Baaa user interests?! Meme sheep is memey!

Comment and I'll list 7 interests from your profile in a reply. Then you do an entry/comment about what they mean and why you are interested in them. [livejournal.com profile] sorceressakemi picked...

1. fucking cows in retrospect
Line from a retarded flash video, featuring an EXTREEEEEME Bugs Bunny parody. It's a lot of cursing and EXTREEEEEMEness, but the last line is "You fuck cows in retrospect!" which is -- such a bizarre and hilarious thing to say, my roommates and I immediately put it into our interests list.

2. sinister ducks
This is another line from something, this time a song called "March of the Sinister Ducks". This song is hilarious and really spreads awareness of the sinister nature of ducks. They'll smirk at your hairstyle, wearing their plaid jackets, and sleep with your wife! Those web-footed fascists even force old ladies to throw them bread, I heard.

3. subaseka
Subaseka is the Japanese shorthand for Subarashiki Kono Sekai/The World Ends With You, everyone's favorite game featuring clones of Kingdom Hearts characters! I like this game because it's very unique in tone and gameplay, and it has a tremendous character evolution story that really connects with me. The music is terrible though.

4. scrapped princess
Awesome, awesome, awesome anime with gorgeous animation. In a fantasy setting (...or is it?), your heroine is Pacifica, the poison who will destroy the world. Her adopted siblings are trying to save her from the hordes of people who want to kill her before she can turn 16 and kill everyone else, but deep down Pacifica isn't sure she should be saved. After all, if she's really supposed to destroy the world... I highly recommend this series to everyone. Everywhere.

5. neku/joshua
From Subaseka, Neku is your main character who starts out the Game hating everyone, and Joshua is his partner for the second week of the game -- an effeminate giggling boy who keeps making sly comments about staring at Neku's ass interspersed with his total manipulative bastardry. While I enjoy their relationship platonically probably more than as a couple, I can't stop enjoying the fact that Square-Enix is clearly aware of and encouraging the fangirl reaction to this pairing.

Also Neku tops, internet.

6. hinamori
Hinamori Momo is a character in Bleach. A bright and cheerful girl who was taken in by the most brilliant con artist in the series. People think Hinamori is a weak-willed idiot for being fooled, but she just picked the wrong guy to fall in love with. :\ But I love her relationships with her friends (Renji and Kira's little ringleader) (Hitsugaya's crush) (Nanao's bookworm buddy) and I love her potential. I played her ([livejournal.com profile] truthward) at an RP for several months.

7. megami kouhosei
Megami Kouhosei, Candidate for Goddess, is a manga (the anime is much more bland) series that I was desperately in love with for like 2-3 years. I still have a good number of friends from that fandom -- friends I became really close with, which doesn't seem to happen anymore on the internet and I don't know why.

Anyway, it's a sci-fi series about a boy named Zero who goes to the Goddess Operator Academy to become a Goddess Pilot -- the Goddesses being five giant mecha. But the Goddesses aren't just robots; unknown to most people, they're alive, and they seem to have a strong connection to Zero and his hated rival Hiead. Also, Zero's partner/mysterious spiritual sister is a really hot catgirl.

Tragically, MK was never completed and it looks like the mangaka (D.N.Angel's creator Sugisaki Yukiru) may not pick it up again. Sigh.

Also Neku tops, internet.

Suddenly I want that- badly. I can see it mentally (after a few years) and I want more fic of it.

Also, my interests suck- don't pick me? XD

Lover's Song III will have some attempt at that. I definitely think he could and would, once he was in his comfort zone. And that Joshua would like it.

Teehee, okay. It's really for losers with eighty interests, like me, anyway. XD

I think mine are mostly obvious, but oh man, Candidate for Goddess. DNAngel finally restarted, did you know? Early this year. But I miss Candidate for Goddess and all the stuff surrounding it. I'm not sure I want to start reading DNAngel again unless she finishes it, though, because, well, Sugisaki.

[identity profile] slayerofgod.livejournal.com 2008-06-19 07:32 pm (UTC)(link)
5. The mentioned fanservice is what's really keeping me away from that game. I mean, every one of my friends who have played it are raving about it, (http://randomnpc.com/2008/04/30/the-world-ends-with-you-official-staff-review/) but I can't get the image of Nomura laughing at everyone who's fangirling all over this pairing out of my head, especially since they think he's laughing with them. It really irritates me. D:

7. Candidate For Goddess has a manga? Sweet. I was in love with that show back when it was on Adult Swim, and it did seem fairly rushed in its execution.

I'll take a go on the meme.

Your interests are good! I heard that DNAngel had restarted, and I expect I'd be lynched for saying this, but I think it's a real shame she favors that project over MK. From my exposure to DNAngel and MK respectively, I feel like MK was the stronger series. :\ Also, Kizna was totally hot.

