Client wars! The essential chat!

I've been really frustrated with Pidgin because it crashes so often, for no damn reason. And by often I mean typically twice or more every night, just randomly, while I'm in the middle of typing and not doing anything impressive, or when I'm not even into the window, I'll just tab back and find that at some point Pidgin died and a few seconds later it crashes.

I'd love to switch to Digsby, but Digsby

first you gotta

support fucking AIM chat

I am never, ever, ever going to use Digsby until I can enter an AIM chat there. But when I can, I will throw Pidgin in the trash.

Edit for my LACK OF HTML SKILL.

Curious question-- is there a reason you don't use individual messengers? And if you want AIM, have you tried AIM Express? I think it can enter chats. Bit wonky, though. I have also heard about this thing called Meebo that I have no idea wtf is but I HAVE HEARD THINGS...

Both Pidgin and Digsby log your conversations on multiple services. I like being able to pull up an AIM log or a Google Talk log with the same search feature, and they have tabbed windows, so I can talk to someone on Gtalk and two people on AIM and it's just one window. Aside from the inconvenience of having to run multiple programs when I could run one, I'd have a more difficult time juggling logs and managing my taskbar space. (I'm very possessive of my taskbar space skfjflg.)

I used Meebo at work, since I didn't exactly want to store porn RP logs on my work computer, lol. It wasn't very polished last I tried it and I'm not sure if it does chatrooms.

Ohhh, that makes sense.

I hope they work, or that you find another alternative! I don't know anymore offhand.

Wow I'm smart, NOT REPLYING TO COMMENT AND ALL.

God, Trillian is giving me shit about entering AIM chats, I had to DL Pidgin JUST for chats. I don't like it, no sir.

I wish I could suggest something better than both. I use Adium (for mac) but normally I just use native AIM since I don't have any other kinds of messengers.

Chats are always shaky though, native or through a third party.

I use Trillian and have never had real problems with AIM chat. The only drawback I find is that I can't join one on my own. If someone invites me, it works just fine. If I try to join one on my own and then try to get invited, it fails. >.>; But otherwise, nothing seems better for chat other than the official AIM client. Go figure.

We will be adding group chat in the near future. It is a highly requested feature.
