SH: Homecoming :: Alex/Elle
Elle's warmth beside him is comforting. Solid. (Maybe real, maybe not. He'll see when they're out.) She's quiet, keeps glancing out the windows, but she catches him looking and a smile spreads across her face that's almost as good as seeing the sun.
"Have you thought about -- where we'll go? If..."
Neither of them are about to say 'when'. Don't wanna jinx anything. But he likes the we.
Alex shakes his head. After a moment, he says, "I hear Maine's nice this time of year," and he doesn't know why. He's never been to Maine, doesn't have any idea what it's like any time of year -- but it makes Elle's smile widen tinily.
"I've always wanted to see Maine," she responds. It's probably not true. Probably nobody's always wanted to see Maine. He finds his lips twitching into a tired smile anyway.
Neither of them are smiling because of the actual words they're saying. They're smiling because they're both still alive, impossibly. This goddamned town tried to kill them, over and over, and they're still standing.
Sitting. In the back of Wheeler's car, with their voices lowered and their heads close together in a way that made it feel almost private.
When they started the car, Alex knew how many miles from the city limits they were, and he did some mental math. With how fast they're going, they should be crossing the border right now.
He doesn't notice. The warmth of Elle's lips, slightly chapped, distracts him.

TOA :: Luke/Natalia
"Luke!" she called imperiously, straightening her shoulders like a princess should. "Everyone is waiting for you! We are almost to Baticul, and--"
He looked up at her, impassive, and for a moment she thought, He's not either of them, is he?
While Jade had kept him isolated for examination, Natalia had often watched from afar, noting when she saw behaviors that seemed like Asch, or ones that seemed like Luke. A flicker of Asch's impatience, an awkwardness that was all Luke... And it was terrible, when she could not have said which one she wanted to come back more.
But none of it was as terrible as that heartbeat when she saw his blankness and she remembered the replica Luke when he had been new, and she realized that she might have lost them both and a third one had taken their place.
Then he got to his feet and she saw that he had a crown of flowers in his hands, and she stiffened.
"I was just thinking, these flowers look like those, don't they?" he mused, quiet. "You were so kind to me, even back when I was just a helpless infant... Although maybe it's more impressive that you put up with me after that."
Tears welled up in her eyes. "Luke," she said, and then he had crossed to her, lowering the flower ring onto her hair.
Do you even know what this means to me?
"I'm sorry," Luke said, looking down. "I should have talked to you sooner. I wanted to--"
Natalia threw herself at him, arms wrapping around his neck, and kissed him; soundly, happily, with everything she had.
Tales of Vesperia :: Rita/Estelle
Her heart was beating so loud, so fast. Estelle followed the other girl's movements eagerly, waiting. If she knew Rita at all, then -- then that but, in that precise tone of voice, meant...
"As long as you're careful," Rita amended the statement she hadn't even properly made yet, and Estelle couldn't help noticing that she wasn't meeting her eyes. "And I mean, really really careful. No overexerting yourself -- and I get to say what overexerting is!"
Estelle nodded furiously. "As soon as you think it's too much, I'll -- I'll finish the spell I'm casting, and then--"
"You won't finish anything," Rita snapped, head jerking up and eyes fierce. "You'll do nothing at all. When I say it's too much, you stop. No ifs, ands, or buts."
She couldn't help the tiniest beat of hesitation, and Rita leaped on it, waving her arms sharply.
"I knew it! I knew it! Never mind, I take it all back!"
"Rita," Estelle blurted. "No, please! I promise! I'll stop just as soon as you say the word. And if I feel faint, I'll--"
Rita's face only darkened more. "You're not going to feel faint! You aren't even going to feel tired. In fact, if you feel anything when you cast, you're going to stop!"
"Rita," she repeated, fondness warring with the tiniest bit of exasperation, "magic is always at least a little bit draining. You know that--"
Oh. Her friend was now glaring fire balls at her. Perhaps that hadn't been the best line of argument. Estelle fidgeted, and promised softly, "I'll be careful, I really will!"
"...I know," Rita muttered, deflating a little. "I just -- don't want you to have to be. I wish I could..."
Suddenly Estelle felt flushed and pleased. "We'll just have to protect each other," she decided, and on impulse leaned in to brush her lips very lightly over the other girl's cheek.
MCU :: Tony/Bruce
Bruce glanced up from the microscope and had to blink to refocus his eyes. His head was full of cells and Asgardian molecular density and the tensile strength of various metals that could be used to reinforce certain wings of the tower, and he'd never been great at transitioning from technical to conversational, especially not with so little warning. "Um. No?" he guessed.
