Sake Express! Lost opportunities
This is part of my daily writing effort: I am going to tell you about Sake Express.
We were on the highway in Georgia or some state near it when we were ready to eat, so we pulled off and looked for the nearest Pizza Hut or something similarly mediocre. We saw a place, however, called Sake Express, and were curious about what manner of food that would be. They had a drive-thru, but we pulled in and went inside to check out the menu.
It turned out to be a hibachi place. Have you ever been to Benihana or anything? It's a restaurant where they grill up meat and rice and stuff right in front of you on a giant lat metal surface, and usually the chefs are pretty fancy, flipping the food around, making a big show of it, telling jokes... It's a little expensive, but they give you plenty of food (we always take some home), and part of the cost is probably embedded in the fact that it's part show.
Sake Express was that. Only it was a fast food restaurant. It was amazingly good, way faster than Benihana (where you often end up spending close to an hour and a half because the food is portioned out as part of the show, so it takes longer) and so cheap -- like 1/4th the price we would've paid for the same meal at fucking Benihana!
Fast food hibachi.
This is such a genius idea that it frustrates me that this place isn't a huge deal! Why aren't there Sake Expresses on every street corner?! It's healthy good food and it's fast and it's delicious!! But there's only like two in existence! I am deeply saddened by this experience. It almost makes me want to start up my own damn fast food hibachi restaurant.
There is a market here.
