to have facial expressions sometimes. She teases Cloud, who skulks off (immediately followed by a frustrated Tifa, who had trouble finding him through the dense fog of "..." that surrounds Leon/Cloud pairing), and then puts her hands on her hips and tilts her head and reminds Leon that there is work to be done rebuilding, which he then shuffles off to help her do.

Meanwhile, in a universe where Sora didn't come back, Roxas and Kairi meet in passing and realize that they had a connection, that one time, just for a moment, and even though it was Sora who connected them, they can only ask each other for more information. They get to talking. ...Then Axel kills her discreetly and Roxas never finds out what happened. What? He's even jealous of Roxas's normal friends.

Aside from that, I AGREE that the Gin/Kira fanbase is all like "omg fluffy bunnies and yay". AHAHA NO. The reason I like Gin/Kira? BECAUSE IT'S DARK.

Seriously, I don't mind the pairing as much as the attitude of the people who have it. XD Stop telling me Kira bakes goddamn cookies for Gin. Kira cringes when Gin touches him! That is fun stuff, I've roleplayed Kira and Gin emotional abuse, but so many of the shippers doesn't want to play with that, they just want to squeal about OTP. Rawr? Seriously? OTP? I think Kira would cry if that were true. XD

Gin/Rangiku is beautiful and horrible and I love the little dance they do around each other. Gin doesn't want to care about her, but he can't not care; he brings Rangiku nothing but uncertainty and loneliness but she can't quit him just move on either. They're stuck in each other and doomed, doomed, doomed. It's so many kinds of horrible wonderful. XD I'M GLAD YOU LOVE IT TOO ♥

I almost feel lucky sometimes that my preferences came down so clearly on one side of the Ichigo/Rukia and Renji/Rukia divide, because I know a lot of people are caught between them, and I saw a lot of ship-warring on F!S. XD I actually started watching Bleach in the first place because I was curious to know what opinion I would form on the Epic Battle of Ichigo/Rukia vs Ichigo/Orihime. When I actually watched it, I was like, "Really? Ichigo/Rukia or Ichigo/Orihime? But Renji/Rukia is df;lksdlfkjds." XD

Re: Ishida/Orihime. That thought was kind of only half-expressed. *ponder* I think a better expression is that Ishida seems to want to be the chivalrous hero -- he wants to take the center stage and protect the fair maiden, and Orihime was not down with that. Being unable to fight made her miserable in the Soul Society arc -- and Ishida kind of started that himself. He refused to let her fight when she wanted to help and even blackmailed someone into taking her away from the fight, despite her kicking and screaming and struggling. To be fair, it was probably the smart, rational choice, considering that Mayuri wanted her and Mayuri is a creep factory, but that doesn't heal the hurt feelings.

And I feel like Orihime, from what we've seen of her, is more likely to take those hurt feelings and bury them, keep smiling bravely, instead of letting him know that she's hurt, and Ishida, being a total dork, will fail to notice or understand. And he's not close enough to Rukia for her to smack him upside the head for it the way she would with Ichigo. :( So it isn't really that Orihime doesn't want to be protected and cherished; I think she would like that, which is why I think she could be happy with Ichigo, who is also all "rawr protect". But I kind of think Ishida is full of nobly-intended chauvinism and wouldn't know what to make of Orihime's desire to fight as well.

Because, Ichigo does that as well -- because Ishida is more inclined to foresight and planning, he does it to a greater extent than Ichigo, but Ichigo would do it to everyone, and with the same reasoning. It's why Chad has existential angst, and why Tatsuki punches his skull through a window. Though, to be fair, it's less outright underestimation and more a blind, dumb, MUST PROTECT MUST KEEP SAFE MUST PROTECT. But underestimation in favor of his own responsibility is still there.

(also, to be fair, later in that arc Ishida is giving Orihime greater credit, insofar as believing she'll be find because she was superior to the guy he'd had kidnap her from Mayuri. But, uh, mostly, you are right, and Ishida needs Tatsuki to beat him up.)

Pairing Musings

I agree with all the Bleach pairings, except Ichigo/Orihime, because I have yet to be sold on it. (Ichigo throwing Orihime over his shoulder was totally cute, though.) The ship I've shipped the longest has to be RenRuki, which I didn't even notice until the infamous Chapter 98 flashback: then I was like, "Oooooohhh," even though sharper eyes than mine had picked up on the very obvious "pissy ex-boyfriend" vibes from Renji.

I love Hitsugaya/Hinamori, even though if you really believe Hitsugaya feels something for Hinamori beyond friendship (and a lot don't, which I can understand), then reading that part of the Soul Society arc (and Chapter 224) is absolute torture, because it makes everything that much more painful. Like...ow, my heart. OW.

I sometimes feel that for all the teasing and for the scads of one-way huge crushes (Soi Fong, I'm looking at you), it's just as well that no one ever seems to pair up in Bleach in canon, because the canon couples tend to get killed dead pretty quickly (in flashbacks, at least, hee).

Well, there's not much to be sold on with Ichigo/Orihime right now: It's only canon inasmuch as it's utterly one-sided. I think it's utterly sweet of her either way, and I happen to also think from the way he's acted in the last arc that Ichigo might and could return the sentiment. Hence, I ship it. :3 The other pairings on this list have a more mutual suggestion in canon right now.

Hitsugaya/Hinamori is such love, although I know a lot of people who think they're just "like siblings" and I know where that comes from, that's fine. But oh man, poor Hitsugaya. He does so much for her, he's pretty much made history, but he still falls short of protecting her. :\ I feel terrible for him, but I think they're just the most touching thing regardless. I want to see more of either or both of them.

Anyway, I'm happy if you enjoyed the pairing musings. XD

My OTP is Renji/Rukia but I wish Renji and Hinamori's relationship was explored in fanfiction more often (both romantically and platonically). How nice Hinamori was to Renji is the reason why I was never prone to hate Hinamori (like so many people seem inclined to). The fact that she didn't telling anyone (not even Aizen) Renji was missing and also prepared to tell Byakuya what an asshole he was being, made it clear to me that under normal circumstances she's a fantastic friend.

And I would just love to see a fanfic where Hinamori is trying to cheer Renji up after Rukia left.
