Updates from beyooond

More people on my flist who write DGM fic should participate in this~ The people who've done it previously to October are being slooow (I'm the only person who finished a September fic) so new blood plz. Do it because you might get awesome fic from me about your favorite pairings. *sparkle*

Now back to video game binge. We played MGS: Guns of the Patriots yesterday (EVA just fed us lots of backstory) and are buying Silent Hill 5 today, if all goes well. :3

Fics: Mission Debriefing, DGM, Lavi/Allen. Short little thing for [livejournal.com profile] apapazukamori to make her feel better. ♥

Another Side: In Which There Is A War Council, KH. Buckling down and dealing with the threat against Hollow Bastion.

I signed up for October even though I've never written anything by request before. XD It looked fun.

I saw that you did! ♥ I was excited to see you there. I totally know what I'm writing if I get you, lawl. XD

... Does it have any relation to your icon? XD

It's probably thanks to you I noticed the community, actually.

IT MIGHT. *kof*

My pet project is attempting to instill life into silly fic exchanges. :P If this one continues to fail, I may have to just arrange something else. I like the idea of having a method of getting motivation without being pressured, like... I always do drabble challenges, but I'm constantly hoping someone will request something I secretly want to write, and instead I either get things like "KANDA/ALLEN, PROMPT: WITHOUT YOU I WITHER AWAY" which is like the antithesis of what I want to write, or "LAVI/ALLEN, PROMPT: SILLY HATS!" which is something I'd want to write anyway and totally uninspiring. This method is pretty neat for me, because it means I can see what people want and pick a subject without feeling like I'm being bullied into writing stuff I don't want to write just to get motivation for things I do want to write.

...and that was an unnecessarily long and rambling response, perhaps.

I'm pretty sure I understand and agree with you, long and rambling or not! I was interested in doing something where I would have to write on request, but really specific requests are intimidating and this looked less of that and more fun. And has built-in motivation to finish, too.
It's a pity more people don't seem to be into it.

The other thing I was looking at recently was [livejournal.com profile] springkink -- where they have (extremely poorly-organized) requests that are specific, but you just pick the ones you want. I can pass over "Kanda/Allen: twu wuv" and "Lavi/Allen: silly fluff" and single out "Allen+Cross: thought-provoking prompt" or "Link/Allen: prompt that corresponds with my own view of their relationship"

But something about [livejournal.com profile] springkink just doesn't motivate me. Perhaps its terrible organization. XD Maybe if October at [livejournal.com profile] dgray_flashfic doesn't work out, I'd do something like that. "Give me four character/pairing: prompt sets, and we'll trade fics."

Terrible organisation does have a hand in these things. If I can't find detailed and understandable rules without looking really hard for them, I'll be too nervous to do anything, for example. XD

Yeah, it always really bugs me when rules aren't on or linked to from the community profile. :\ But my main gripe is this:

1) For some reason requests are associated with days. Like, there's some requests on June 16, and some requests on June 17, and some requests on June 18. What is the point of this? Are those deadlines? Why do I have to choose what day people have to write my fics by? If they just want to make sure posting doesn't happen in a giant burst, like 300 fics on the first of June, why not just give a range of days, like, "Second week of June, third week of June?" Why does it have to be one specific day? It seems weird.

2) Why in the name of god would you organize the requests by day? Does anybody really go into this thing thinking, "Man, I hope there's some good requests for June 21." Who the hell cares what day it's due/whatever on? If I'm going into this thing, I'm thinking, "What sort of D. Gray-man requests do they have?" And then I have to scan through 31 different sections on 6 different LJ posts in order to find all the DGM requests... And then, when I'm done, god forbid I should go, "Hey, I wonder if they have an KH or Bleach I'd like?" because then I have to do it again.

And if there's any better way of doing it, I sure don't know, because it doesn't say so anywhere.

Basically, what it boils down to is: very poorly organized. I'd rather do my own thing. :P I give it a slight leg up because I like having prompts -- "Komui+Lenalee" or "Cross/Cloud Nine" is not as inspirational as "Komui+Lenalee: how she finally got his blessings to date" or "Cross/Cloud Nine: too much of a good thing" -- but definite marks down for being opaque to outsiders.

See, I checked their profile for rules, and since they didn't have any, I didn't even go any further. There is much to be said for doing one's own thing, certainly! And I agree on prompts, too (especially if they're things that haven't been done a million times before).
