2014 Writing Retrospective Meme
I was genuinely surprised when I went to go make this list to find that I'd written very little. I didn't bother to sort them by size, so they're collected by fandom:

Assorted tiny drabbles for voting in Fire Emblem: Awakening, MCU, and Megami Kouhosei.
Leitmotifs of the year: "Please tell me what to write,
fic_promptly." Literally everything I wrote this year was in response to prompts there, and... about 70% of that was during the same week for a contest. I was not on the writing ball this year.
Favorites of the batch: I love the tone and the dialogue in "Balancing Act"..."Family Bonding" is a belief near and dear to my heart (Orihime wanting to be a part of Ichigo's family and not just wanting to date him) and I'm glad I finally got it out and it feels right. "A Very Serious Gift" and "In Wonderland" are also both meaningful pieces where I loved what I wrote.
Best of the batch: I'm amazed by the final product of "Wake Up". There are so many layers in that thing that just came to me during the writing, and if you don't read it closely and think about it you're probably missing some of the things that make me love it. I also love everything that "A Study in Reasonable Assumptions" is -- especially in terms of Neku's relationships, interactions, and opinions.
"Spirits Restless and Restful" is honestly probably the best Megami Kouhosei fic I've ever written, and I'm thrilled that it seems so right for the characters even though I haven't read their source material in ten years.
Most underappreciated: It's 2014. Communities are dead. Communication-unfriendly medium Tumblr is king. All fanfic is under appreciated. I admit that I could probably be doing more to promote my fanfic, but the more work I attach to writing the less I do of it, so I'll settle for "no one reads, no one comments, it's all just for my own pleasure."
Favorite first lines: Most of my first lines were purposefully underwhelming this year...
Six years after Rukia met Renji, he became very tall.
- Balancing Act
Orihime was in love with Ichigo's home.
...And him too, of course, but that soul-deep certainty was impossible to compare to the yearning she felt all the way to her core when she sat in his kitchen and listened to the voices of his father and his sisters. - Family Bonding
Most fun to write: Truthfully, "Spirits Restless and Restful" just came out of me and it was so natural and really uplifting. It was an interesting and layered subject matter, writing genki godboy Zero is fun, I even got Erts laughing -- it was great.
Sexiest fic: I didn't really manage much in the way of overtly shippy this year, much less sexy. "Hot Cocoa" wins by default because it's the only fic in which the leads had any sort of romantic physical contact.
Holy crap that's wrong even for you: I guess "And Become Giants", because it was an evil Urahara AU with fluffy feelings between two awful people.
Fic that shifted my own perceptions of the characters: I might say "A Very Serious Gift" because it helped me ground my Shiki voice, which I'd previously found difficult to do because she spends part of TWEWY roleplaying Eri, and secondly because it made me interested in Rhyme and that clearly led to several other fics with Rhyme in them.
Something you never predicted writing in January: Fucking Megami Kouhosei, wow. That... was not expected. But I wrote a fic and two drabbles for it! I'm impressed.
Hardest fic to write: "In Wonderland", not because I had difficulty with the concept, I knew exactly what I wanted to do. I had difficulty with it because I started it about 3 times and realized I was going too deep into Lenalee's trauma or her first meeting with Kanda and I needed to just touch on that briefly and get into the actual substance of the fic. The things I kept accidentally writing wanted to be their own fanfic.
Biggest disappointment: That I still don't have an original story I'm focusing on. Also playing TOA and realizing I'd remembered some details wrong in "Wisdom", hmph.
Biggest surprise: Fucking Megami Kouhosei!! Probably that for all my intense shipping I didn't actually really write any shipping... I can't say I'm surprised that I didn't write until September, because 2014 fucking sucked and I spent most of it buried in mediocre romance novels.
Most telling fic: I genuinely don't know. Maybe "Shared Moments" and "In Wonderland" since they both feature dynamics that I really enjoy in a pairing (...e.g. sweet bossy girl and broody guy)
What's next?: If I don't write something original soon I will probably melt down. With that said, I have a Kariya and Uzuki fic on the backburner and a
genprompt_bingo card. I'm not working on anything at the moment, in part because I'm distracted by icons / crocheting / Harvest Moon, but... I'd like to write??

I just bought RPG Maker and am going to start scripting my original video game idea again so I expect this problem to promptly quintuple.
no subject
Ooh, RPG Maker. Shiny. Do you need the maker to play the resultant game?
no subject
You do not! Back in the day I had some friends who advocated making the game from scratch, but the server our stuff was stored on basically died and we lost everything, so we all just gave up and stopped talking to each other, looool. So I know the pain of the crashing and burning all too well...
I figure if I make a hodgepodge with the default RPG Maker stuff, at the end of the process when I miraculously have an otherwise complete game I can go all-out and look into original music / art / sprites / etc. I used to set aside $10/mo in a savings account for this game. That account has $800 in it now. That's not bad to start!

Sweet. RPG Maker sounds like a blast, and a Kay-game sort of has to be aces. Maybe I can hack out some derpy fanart for you. Not a bad start at all!

So, stay tuned, like, 600 years from now
