Pandering! The VP for not you and not me

Oh wow, Senator McCain. You gave me some condescension for my birthday! That was awful nice of you, but you didn't have to. No amount of persons with vaginas on your ticket will make me consider voting for you.

Also:

[livejournal.com profile] kay_willow: (quoting [livejournal.com profile] apapazukamori) one of her other kids is named Track.
[livejournal.com profile] kay_willow: Track, Bristol, Willow, Piper, Trig.
[livejournal.com profile] wy1d: O_o she.....
[livejournal.com profile] wy1d: doesn't sound very.............you know, republican
[livejournal.com profile] kay_willow: What if I tell you she's pro-oil, pro-life, and anti-gay?
[livejournal.com profile] wy1d: There we go.

[identity profile] katisconfused.livejournal.com 2008-08-29 04:11 pm (UTC)(link)
OH THANK GOD IT'S NOT ROMNEY

[identity profile] apapazukamori.livejournal.com 2008-08-29 04:15 pm (UTC)(link)
I was just thinking those kids' names look like she chose them using magnetic poetry, or something. Or an Ouija board.

[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/_debbiechan_/ 2008-08-29 07:26 pm (UTC)(link)

ROTFLMAO, I was thinking the same thing! HAHAHAHAHAHA.

And yeah, pro-oil, pro-life, and anti-gay. No genitalia can hide that.

[identity profile] kay-willow.livejournal.com 2008-08-30 07:36 am (UTC)(link)
And anti-evolution! I almost forgot that part.

SIGH

[identity profile] j-mccain.livejournal.com 2008-08-29 04:27 pm (UTC)(link)
You're welcome!

[identity profile] jougetsu.livejournal.com 2008-08-29 04:51 pm (UTC)(link)
Pandering: the gift that keeps on giving until it finally pisses everyone off.

I'm wondering who McCain expects to vote for him considering most Republicans aren't very enthused about him and they're not likely to be reassured by this VP pick.

[identity profile] maladaptive.livejournal.com 2008-08-29 05:22 pm (UTC)(link)
That's what I was thinking. I mean, Palin is a smart move in comparison to Biden (it might attract the people still waffling between the candidates, for example), but... people already think McCain is too left! I wonder if the gains made with Palin outweigh the people he pisses off.

Then again, it's not like those people have many other options, other than not voting.

[identity profile] jougetsu.livejournal.com 2008-08-29 04:59 pm (UTC)(link)
PS Did you want a birthday drabble from one of our mutual fandoms? ^__^

[identity profile] kay-willow.livejournal.com 2008-08-30 07:40 am (UTC)(link)
That would be absolutely lovely ♥ Do you pick, or should I brainstorm prompts, or?

[identity profile] jougetsu.livejournal.com 2008-08-31 03:39 am (UTC)(link)
You pick, birthday girl! Prompt away!

[identity profile] abrogate-nadir.livejournal.com 2008-08-29 05:05 pm (UTC)(link)
I used to like McCain, way back when. Now, just...just blurf, you know? I'm not American, mind you, but I still follow these things.

[identity profile] kay-willow.livejournal.com 2008-08-30 07:41 am (UTC)(link)
I used to like McCain, too. :\ Ages ago, when he had radically different stances on everything and wasn't a Bush clone. I don't know what happened to him, but it's a tragedy.

[identity profile] sakusha.livejournal.com 2008-08-29 05:33 pm (UTC)(link)
HAPPY BIRTHDAY ANYWAY!

Also, Barack Obama's Youtube channel posted his acceptance speech:

http://jp.youtube.com/user/barackobamadotcom?ob=4

Good quality. The music worked a lot better with the video about him before it IMHO.

And something very small to point out - Barack Obama has a better and more topical Youtube channel than John McCain. :| It's a small thing but it's really an important tool for connecting with the current generation.

[identity profile] ladycrysiana.livejournal.com 2008-08-29 05:56 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh thank god I can comment to someone who understands. My mom and I have been trying to explain to dad that just picking up a woman for a ticket won't make ALL WHITE WOMEN in the Democratic Party vote for John McCain, but it isn't taking. I would try to point out to him that sensible women who would have voted for Senator Clinton will look at Palin's position on abortion (at least) and decide that this is not someone they want to elect.

[identity profile] kay-willow.livejournal.com 2008-08-30 07:43 am (UTC)(link)
I really don't understand how any woman who has the brain cell count to press the button won't see that Palin is the anti Hillary. Voting for McCain instead of Obama because you think you're sending some sort of message? I'm not just a Vagina-American, you guys. There are issues that are important to me that go beyond genitalia.

Speaking of which, Samantha Bee said it best on tonight's Daily Show. (Albeit backwards, of course.)

[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/_debbiechan_/ 2008-08-29 07:27 pm (UTC)(link)

Happy birthday!

LOL at McCain.

[identity profile] kay-willow.livejournal.com 2008-08-30 07:44 am (UTC)(link)
Thank you~ I share a birthday with John McCain and Michael Jackson. It's... awesome. Sob. XD

[identity profile] rosesnrubies.livejournal.com 2008-08-29 07:31 pm (UTC)(link)
You forgot anti-NASA! Or maybe that's just how I divide them up. One's going to put my friends out of business, one's going to put me out of business (defense!) I hate election years...

And, Happy Birthday to you!!! *birthday spanking*
:-o
Scandalous.

