I finally finished Final Fantasy IX
I've spent the last half hour or so crying, but I finished it! It's been 13 years and 11 months to the day since this game was released, which means... I DID IT IN UNDER 14 YEARS! YES!
Another video game liveplay complete. 642 comments. /basks in the glory
Expect a sexy post from me in the morning before I move on to [replaying] Final Fantasy X [which I did already finish, thank you very much].

So, you hadn't played it before? I'm not judging, I still have VII, X and XII flying around at home and so far I've only played XII till the last mission, I think. But as I've left my TV and gaming equipment behind when I moved, chances are slim I'm going to complete any of these any time soon, hah.

Final Fantasy, Kingdom Hearts, and Tales of games are really the only video games I have a solid track record with. I have completed Final Fantasy VI, VII, Crisis Core, maybe VIII but I didn't like it so maybe I just Youtubed the end I don't recall, IX as of last night, X, XII, and XIII. X-2 I wasn't able to finish because I'm a perfectionist and I couldn't be happy unless I was on track to get 100%, and XIII-2 I didn't finish because I hated it. I am still failing at everything before VI, although I have started all of them at various points in time.
On my Backloggery a full 40% of my video games are unfinished -- and that number is inflated because 1) roommates and friends played some of them while I spectated, and 2) I haven't added many of my newly-bought but never-played games...
But I finally made myself finish it and I'm so glad. /weeps
I have some video game emulation software if you ever wanted to give some of those a try using your computer. I can emulate DS, GBA, GC, PS1, PS2, PSP, and SNES games.

Once you have it open and running, on MY version you go into the CDVD menu > ISO Selector > Browse... and then you select the ISO of the game you want to play. I only have Chain of Memories for the PS2 emulator, so I can't hook you up with the first KH game in ISO format. Try theisozone? Then once your ISO is selected you go into System > Boot CDVD and it will start up the game!
It looks like you might be able to put a physical copy of a PS2 game into the DVD slot and just say System > Boot CDVD and maybe it will play?? But I haven't tried it and all my PS2 games are in boxes so idk for sure.
It's easiest to play games with an emulator if you have a USB controller or something so that you're not fumbling around with the keyboard while you play; you can get them for like $10 or something. Either way, go into Config > Controllers > Plugin Settings to customize which buttons do which things, e.g. the up button should correspond to the up on the directional pad, I want the triangle button to be the I key / the Y button on my USB controller / etc.
I think that's all the info you need to get rolling?! If you have any questions I will do what I can.

P.S. If you decide to pick up where you left off on FFIX instead of start over, you were on page 9 last. I know this because I'm reading the FFIX liveblog I just finished instead of doing anything responsible. /shifty glances

And duly noted! When I have some free time again (hahahaha sob) I will throw myself headlong into the adventures of Zidane and Jerry the Weird Thing.