1. cactus x pet rock
2. cranky mages
3. doomed spy love

[identity profile] kay-willow.livejournal.com 2008-06-19 08:10 pm (UTC)(link)
I know people have gotten that impression, but I genuinely don't think he's laughing at anyone. The way that it's handled makes me think that he is simply acknowledging a cultural reality and poking fun at his own material, not the fans. He's no more making fun of them than he's making fun of himself (he and several other staff members appear as a Tin Pin geek in the game). So unless he's laughing at himself, what a loser!, I don't think you can take some of what happens in Another Side as "Those stupid fangirls, I own their souls!" It's like finding misogynistic symbolism in X-Men 3 playing the game with blinders: you can't tell me only some of the mockery is done sneeringly, and the rest of the mockery is done in good spirits.

MK the manga is soooo much better. And the art is truly, truly beautiful. I recently went back and saw my artbook stuff for it and it's dazzling -- way better than the mediocre-quality animation of the anime.

Unfortunately, Tokyopop bought the manga, and their translation job is terrible, so. Ehe.

[identity profile] voicing.livejournal.com 2008-06-19 09:32 pm (UTC)(link)
Besides, fanservice like this has been around for ages. Throwing bones to fans and even playing around with such ideas as long as they work within the media has been around since film and TV began. As for Nomura and his crew, I think they knows full well that fans are going to pair the characters and make outlandish theories no matter what, so why not join in on the fun and maybe get some free publicity at the same time? David Shore and the House M.D. crew do the exact same thing, and I know other shows, writers and directors with a fanbase do as well.

On the other hand, if those people were laughing AT the fanbase and/or flipping the bird at them, it would show immensely (see For Better or For Worse). So I can see where [livejournal.com profile] slayerofgod is coming from on that respect. I don't think you have to worry about it with TWEWY, though.

Misogynistic symbolism in X-Men 3? What?

[identity profile] ladycrysiana.livejournal.com 2008-06-19 09:32 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't know; I really liked them both, but I fell in love with DNAngel, and I don't really tend to go over the actual story of series I like. I thought DNAngel was sort of meandering, though, which probably had a lot to do with whatever problems caused her to drop it for a few years. Also, yes.

[identity profile] soi.livejournal.com 2008-06-19 11:30 pm (UTC)(link)
I think I still kind of mourn the loss of MK on a daily basis.

[identity profile] soi.livejournal.com 2008-06-19 11:32 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, and I'll do this meme if you still feel like tagging people?

[identity profile] haruomi.livejournal.com 2008-06-20 01:32 am (UTC)(link)
This meme seems like so much fun, not to mention your answers are just too hilarious for words. (OMG, I read Megami Kouhosei too! I loved it. Absolutely loved it. The anime… It just sort of pales in comparison, doesn’t it?

Scrapped Princess, I don’t really know much about. My best friend was the president of our school’s Anime Club and they were showing that for a while, but I was never able to watch it myself.) It’s too bad that my interests are so… normal. D:

[identity profile] slayerofgod.livejournal.com 2008-06-20 02:19 am (UTC)(link)
Noted.

Can I get in on that meme? :D

[identity profile] sakusha.livejournal.com 2008-06-20 04:57 am (UTC)(link)
Go for my interests. :)

[identity profile] sakusha.livejournal.com 2008-06-20 06:46 am (UTC)(link)
I think what with all the Sexual Tension there is between Jean and Logan, culminating in the whole, "I love you! (stab)" moment, it could be construed as sexual, and therefore placing Wolverine in the sexually dominant position when he stabs her. I thought it was sexist because so many of the female characters couldn't handle living with their powers, or were or had to be de-powered.

[identity profile] fiannan.livejournal.com 2008-06-20 12:19 pm (UTC)(link)
Do me, do me! *coughs* Ahem.

Always nice to see Momo getting some love. The fandom's so mean to her most of the time. Poor girl ♥

Glad you like. XD Although sadly I recognize most of your interests, except like... "red-haired shanks" and "silver diamond".

And yes MK. I remember the good old days of Dual Potential with fondness. The anime isn't bad, but it manages to completely avoid greatness -- it can't replicate the humor or the beauty of the manga, and then around episode nine it just goes off into its own plot that makes no sense, while the manga goes into totally awesome intensity.

I recommend Scrapped Princess to eeeeeveryoooone. I guarantee you'll love every character in it. I know I did, which almost never happens. XD

Guess I'll have to pick up Subaseka after all. I mean, once I finish Odin Sphere, Persona 3, Nocturne, and DDS I and II.

Ahhh, Megami Kouhosei, you hurt my heart. Not least because "The Theatre" will never be completed either. :(

Wouldn't mind doing this meme, though I recently removed any obscure interests I had, I think. XD;
