This is freaky
So we're in Arthurian Legends class today and the following conversation, as passed on notepaper back and forth, ensues. (Don't worry. This is wholly authorized by the professor. She's told our group before that she knows we're smart and don't really need the lectures but other people do, so please refrain from whispering and pass notes instead. It's our duty to pass notes in this class.)
This discussion involves lots of technicalities and highly detailed analysis of Arthurian legends... and, um, Fruits Basket. Proceed at your own risk.
mojojessjo: Gawain is such a man-whore.
kay_willow: Yep. And he likes it. Ayame and the schoolboard...?
mojojessjo: Oh my God. Why am I suddenly seeing him in a very feminine suit of armor running after Hatori? Spouting bad courtly love poetry?
kay_willow: Would that make Hatori... Mordred? No, we've got it wrong. Gawain is Shigure, and Mordred can be Ayame.
Val: Would that make Arthur Hatori?
kay_willow: Yes! Val wouldn't like that, though. But it's so there. Come on. Gawain is totally "High school girls~ High school girls~"
Val: But it's still Ayame/Hatori.
kay_willow: Please. You can't see Ayame and Shigure? They flirt constantly.
Val: Of course they do but it's all in fun. Like Alicia with Jess, and... then that would make John Hatori... ACK.
mojojessjo: This is highly amusing... And highly confusing. But I agree with you, Kay. Hatori/Shigure/Ayame (Arthur/Gawain/Mordred) are so having a lovely threesome, or at least a triangle.
kay_willow: Val is hurting herself. SUBMIT TO THE INCEST! YOU CAN'T ESCAPE! RESISTANCE IS FUTILE! Arthur's sister seduced him and Mordred is all over him and Arthur angsts about his wife and Gawain'll happily do anything close to the age of consent/willing to play with them and then they all have an orgy bwahaha.
mojojessjo: ORGY! Nekkid time! Woohoo!
Val: Is Morgana Arthur's sister? I thought she was Guenivere's? Or does it switch?
kay_willow: Morgana was originally created because nobody wanted to believe that Arthur's sweet and good sister Anna would sleep with him. And Morgana is Arthur's half-sister even when she was created so that Anna could go on being Gawain's pure and wonderful mother, so it's still incest. Arthur's slept with at least one sister, his nephew, and his son. And Gawain and Mordred are brothers. Bwahaha!
mojojessjo: Incest... the medieval dating game.
Val: OUCH.
(Then we went on to discuss how in the short story Val read, Arthur and Merlin were all cuddly and loveydovey and frankly a bit scary confessing their love to each other on Arthur's deathbed, and how if they were getting it on, Merlin must've been related to Arthur somehow. We reason that the incubus who fathered Merlin also seduced Arthur's mother Ygraine, so now they can be half-brothers and Arthur can keep up his ratio of incestuous relationships.)
But the point IS... King Arthur and his court fit EERILY into the Fruits Basket world. I mean, Arthur's even got the Hatori thing going in that Guinevere is all emotionally-invested in Lancelot, and Hatori's would-be wife is getting married to somebody else at series present.
We scare ourselves. And you if you're smart. Also, you should ph33r my Arthurian lore proficiency.
Wonderful people surround me. Love.