[identity profile] kay-willow.livejournal.com 2008-08-30 07:44 am (UTC)(link)
Oh my. :O /shake

I wish I could help your dilemma there. XD

[identity profile] wy1d.livejournal.com 2008-09-01 09:17 pm (UTC)(link)
Which one puts Ziggy out of business? *takes notes *

[identity profile] rosesnrubies.livejournal.com 2008-09-02 04:00 am (UTC)(link)
Haha... Zig works in defense :) But don't you go pickin' on him! ;)

[identity profile] sorceressakemi.livejournal.com 2008-08-29 08:57 pm (UTC)(link)
Bah, McCain. XP

Happy birthday, though. :D Would you like a drawing?

Eee, arts are shiny?? :D

[identity profile] hashire.livejournal.com 2008-08-29 10:45 pm (UTC)(link)
I've always thought Piper was a cute name, but lol, talk about an unknown. Lol at the thought of a debate between her and Biden. He'd probably kick her ass, but we really don't know much about her, anyway.

ALSO HAPY BIRFDAY.
ext_52683: (Default)

[identity profile] kay-willow.livejournal.com 2008-08-30 07:47 am (UTC)(link)
HOORAY THANK YOU :D

I desperately want these people to debate. Obama the Compelling Speaker vs McCain the Robot Candidate, and Palin the 20-month Politician vs Biden the 36-year Senate Champion.

Piper is a cute name, but is Bristol something you would name any child, much less a female child? And why would you name your son with Down's syndrome "Trig" unless you hated him?

BY THE WAY, did you ever see the first round of scanslations we did off your scans?

[identity profile] hashire.livejournal.com 2008-08-31 01:52 am (UTC)(link)
The thing is some people might think that he won't go at her because she's a fragile little woman and that would make him seem mean. Ohnoes.

LOL wait he has Down's. That makes it more lol than ever.

NO, I haven't. I also scanned more of the book for you but haven't gotten around to cropping and rotating them because my laptop cord is being stupid and I have to hold it for the battery to charge, and that makes it hard to do stuff.

[identity profile] kay-willow.livejournal.com 2008-08-31 08:25 am (UTC)(link)
No rush, we're taking our sweet time with the translating, too. ([livejournal.com profile] libekory is back in classes, hur. Since I am Photoshop retarded, this means there's no point in translating too far ahead. :D ) I'll try and keep you up to date on our progress, nag you if I really can't do anything without this particular bit of furigana, and if there's anything in particular you're curious about, you can go ahead and nag us to do that first. It's your book!

[identity profile] hashire.livejournal.com 2008-08-31 08:45 am (UTC)(link)
I try to scan things to show the words the best, not the images, really. I'll always look over things to make sure the inner part isn't blurry or unreadable, just so someone can read it, even if I can't.

I'm working on cropping more stuff right now. I left a note on the translation post about how much stuff there is in there. I'm almost finished with what I've got, and I might scan more tomorrow after work, if I feel like it.

[identity profile] kay-willow.livejournal.com 2008-08-31 05:05 pm (UTC)(link)
That's really helpful. The pretty pictures are good, but not nearly as important as the kanji. The only page so far where I'm having problems reading something is on page 208, on Kanda's early sketch -- on the bottom left it says "JC" and over the JC there's a lot of really tiny furigana and because of how tiny they are, they came out very pale and impossible to make out on my copy......... and I just figured out what it was from context, it's totally "Jump Comics," okay. SO YEAH, WE APPRECIATE IT. :D

That sure is a lot of pages on their Innocence.

[identity profile] hashire.livejournal.com 2008-08-31 05:58 pm (UTC)(link)
I can try to scan it for you again, but I don't know if it'll look better or not, haha. I'll try lata.

Inorite. I just need to put things in order now and then I'll zip and up for you.
ext_52683: (Default)

[identity profile] kay-willow.livejournal.com 2008-08-31 06:13 pm (UTC)(link)
Thanks for all your hard work. ♥ No need to worry about rescanning Kanda's page, it was just tricksy furigana, and now that I've figured it out, it's not like anyone will know the difference, since we're just gonna erase it and replace it with words we can read, la.

[identity profile] jougetsu.livejournal.com 2008-08-31 03:46 am (UTC)(link)
When I worked for Royal Doulton I learned that we had a mug mold that was named "Bristol Beaker." I can no longer think of "Bristol" without thinking of those mugs.

For visual reference:
http://cgi.ebay.com.au/HARTINGTON-Bristol-Beaker-Royal-Albert_W0QQitemZ150140676096QQihZ005QQcategoryZ4227QQcmdZViewItemQQ_trksidZp1742.m153.l1262

Although at least for us it made sense because RD was an English company and Bristol is a city in England, what's Palin's excuse?

(please don't tell me it's one of those "we named it where it was conceived teehee!" things >__< )

[identity profile] poisonangel7.livejournal.com 2008-08-30 01:57 am (UTC)(link)
My co-worker was obsessed with finding her kid's names after hearing one was named Track. It was intense. We were not disappointed with the rest. Crazy Alaskans...

Apparently, she also smoked pot when it was legal in Alaska, but didn't like it. This gave me two thoughts. 1) When the hell was it legal in Alaska? And, clearly, she did it wrong... I think she did it at least 5 times.

[identity profile] poisonangel7.livejournal.com 2008-08-30 01:58 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, and Happy Birthday!
ext_52683: (Default)

[identity profile] kay-willow.livejournal.com 2008-08-30 07:48 am (UTC)(link)
XD Those are fair points. I also pointed out that she enjoys mooseburgers, which is clearly un-American. Obama should use that in his campaigns. No charge, sir.

And thank you for the birthday wishes. :D
