Alice in Wonderland: A commentary
Saw Alice in Wonderland! Great, fun movie, beautiful too. I had a lot of fun with it and I loved Alice in armorrrrr.
Non-spoiler thoughts: Everyone in that movie had a really fancy name that I could completely not make out. In fact, a fair amount of dialogue I had some trouble hearing. This movie would do well with a closed-captioned DVD viewing.
Johnny Depp is great, as usual, although there's little tangible difference to me between his Hatter and his Wonka, but the Cheshire Cat way out-cooled him. Alice is a very nice young man, but that can't compare to "Goodbye, sweet hat..." Although I don't see why everyone obsesses over the Hatter in the first place.
I kept waiting, literally every move the White Queen made, for her to turn out to be almost as bad as the Red Queen. "This is where she reveals she doesn't care enough to wage war." "This is where she reveals she wants to whitewash the world and make it all pure enough for her." "Holy shit did she just imply she experimented on the dead I can't wait for us to hear more about that!" But they never did. :(
Liked what they did with the ending. So many people make the choice she did, without anything like a good reason.
So yeah. Great time, totally worth it, did NOT see it in 3D. I almost -- almost -- almost could RP Alice. But I would obviously have to reread some books, and I just don't see that happening. Also I already play Allen and lord knows I don't need more Victorian kids. She'd get fourth-walled so hard everywhere, though.
