Poor Shuuhei gets the boring fight.
Ikkaku's entrance was hilarious and his opponent is clearly awesome ("Pray? Do you shinigami even have a god?") ("........I GUESS NOT ASDLKDJFDSG >D" I love you Ikkaku) and Yumichika made me laugh. D, don't try fighting with your eyes closed, honey...! Kira's opponent made me laugh with his flailing and then oooh when he whipped out Gin's name and Kira tweaked. That was nothing short of brilliant. Go, go, Kira! Show them you have spine!
...and then Shuuhei's fight looks like it'll be preeeeetty boring.
Also, Soifon, you win for that. XD Serious diss combined with total but plausible lie.
Random, but it's convenient that so far, Ikkaku and Yumichika's opponents aren't interested in who they are. I imagine if they hadn't all conveniently gotten opponents who matched or contrasted their style (e.g. the one who gets ruffled when told he's not pretty fights Yumichika) and they had winded up with an opponent interested in their official rank, there would have been disappointment. "I'M SUPPOSED TO FIGHT A FIFTH-SEAT?" etc. There's still time for them to ask, but since the half who didn't ask this chapter were fighting the half who weren't lieutenants, it stuck out.
Although, KT, the fact that everyone else got an opponent matching or contrasting their style only makes Shuuhei's boring opponent draw more attention to the fact that we know hardly anything about what he's like.
I'm not looking forward to what'll probably amount to thirty chapters of distraction from the main characters, but eh, that's manga for you.
