Gameblogging: FFXIII-2 (for real)

As we're running along, going... somewhere... because. (I think we're going after Gadot, Yuj, and M... the other minion. The minions. But I'm not sure why.) Things start getting trippy and hallucinatory again. Noel assures Serah he can see it too.

Lebreau told everyone that Noel saved her. In the... half second between Noel setting her down and us running after these very same people, I guess.

Maqui has concluded that there are pockets of unstable time because "some spots seem to have sped forward centuries" and others have not. What the fuck, why is "Radiation or something" not a better option than "POCKETS OF UNSTABLE TIME"?

I seriously don't get it. He's just standing there with a gun, making wild assertions. And now one of your dialogue options implies that he's a brilliant guy who always correctly theorizes things, and... what? C'mon game. These guys did not have much unique characterization in FFXIII, and you took the opportunity to turn the youngest guy into a prodigy and the girl into a cook?

Correct me if I'm wrong on this, but that's what her As You Know Bob dialogue option tells me.

Maqui is our "mechanical genius". Naturally this also makes him good at all brain things. Because everyone knows if you can build a motorcyle, you are a nuclear physicist.

LIVE TRIGGER: My reactions to Noel and Maqui's genius conclusion that "different realities" are bleeding into ours because some fucking plant life is weird are:

"Where did the moogle come from?" Uhhh, what?
"Where are the monsters coming from?"
"Where did the meteorite come from?"
"Even you can't figure out what's going on?"

Man, these options are all so lame I don't even know which one to pick.

Starting to think they didn't really put much thought into some of the options. I'm pretty sure Sora told Serah that Lightning told him to give her the moogle/weapon or are there other moogles running about.

Also? SO, SO TIRED of everyone telling Serah to go home and curl up under her covers until everything's over.

Oh my fucking god, from my new vantage point I can see that there are literally just giant holes in the night sky that are showing other times and places.

This would have made Maqui's ridiculous commentary okay! Why didn't they show me this more clearly before now. I was just like, "Some trees are withered, others are not, therefore, reality is borked?"

Anyway, for all the nitpicking, I am enjoying myself so far. I don't have any major complaints. It's definitely not going to end up the best game in the world, I can already tell, but it is hasn't yet approached FFXIII levels of disapproval. I want to bang my head over a few of the game's early stumbles trying to dance around plot points, but it might just be the game making an awkward takeoff. Who knows.

I'm only, like, an hour in, but hey, what do you want.
