I've encountered a writing lull. You know what that means?
DRABBLE CHALLENGES OPEN.

I'm going to go ahead and limit it to Bleach and Kingdom Hearts fandoms this time around. You can request any character or set of characters or pair of characters, but be warned that I tend to write on the level of hinty genfic 90% of the time.

"Ta-da!" Orihime said, draping herself over the back of the couch and holding out a tray of cookies, beaming brightly.

Ichigo sucked on a stinging finger (who had decided Christmas ornaments with pin-needle hooks should just float around in this box?) shifted to look at the tray. He fully expected the cookies to be lumpy and miscolored (maybe gray) and oozing something unpleasantly where other cookies, made by other cooks, might have had chocolate chips. But he was pleasantly surprised: they were attractive, shapely little treats, yellow and decorated with seasonal frosting.

"Huh," he said, reaching for one. "You actually did it."

"I kept the creativity to a minimum," Orihime said modestly, but she was watching him with an eager smile.

"How did you get creative with sugar cookies?"

Her beam deepened, and she leaned on the couch, watch eagerly. "Well, I wanted them to be more Christmasy, so... They're mistletoe cookies!"

Ichigo paused, and drew the cookie back, looking at it more critically. There didn't seem to be anything mistletoe-like about the frosting pattern (a little mutant Santa bunny; Rukia must have helped) or coloring.

"You didn't put mistletoe in the cookies, did you?"

Orihime finally climbed over the back of the couch and settled next to him, putting her hands on his knee to share some of her excitement. "You guessed!"

It figured. Ichigo told her evenly. "Mistletoe is poisonous, Inoue."

"Oh." It took a beat before that seemed to make sense to her, and then her eager posture eased up. She looked a little crestfallen.

"Idiot," Ichigo said, smiling slightly despite himself. "There's nothing wrong with sugar cookies. You don't need to improve on the recipe."

Orihime curled her legs up to her chest and murmured to no one, "I wonder if I can make another batch before everyone else gets here?"

That quiet voice made him inexplicably restless; he turned the cookie over in his hand and said, pragmatic, "Well, they're probably good for something."

Ichigo quirked a grin at her as she looked up and then put the cookie squarely on the top of her head. Orihime had just a moment to stare at him before he ducked in to claim his kiss. In a beat she melted, twisting her fingers into his hoodie to hold him close for one sweet, reassuring second.

"Ow," Orihime said, drawing back with a frown. "Is there a needle in your shirt?"

"Huh?" Ichigo said, and glanced down at the ornament hook that had somehow become embedded in his hoodie. He scowled at it. "Screw the tree. Come on, let's go bake cookies."

The cookie had fallen from her hair at some point, and Orihime put it back on the tray, asking with surprise, "You're helping?"

"Yeah," he muttered, and was rewarded with an excited clasp of his hand, which told him plainly that she'd forgotten all about her disappointment over the stupid death cookies.

(He'd have to throw those out, he reminded himself, because they were not deformed or otherwise visibly distinguishable from normal cookies. And wouldn't that be a fine Christmas gift for their friends?)