"Exactly." Oh, good; his input wasn't really required. Bruce went back to looking at the cells, nodding vaguely while Tony spoke. "I mean, the word just means to suppose in the original Greek. But who cares what they meant by it? When you and I hypothesize, it's scientific. Scientiferrific, in fact. Just lousy with science. And that means you have to be able to test it or it doesn't count."
"Sure," Bruce said.
Now, Steve's shield had worked, but vibranium's properties were pretty unique; it wasn't strength that had allowed it to withstand the full might of a god. Besides, there was very little of it to work with. Adamantium would've been easier to get their hands on.
"And just because I think I've got a working hypothesis," Tony went on, apparently really enjoying the sound of his own voice today, "doesn't mean it'll hold up under scrutiny. I should really test it. Submit it to a journal, get some peer-review going."
In spite of himself, Bruce found his attention starting to drift away from the microscope. His lips turned up at the corners, and he relented, tugging his glasses out of his pocket. "Well, naturally."
Tony was grinning at him. "Or, you know. Maybe just the one peer."
"Alphabetical order on the final paper," Bruce told him, and quieted his protest with a kiss.
MCU :: Thor/Sif
"Ugh, you taste of mead and dried blood and half-spent adrenaline! Save your sloppy affections for one of your tavern wenches and leave me in peace."
Thor turns it over and over in his head while chilling his bruise with stolen ice from the kitchen. He cannot understand what part was so objectionable! He didn't mean anything by it, they were just celebrating and -- Sif happened to be there! When he tells Loki, Loki encourages him reasonably to tell Sif exactly that; surely she'll feel better if she knows it was only a mistake.
He winds up with another black eye, but even as her knuckles connect a very strange thought comes into his head and then refuses to leave him alone. Of course Sif is pretty, everyone knows that -- but she was beautiful when she struck him, and for just a moment he found...
Even knowing she would hit him for it, he wanted to kiss her again.
The sensible thing to do is ignore it, but he cannot. Suddenly it's all he can think of when they're together, and the distraction costs him sorely when they spar.
Sometimes -- not often, but sometimes -- Thor has sudden moments of inspiration, where he sees everything very clearly. He has one of them when he realizes that Sif's objection in the tavern was mostly to the tastes, and he's careful to have none of them on his tongue when he kisses her for the second time.
This time, there are no black eyes and no pain, but when he opens his eyes Thor finds her even more beautiful.

MCU :: Thor/Loki
Loki paused -- perhaps too long, but he had to swallow an unkind answer -- before saying, "I remember well. Idunn always hated you messing about in her orchard, but you swore that no other place was as fun to play in."
Thor laughed. He did not even seem to hear the suspicious pause. "And you swore that there was no better treat than her apples. Even though all of Asgard must eat them to keep from aging like mortals, you stole and ate them to soothe your sweet tooth."
There was no judgment in him, only affection, as he glanced up at his brother's face. Loki let his hand stroke Thor's golden hair, spilling over his leg into his lap. "They are exceptionally sweet," he agreed without shame.
"And when I was hurt or upset," Thor mused, quieter, "you would steal one for me, to cheer me. And I would think back on decades at play, climbing trees and racing between the trunks, and I would feel... better."
His voice was slowly trailing off. Loki waited, silent; still stroking the head in his lap as he, too, thought of days gone by.
"Everything was better, then," Thor mumbled, his eyes closing.
Loki waited until he had drifted off to sleep before letting the magic that had put Thor into his receptive state fade. He ducked his head, leaning in, to brush his lips against Thor's, and then he reached out to gently pry the golden apple from Thor's slack grip -- the one he needed to keep from aging.
TOV :: Yuri/Judith
Judith smiled sunnily and collected chips like they fell from the sky. She was a terror at the card table. She won so easily that some players didn't even appear to notice it until they were bankrupt. It made Yuri very glad he wasn't a betting man.
"Damn, Judy," he said when another formerly-prosperous soul stumbled from the table. "You could at least leave 'em enough to drink their losses away."
"I'm not the one who insisted on playing every single hand," she said, patently wounded. "He's a big boy. He can lose all his gald if he wants to."
And the man, who had not stumbled far enough to avoid overhearing, turned around, bristling. "You'd be just as likely to lose as any of us if you played a game of chance!"
"I know," Judith told him calmly. "That's why I don't play games of chance."
"I bet if you tried one, you'd lose!"
