Laptop madness! Debt is debt is debt

So I have three laptops -- a full-sized second-hand Dell laptop, a full-sized Sony Vaio laptop, and a tiny paperback-sized Eee PC. The Dell stopped turning on a while back, so I pulled the Vaio out of retirement. It had power problems -- the battery doesn't charge (it lasts about five minutes on battery power and then abruptly without warning shuts off) and the cord has to be wiggled extensively before it recognizes it has an A/C adapter plugged in.

Then the Vaio stopped recognizing it had an A/C adapter plugged in, period.

Even though I am unemployed, I decided to go ahead and buy a new laptop. It's monthly payments, with no interest for six months, so if I get a job at any point in the next six months I can instantly pay off the balance and feel good about it. If I don't get a job, I can instantly pay off the balance anyway, but feel less good about it -- although frankly, if I'm still unemployed in six months, I'll have much bigger problems than that. l, lol? *pompoms [livejournal.com profile] tsaiko for helping with the resume!*

Whatever I'm getting a new laptop. A good one, too. Video card and all. For like $800. Not bad, however you look at it. And now that I know what hypothetically kills A/C adapter ports (the power brick pulling on the port) I can try and avoid it to lengthen the life of the stupid laptop.

If you knew anyone who had a Vaio, I might suggest trying out an alternate adapter. The piece-o-junk craptop I used to use had the same battery/charger problem, but I ended up buying an offbrand adapter for it that eliminated the need for jiggling the cord. It sounds like the adapter's wiring was just messed up.

The new laptop would be nice, but the adapter thing would be a cheaper solution if you're willing to try it.

I was glad I could help!
