Ichigo has psychic powers when it comes to Orihime in danger (he probably shouldn't have heard the fabric tear, but technically, this isn't the first time; the nightmare about her, the night Ulquiorra took her...) and was practically foaming at the mouth trying to get to her. And -- he wasn't interested in hearing Ulquiorra psychologically deconstruct her. My fangirl heart squeezes a bit.

Also, wtf four Arrancar versus [Orihime and] Ichigo? Ishida, you better get here soon, bitch.

It's the same as his rabid reaction when Ulquiorra said that he was the one who kidnapped her. He dropped his steady pace to find Rukia and turned around like a madman to attack him. Protective!Ichigo makes my heart go pitterpatter... as much as protective!Orihime.

On second thought, though, he shouldn't have heard the fabric tear if he didn't hear the girls talking to Orihime... Psychic powers win~

It has to be with some authorial intent by this point, as opposed to Chad, who just vanished. But Ishida is downright conspicuous in his unexplained absence. He's not downstairs with Rukia and Renji and Chad fighting off the Exchequias or whatever they are, and he's not upstairs with Orihime and Ichigo. He's nowhere.

My conclusion is that either he's dying, or he's on his way to take part in the Ichigo/Orihime fight.

I'm sure that Ichigo will, after getting badly beaten up trying to protect Orihime, unlock even greater power in some fashion or other.

Mind you, I'm also wondering if Orihime isn't going to get a "must protect Ichigo and not feel helpless" power boost of her own. She's about due one...

I hope this chapter proves to people that while Ichigo is naturally protective of all his friends, he is especially devoted to protecting Orihime. Every time she's in danger he becomes completely psychotic, forgoing all logic and forgetting entirely what it was he was previously doing, no matter how important it might have been.

The "he doesn't care about Orihime" schtick makes no sense now more than ever.