Judith paused, and got to her feet, still smiling. "Sure," she said.
She led him over to the craps table; Yuri followed, because he wanted to see this. She placed her bet, any seven, handing over all her chips. Then she turned to Yuri and held out the dice in her hand.
He scowled. "I don't blow on dice."
"You want me to lose?" she asked, lifting her eyebrows.
"I don't. Blow on dice," he repeated.
Judith considered, and then offered slyly, "What if I promise to give you a really special treat later?"
He grudgingly decided that blowing on the dice was the good friend thing to do, even if it was undignified. And she was very smug indeed when they rolled up a two and a five.
SURPRISE DC :: Clark/Lois
"You could learn a thing or two from him, you know."
Clark glanced up too fast and tried to lower his eyes to his computer again but too late; Lois had caught him, and there was a teasing smile on her lips.
"From -- him," Clark repeated, because he wanted to be sure they were talking about the same person.
"Well, he manages to keep Gotham safe, but he still has time to go to benefits and manage a company."
She didn't have to sound so impressed about it. "I don't think he actually sleeps," Clark pointed out, and winced at his own childish tone. What would Mom think?
Lois shifted on his desk, turning to face him and crossing her legs higher. It made her skirt ride up a little, probably innocently. Or so he thought, until she said, "Now, that I don't know about. I don't think you get enough sleep as it is."
He was turning red, Clark knew. "Lois!" he hissed, ridiculously, because even if anyone else at the Planet had been looking, they wouldn't have seen anything scandalous.
"What?" She raised her eyebrows, but her eyes were lidded. "I'm just saying. A man needs his beauty sleep..."
"Lois."
Lois reached out, tangling her fingers in his tie, and reeled him in close. "You're too easy, Smallville."
"I'm..." Clark fumbled for a reply, but she kissed his mouth shut, ignoring the whistles that broke out around them.
.
"You don't really think I should try to be Batman, do you?" he asked, much later.
For all her playfulness, Lois went still. "...Batman belongs to Gotham," she said, slowly. Softly "Superman belongs to the whole world. And that's the way it should be. But maybe I don't always like sharing."
And that, Clark had no response to.

Re: TOA :: Luke/Natalia
That is fantastic.
Persona 3 :: Minato/Aigis idk what this is but SURE
Minato gazed after her for a long beat before he turned back to Aigis, and murmured simply, "Sorry."
"She is from our school," she said. Minato nodded, falling in beside her again. "She was upset to see us together?"
That was -- jealousy, she realized. And for a moment, she was pleased to have seen it in action, and recognized it so well.
And then she thought, of her? Because Aigis and Minato had been walking together? If only Aigis could explain to her that, as human as she had come to be, she was not a person! Her relationship with Minato could never be anything to be envied, could never compare to one he might have with a human female.
Then she thought, to be jealous, it must be... compared.
"Is that female one that you have had a relationship with?"
Minato shrugged a little, saying, "For a while."
"An-- emotional relationship?"
And then he seemed amused, and nodded again.
Which made her chest cavity fill with an ugly, hot sensation. As irrational as it might be, Aigis did not want him to have emotional relationships with other females. She wanted to be the only female in his life.
"Well, I will not be jealous," she announced, somewhat stiffly.
Minato's lips curved up, and he reassured her, "You have nothing to be jealous of." He leaned in and kissed her cheek, his lips shockingly cool to her skin sensors.

Persona 4 :: Chie/Yukiko
Chie stared at her as she laughed, slowly becoming more and more helpless, paroxysms of snickering that shook her thin frame. Yukiko's hand flew up to cover her mouth and she snorted gracelessly, louder and louder.
"What is so funny?" Chie demanded, red creeping up into her face, although Yukiko was ahead of her on that score, possibly from lack of oxygen.
"I'm sorry!" Yukiko chortled. "It's just-- It's so..."
She waited for Yukiko to calm and then kissed her again, more firmly this time, almost determined to make it intense or good somehow, as if by sheer force she could make Yukiko take it seriously. But it had the same result, Yukiko clutching her sides and curling in on herself in her sleeping bag while Chie stewed in hers, embarrassed and uncomfortable.
Of course Yukiko was quick to reassure her after, and later Chie made the effort to try again. And again, and again, getting increasingly creative as days went by: hugging her while they kissed, pinching her while they kissed; kissing her by surprise, kissing her covertly in public...
Chie was seriously considering how much she could be made to feel inadequate before simply giving up.
