Dissatisfaction! Failmod is fail!

Ugh, I don't even know why I go to [livejournal.com profile] fandomsecrets anymore. There's only an interesting secret once or twice a week, which is itself reason to stop going, but everything else about it is starting to piss me off.

They experiment with two different numbering methods, and then post a poll going "SHOULD WE USE THE NEW NUMBERING METHOD? YES/NO/I'M A TARD/COOKIES" Uh, there are two different numbering methods. This poll is confusing and not helpful at all. They should follow this example for the election. "WHO SHOULD BE THE PRESIDENT? YES/NO/TICKY BOX" Ticky box will be the new fucking president, it will be awesome.

Then [livejournal.com profile] technophile apparently decides unilaterally what can be posted and what can't. This secret wasn't posted because "person thinks pairings are religion". ...so? Does that not make it a secret? Do people who employ hyperbole not get to have their secrets posted? What the hell is this? Do secrets get not posted now because [livejournal.com profile] technophile doesn't think he'd want to hang out with you?

Then there's the fact that secrets from small fandoms and secrets about fandoms in general get called "not fandom", and secrets that don't blatantly spell out "This is a secret because" on it often get railroaded into not-posted because they're "not secrets". If someone is confessing to something embarrassing, how is that less of a secret than ten goddamn thousand "I'd hit it!" secrets of someone like Alan Rickman or Cloud Strife? Millions of people think they're hot, shut up. Why are secrets about [livejournal.com profile] fandomsecrets secrets, but not secrets about thinspiration secrets?

For the record, I've only once submitted a secret, and yes, I passed the rigorous testing method of 1) Does it look like it belongs to a fandom? 2) Does it say "This is a secret because" on it?

Hee! My favorite "secrets" are the ones that say, on a picture of a previous secret, "if you post a secret with red text I automatically think less of you."
Um, okay. So?

Most of the time it's boring. I hardly read them anymore, I just scroll through looking for interesting characters/series that I should check out later.

"I think less of you" secrets are way better than "I lose all respect for you" secrets. XD What a stupid idea. But lol I'm the only person who thinks logically in fandom anyway, la~~

That tends to be what I do. Skimskimskim and read secrets only that are either A) about fandoms I know, or B) don't have an image revealing the fandom.

[identity profile] maladaptive.livejournal.com 2008-06-10 01:42 am (UTC)(link)
They're boring, and because there's now like, 70 something secrets per post, it takes so long to load it's not even worth it.

Also, none of the good secrets get comments. They're all "I'd bone that [very hot we all agree] character too! I thought I was alone!"

I know. Is anyone really surprised that you'd "hit" Kamina "like the fist of an angry god"? Would anyone in that fandom not? How is it a secret? It's practically common knowledge.

OH, you know what else is great? Secrets that go "lol obvious secret poster is obvious". ....doesn't that mean it isn't a secret? If everyone on my flist immediately recognizes my secret, doesn't that mean it isn't a secret? But noooo, they invariably wind up posted, it's secrets that don't explain why they are secrets that get cut out. wtf is this.

[identity profile] continuum.livejournal.com 2008-06-09 10:22 pm (UTC)(link)
I go to F!S late into the night when I don't want to go bed and I can't read half the secrets anyway because my eyes are too tired. Because yeah, I have no idea what's up with the not!secrets/not!fandom things, since they realllly don't make sense. :O!

RP!S is for the lulz and wank over RPGs that I don't even know about. I love how low-profile [livejournal.com profile] damned is when it comes these sorts of comms.

...And that's pretty much all those places are good for. 8D;

Yeah, I almost never hear any complains about [livejournal.com profile] damned. :3 You are the winnar.

But I have this like, nostalgia for the "good old days" when it used to be more consistently interesting. I wonder if I'm just deluding myself, and I just used to care more, or something. XD

[identity profile] continuum.livejournal.com 2008-06-09 11:12 pm (UTC)(link)
Nah, you're not deluding yourself. XD; I've only recently started following it, so I went back through some older entries one time before and...they really were way more interesting. 8D

[identity profile] meimi.livejournal.com 2008-06-09 11:10 pm (UTC)(link)
I've always found fandomsecrets to be a hotbed of wank (even in its early days), so it doesn't surprise me at all that the mods are wanky in and of themselves.

[identity profile] kay-willow.livejournal.com 2008-06-10 01:00 pm (UTC)(link)
Sob, yeah, that's true. I don't touch the wank, I just -- genuinely used to enjoy reading the secrets, and telling people who had intelligent secrets and who weren't obvious trolls that I agreed or disagreed with them. And now I do it out of momentum. XD Since those people don't exist anymore.

[identity profile] skyrend.livejournal.com 2008-06-10 01:36 am (UTC)(link)
I find myself bored by that community most of the time. Either it's vague, cryptic things directed at specific people because they don't have the balls to just say something to the person they have a problem with, or it's tons of, "I'd ship it."
ext_52683: (Default)

[identity profile] kay-willow.livejournal.com 2008-06-10 01:03 pm (UTC)(link)
Unless "I ship it" is qualified, like, "but I'm ashamed of shipping an incest pairing" or "but everyone on my flist thinks that this pairing is only shipped by stupid teenieboppers" ((use word no one uses today: CHECK)) I think these secrets should all be brought before a firing squad. I could write I ship it secrets about things I ship that might be a little oddball but that isn't a secret like all fucking day and night. Liking a pairing is not, innately, a secret.

[livejournal.com profile] technophile is basically a troll. I think that may be part of the problem.

You're right though, I think it has gotten less interesting than it used to be. Things tend to do that when they get really big...

[identity profile] kay-willow.livejournal.com 2008-06-10 01:04 pm (UTC)(link)
XD ...well, that explains that. ♥

[identity profile] nadriel.livejournal.com 2008-06-10 01:12 pm (UTC)(link)
Hi, just found you by hitting the random journal button, discovered that there's several interests in common, and was wondering if you minded me friending you?

[identity profile] kay-willow.livejournal.com 2008-06-11 03:02 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, I don't mind at all, go right ahead! The more the merrier, I guess. :D

[identity profile] yami-chan.livejournal.com 2008-06-10 03:40 pm (UTC)(link)
You just basically said everything I've been thinking recently! Get out of my head, woman! XD

But yeah, I barely frequent f!s anymore. It started out as a joke for the mods I think so I'm not surprised by their behavior. But I wouldn't care if the secrets weren't so lame. If it is obvious that you are the poster to your friends, then it is not a secret. I read it mostly for the wank secrets/wank inducing secrets. They're good for the lulz and that's basically what f!s is all about these days.

[livejournal.com profile] technophile's 'censorship' is down to his odd sense of humour (and also because, as noted above, he's a troll).
