RECAP! Last episode on Tales of Code Geass, Emperor Lelouch was all yandere for Suzaku and Suzaku was like, wtf, Lelouch?! You are helping me by killing everyone who matters to me. And Lelouch was all "I know! Just like you wanted!"

Then Marianya arrives to try and beat sense into him, but Lelouch is so stunned that Suzaku would take his mother's side that he feels extra super betrayed and he erupts into darkness and glowy red eye, and we fight him with swords. Then Anya gets all her memories back.

Okay, so Hubert's creepy aide with no name, who

rainfall and I simultaneously nicknamed Jadia because Jade and Sodia's horrible bastard lovechild is just too long to keep using, is giving him a report on Lhant's situation.

Lhant's situation: Surrounded by enemies, everyone hates us.

Hubert basically tells Jadia to pretend the battle with Richard never happened. "You need not include those details in your report."

Jadia is not entirely fooled by Hubert's rationalizations for basically cooing and fussing over Lhant.

Jadia: You appear to be prioritizing the locals over the orders of our superiors...
Hubert: You only think that because you still consider me a wayward orphan from Lhant.
Jadia: ...Isn't that precisely what you are? /sneer

Hubert is, of course, still very hurt about being sold to the Oswells seven years ago. ;; Poor woobie.

Asbel: Even if your height and such haven't grown, you're still the same old Sophie to us.

Sophie still doesn't remember a lot of things. Where she was before she met Asbel; what happened after she last saw him seven years ago; where she came from... it worries her.

Asbel tells her that the past doesn't matter. Only the present does.

This philosophy = doesn't mesh very well with Cheria's desire to go back to the way things were when they were kids.

Back to Lhant. Which is a total wreck, wow.

People in Lhant are still being dicks to Asbel. That's good to know. I mean, we wouldn't want to have priorities or anything. Town is a wreck? Well, let's spurn the help of this guy because he ran away when he was eleven. Pride is way more important than doing something reckless like accept help when we're in shambles.

Asbel was contemplating leaving for good, and Cheria makes it sound like he's running away again, but fuck you.

She points out Hubert might be leaving too; she heard he's being recalled by Strahta. They're disappointed by all his mushy feelings for Lhant!!

Asbel is upset.

Cheria doesn't want them all to be separated again, and she runs off.

SIDEQUEST! Kerri wanted to see Hubert, and Hubert is barely listening. She knows he's angry at her and Lord Aston, but can't he at least forgive Asbel? Asbel had no idea Hubert was being sent away, and was so angry when he found out.

Hubert: Your favoritism is so obvious.
Kerri: What? I tried to raise you as equals--
Hubert: So I assume that when you had to choose which son to send away, there was a long, tearful discussion of the pros and cons of each of us?
Kerri: ...
Hubert: Yeah, that's what I thought. I was expendable.
Kerri: BUT WE DID IT BECAUSE--
Hubert: I am ending this conversation now.

I hope there's more of an excuse than "Because we didn't want you fighting" because that shit is bananas.

The dog in Lady Kerri's room tells me that she's been taking care of him ever since she lost both her boys, but even the dog finds her clingy and stifling. ...so this is both disturbing and sad.

Talking to Hubert. He confirms that he's been recalled, the order signed by "the president". Oooh, fancy. Anyway, it means he doesn't have any choice but to obey, and probably get stripped of his rank and banned from returning to Lhant.

Asbel asks if he really sacrificed all that for Lhant, and Hubert tsuns and denies it. IT'S JUST COMMON SENSE, GUYS.

Asbel grovels about how much awesomer Hubert is than him, and Hubert bitches about how Asbel is just insufferably arrogant. Yes yes, I get it. Asbel hates himself and Hubert is bitter.

Asbel volunteers to go to Strahta and basically buy time for Hubert to do more here in Lhant. Hubert is mystified by this stupid act, but at length writes a letter for Asbel to deliver to the president.

Asbel: So you're accepting my proposal?

Don't believe that until you've read the letter he wrote, honey.

Hubert: /doesn't answer /turns away
Hubert: And be careful around Mr. Oswald. Don't ask for his help, no matter what.

Way to make your foster dad sound like a predator. (unsure) Hubert says that he's first and foremost a businessman. So ask for help = YOUR PAYMENT IS THE GREATEST PRICE I CAN TAKE FROM YOU devil's deal here, I'm sensing.

Cheria overhears Hubert and Jadia discussing the recall order.

Hubert explains the situation, and Jadia is mostly just pissed off that he's not going to get to replace Hubert as the military governor of Lhant.

I see what you did there, Jadia. I see.

Hubert: I don't care if you're pissed off, bitch. This is what's best for Strahta. Or do you think the Oswell family's name should come first, cousin Raymond?

Aww, man, Hubert, did you just give Jadia a name? Goddamnit, that means we're going to see him more, and he's so disturbing to look at.

It does explain a little of why Jadia is so pissed off about Hubert the Lhant orphan being so awesome at everything and getting all the special treatment. I mean, it would make sense if it weren't so personal, but if he's an Oswell, it's personal too.

Jadia starts shouting at the empty room about how Hubert is a horrible ungrateful brat and Jadia is the one who really cares about the Oswalds and he MUST DESTROY THAT LETTER.

Cheria overhears him, because of his shouting, and is caught. Uh-oh! Jadia has her by the Standard Female Grab Area! She's helpless.

He recognizes her and plots.

MEANWHILE, TWO FEET AWAY OUTSIDE THE FRONT DOOR...

Asbel meets up with his team and tells them that we're heading to Strahta. (Okay, he asks politely, because he's a wuss and doesn't understand that he's in an RPG.)

Asbel: Has anyone seen Cheria?

Jadia: Did someone ask for evil smarm?

Asbel: Ew.

Jadia: She was caught eavesdropping on military secrets. Do my bidding to convince me to pardon her.

Hubert: Do you think I am completely retarded?

Jadia: Crap.

Hubert: Tell me where Cheria is, now. Or I put your clumsy blackmail attempt and attempt to steal the mail of a superior officer into your file.

Jadia: /...STABS SELF

Oh okay.

Hubert will deal with him; we have to go find Cheria. I don't see why Hubert doesn't just kick him and leave him to die. I guess some military protocol is involved or something.

SKIT! Malik and Asbel are deep in conversation about Oswell's reputation. He's a hardcore businessman. Asbel wants to help Hubert with him, so--

Pascal: Uh, Cheria was kidnapped?

Trust our lesbian to remember that a female character needs help. Malik is dutifully reminded and concedes that they should look for Cheria, but Asbel kind of has zero reaction.

Ooh, Cheria. This was a blow for your ship. I think Hubert/Cheria just became > Asbel/Cheria.

Cheria is being held in a cabin a short distance outside the town. She is no longer being grabbed by her Standard Female Grab Area, so she's able to wriggle out of her bonds and free herself! Excellent attempt at getting your cred back!

But the door is locked. From the outside. That's how cabins work?!

So she just bangs on the door until a monster starts roaring, and then she cowers away from it.

We find her being fed to boars.