"Don't be like that," Yukiko said, hushed. "I said I was sorry. We'll make it work." And then she leaned in and pecked Chie on the lips, and smiled, starting to step away before they both froze.
It was the first time Yukiko had kissed Chie, instead of the other way around.
MCU :: Tony/Bruce
Bruce paused, and took off his glasses, blinking fast. "Is that for me?" he asked politely.
"Uh-huh," Tony said.
"It's... not my birthday."
Tony paused, brows drawing together. "It's not?"
"No."
"Then why did I just hire that hooker?"
Bruce chuckled and said, "You didn't do that," confidently. He was one of the few who didn't throw fits over Tony's sense of humor.
Tony threw his arms up, swinging the cake around carelessly. "Your birthday isn't August 7?!"
"I'm quite sure it's November 14th," Bruce said, patient.
And then Tony smiled again, and he sauntered over casually, dropping the box on the countertop. "Want some cake?"
Bruce had a bad feeling about that mood-swing. "...You didn't do this because you thought it was my birthday, did you." He folded his arms, trying to look stern.
"Nope," Tony admitted. He dragged a finger through the icing and tasted it.
"You didn't know when my birthday was."
The other man shrugged, ambling closer. "I knew you wouldn't say anything," he explained, stealing a kiss. He tasted of frosting. "...You don't exactly make an effort to be happy."
In spite of himself, the small smile that curved up Bruce's lips was genuine, helpless. Warm, and fond. "You're going to do something ridiculous in November, aren't you?"
"Oh, yeah. This cake is a joke. Got it from a Dunkin Donuts / Baskin Robbins refrigerator during a coffee-and-donut run." Tony shrugged. "The real thing will be -- three layers? With a scale-size fondant Hulk tearing about Midtown."
Bruce stared at him, bemused.
"And hookers," Tony added, helpfully.
Kingdom Hearts :: Xigbar/Demyx
Anybody else caught shirking their duties completely to nap on a rooftop in the middle of the afternoon probably would've startled and made up guilty excuses. Demyx just said cheekily, "You're kind of in my light," without even opening his eyes.
Xigbar laughed. "Kid, I'm gonna miss you."
"Why, are you going somewhere?" So innocent, just like he didn't know exactly what Xigbar meant.
"We're both going somewhere," Xigbar decided, and extended a hand down to him. "Get up."
Demyx lowered his sunglasses and squinted up at him. "I'm doing recon," he said. "Really!"
He snorted. "It's probably just my early-onset dementia making me paranoid, but somehow I don't believe you. Get up."
"This roof is perfect," Demyx said instead of moving. "I'm totally gonna be tan by the end of the week. If I stay right here."
"You're breaking my heart, kid."
"I'm doing this for the Organization, you know. I mean, just think of how much better I'll blend in. Whoever heard of a bad guy with a tan?"
Well, you couldn't fault him for a lack of imagination. Or persistence. Xigbar rolled his eye. "Kinda think the boss has that covered already. Just get up."
"Well, sure," Demyx said. "But you can't use him as an example, he's got that whole evil-yellow-eyes-and-megalomaniacal-soliloquies thing going. There's only so much a tan can do. But on me..."
Xigbar barked out a laugh. "Evil yellow eyes, huh?"
"Don't worry, you make it look hot," Demyx said with perfect sincerity.
He was really, really going to miss this kid. Xigbar seized his arm and yanked him up into a hard, biting kiss -- and broke it just as fast.
"Glad to hear it. Now let's get to work, so Saix doesn't eat you."

MCU :: Tony/Bruce
"No. No. Come on!" Tony pushed himself upright. "I'm not hearing this. Lalalalalala."
"I just think-- Tony, take your fingers out of your ears."
Bruce was probably trying for stern. The smile that kept sneaking onto his face seemed to be winning, though.
"I refuse to hear it," Tony told him. "You just don't do this to a man. I thought we were friends."
And that did it: the smile had total domination now. Bruce tugged off his glasses and studiously cleaned them to hide it. "I'm sorry. It's nothing against Star Wars. I just -- like the whole idea of the Federation. I'd like to believe that's the kind of future we're all heading for."
Was he really using the optimism argument? Oh, this was too easy. Tony grinned. "Yeah, completely. Personally, I can't wait for the day when we fly around the galaxy accidentally killing diplomats and getting ourselves entangled in ancient sex rituals and being possessed by alien entities who force us to attack close friends or sometimes just have even more sex..."
