rainfall noticed on our map that we still haven't managed to get inside two of the rooms upstairs, so that's something.

NOPE, never mind. The game autosaved in the wrong place. We do have the key.

Have I mentioned that I hate autosave recently? It's never a good feeling to not have the ability to readily turn off a game, or to not be able to turn it off with any confidence that things will be as you left it.

I hate autosave.

As we leave the enclosure it starts to rain and monsters come swarming out of the woodwork, holy cow. I guess this is why you're told you can take shelter while it rains.

rainfall kills three of them with some difficulty and then heads back into the enclosure to go find a shorter-range weapon. She had a shovel and it wasn't as effective as her trusty frying pan.

That frying pan was awesome. I'm still sad I couldn't find the cleaver I saw in a drawer.

For the record: guide says the best "short" weapon is the crowbar. (And the fireaxe is the best "long" weapon.)

Over the river and through the woods, to Devil's Pit Tram we go!

We are now taking a tram. There's a pretty pretty cutscene of the gorge.

Objective: Find a way into town.

As opposed to what I assume would be a person's normal reaction to Silent Hill, which is "HOW DO WE GET OUT OF THIS TOWN?"

We find a kitchen and there's a frying pan in it. We trade our frying pan for this one. Maybe the durability is better, idk!

In the kitchen is a TV displaying static. There's a "Switch Off" option. When you do it, the TV is still on, and there's still a "Switch Off" option. Do it like 3-4 times and the TV explodes! \o/

There appears to be a whoooooole lot of blood around the bathtub here. Always a fun accent.

We got a lighter! That's probably going to be useful for something!

We got an axe, but keep having to use it to bust open boarded-up doors. Game! Why do you make durability for good weapons hard?!

We go to admire the waterfall and cliff, and there's a dude here! Whaaaat?

He says, "This used to be a real tourist attraction." His name is JP and he starts to give Murphy the whole tour. Uh, no. Someone just tried to kill me.

"...First time visitor, huh?" says JP. lol, only one person tried to kill you? Newb.

He tells Murphy to go get on a train, and Murphy asks JP to lead him there, but JP "has got someplace to be."

He is going to throw himself right off this cliff, isn't he. I am waiting for it.

If you put change into the binoculars, you can see another tram that's stopped midway up the tram.

And then a bloody hand slams against the glass and slowly trails down the window.

Monsters dragging the body of another inmate. My friends have great luck.

We get to an extremely rickety bridge and Murphy falls through it. Then what is essentially a QTE to climb up out of it. I think that's fun!

Oooh, and how realistic! Murphy lost the weapon he was holding when he almost fell, and maybe some of his other inventory items.

Murphy keeps having to sidle through very tight cave walls and stuff, with weird camera angles, and I keep thinking, "This is my hole! It was made for meeee!"

Some water and box puzzling later, we're in an elevator and -- AHHHHH it sounds like there's a monster on top of it and then it falls AHHHHH

Creepy children's laughter! Classic.

A minute later we find an article about how 8 children were killed in the mine when a train derailed. And that JP was the train's operator. And that he was drunk.

JP is a winner.

AHHH GIANT NEW MONSTER

Okay, battered it to death, found a ladder, climbed it. Jumping at noises and such.

Hey, it's JP staring ominously over a railing over a cliff again--

Whoops, no, he's on the other side of the railing, he's going to jump.

JP swears that it was an accident and that he didn't murder anybody.

Murphy is still kind of hedgy at him and protective of the kids, talking about how their parents felt, IT'S YOUR FAULT, THEY SAW YOU, WITNESSES SAID YOU WERE DRUNK.

Suddenly the voiceover whispers "Is there anybody out there?" and then music plays.

It's pretty music... Creepy Silent Hilly music, but pretty...

The hammer is highly effective!