Bruce winced. "The idea of it!" he repeated firmly. "It's still better than the 'future' Star Wars offers. I think the human race is actually evolving backwards there..."
"Something weird is definitely going on in the prequels," Tony agreed easily. "When did the Jedi become a priesthood, seriously? Should we be worried about all those little boys in training?"
"Not funny," Bruce said, but the smile was fighting for the corners of his mouth again. "Is this all about sex for you?"
"Sex and Han Solo," Tony said unabashedly. "Wait. Those are probably the same thing, right?"
The most microscopic flush spread over the bridge of Bruce's nose. Tony hadn't been expecting that, and suddenly felt a little -- interested himself.
Well, the important part was that he'd won. Probably. They didn't really need to keep talking, or anything.

Hikari and Takeru
Miranda and Marie
Shiki and Eri
DGM :: Marie/Miranda
That wasn't what upset Miranda. That was what made Miranda fluster and stammer a protest, flapping her hands; mostly overwhelmed by Allen's agreed, "It is tradition," and Lenalee's chiding, "A ridiculous tradition. Miranda and Marie will move at their own pace. Keep your noses out of it."
What upset Miranda was when Lavi complained, "At their pace they'll just dance around each other until Miranda trips and falls into his lips!"
Because she was not that incompetent! She was dating a wonderful man she cared deeply about and nothing had gone horribly wrong yet. Just because she had never kissed anyone before didn't mean she never would! She was not a coward. And she was getting better...
Miranda worked herself into such a state that the next time she saw Marie in the halls she stopped, crying out, "Um! Marie!"
He paused, with the small smile that found his lips when he was paying attention to her, that one that made her so happy. She took quick, skipping steps up to him, and… threw her arms around him and kissed him square on the mouth.
...Immediately after that, when she realized what she’d done, she fainted.
"I'm so sorry! So, so sorry!" Miranda babbled when she woke again and found herself in his arms, which made her only more nervous. "I don't know what came over me, I was listening to the others and they all sounded so knowing and they're so much younger than me, I just wanted to show them they don't know--"
"I'm happy," Marie told her, gently, fingers curling around hers. "If... you did it because you wanted to, and not to make a point. I want you to want that."
Miranda softened, and squeezed his hand back. "It's all I want," she confessed.
Which was the story of how Miranda scandalously kissed her boyfriend, even faster than was traditional.
Digimon: Takeru/Hikari
Even if he hadn't said her name, she felt sure that some part of her would have recognized his voice, even after all these years. "Takeru."
Her first thought was that he looked good. Different, of course; older. She was twenty-one now, so he would be twenty-one in another month or so.
Takeru glanced at the chair across from her, and immediately she said, "Please, sit down. It's been forever. I mean, if you don't have anywhere to be."
He smiled, slow. "No. Orientation hasn't started yet."
"You're transferring?" Silly question. Hikari flushed. "Well -- welcome! This is a great school, especially if you're studying..." She trailed off, unsure.
Takeru flashed another smile. "Literature. I think -- I want to be a writer."
A writer. Hikari stared at him for a fraction of a second too long, then blurted, "Oh, that's wonderful. I'm sure you'll do great with it!"
It wasn't a lie; she was sure he could do anything he put his mind to. Takeru had always been that sort of person. But his tiny smile said he knew just what she was thinking.
"I might still change my mind. But... I have one story I really want to tell, at least. So maybe I'll write just the one book."
"Oh?" That was easier to imagine from him. "What story?"
His eyes crinkled at the corners; suddenly she felt warm. "Our story. About the Digital World."
Oh.
They were only twenty-one, but it still felt like a very long time ago. Back when she'd had to smuggle Tailmon around in her backpack, instead of feeling perfectly comfortable leaving her behind in her dorm room while she studied.
Back when she and Takeru had been inseparable.
"--I think I'd like to read it," she said in a rush of nostalgia.
His smile broadened. "You'll get the very first copy. Autographed and everything."
Hikari wondered when her next class would be -- and didn't care. "...Do you want to go get coffee?"
Re: DGM :: Marie/Miranda
It's great how you get everyone dead on--not just Miranda and Marie but also Allen, Lenalee, and Lavi--in so few words. Marie's lines are everything everyone should say to their girlfriend, and that closing line is aces.
...Immediately after that, when she realized what she’d done, she fainted.
YEAH, PRETTY MUCH THAT.
Re: Digimon: Takeru/Hikari
(Sorry I'm so late getting back to you about this, especially when you so generously wrote a nice bit of fluff for a complete stranger. Thank you.)
