Something That Annoys Me

I'm in a certain RP, and right away everyone involved should know what RP that is, because I'm only in one besides my own. (...I should really look for another one. :D )

In that certain RP there is a certain player. But you'd never know, because she never approaches players of her own volition, and she is very difficult for other people to approach -- I know I tried for quite a while and she was constantly having some sort of problem or other excuse why we couldn't play or why she couldn't post or, simply, so unapproachable that I couldn't ask. "Gee, sorry you're frothing at the mouth about the really unpleasant stuff going on in your life for the last two months, but... play with me now, bitch."

And she never asked to play on her own initiative. Ever. That wouldn't be too much of a problem if she were at least positive and welcoming of other people wanting to play with her, but she isn't.

The game has been running for going on five months now, and she has posted exactly four times: three of them in the first two weeks of gameplay, in March. Then, after a lot of poking from everyone, she posted again at the end of April.

Nothing else since then.

She doesn't respond when we comment on her character's journal, hasn't even posted to her character's journal in over two months and three months if you discount the one solitary post that she didn't follow through on which involved no direct interaction; she doesn't initiate RP ever, and she seems to be very unreceptive to discussion of the game or RP invites.

Pie-chan says that she's managed to, in this time, play twice with the player, through consistent nagging, although more often than not when she IMs about game stuff, she is ignored by this certain player.

But if anything, that annoys me more. So she's not willing to play, she's not willing to post, her character is virtually nonexistent because nobody has seen or heard from him in ages, but she won't let the character die either. There's a GHOST in the house.  It's like he died somewhere and Pie-chan's character simply has the ability to see ghosts, but everyone else has given up and moved on.

If you don't follow the game, you shouldn't be allowed to play it. You should be out of the game.

I don't know, it makes me really angry. Someone is taking up a character slot but not doing anything with it, not even the most basic maintenance, upholding the journal, which takes a maximum, a MAXIMUM, of ten minutes a week, ten minutes every OTHER week if you need to stretch it out. The character exists only in an alternate dimension, and you have to go through elaborate rituals to reach him, and when you get back from the alternate dimension, there's no proof that you were there at all except for a vague memory.

Part of what makes me angry is that there's nothing different from Pie-chan's interactions with this character and something I tried in the last QPQ game. I wanted to have an interaction with an older character who no longer had a journal, but when I mentioned it, it was greeted with hostility by the moderator. Later on my character actually started playing with a non-game character, and this too was a Very Bad Thing for me to have done, and I know that. But here we have A Real Character, who is tangible and alive and seen daily by the other characters, and A Ghost Character, who doesn't keep a journal, who doesn't play with anyone else, and is therefore no better than the ex-character or the non-character that I played with.

I tried for a while to talk to the certain player, but all game discussions were met without enthusiasm, even coolly. I've recently poked the moderator of this game once or twice to do something about her, to talk to her and nag her or yell at her because that's what moderators do to keep the game on track, but I don't know what the results are. I only know that the character is nonexistent and the player still, contrary to all evidence from her lack of posts or interactions or cooperation or anything, exists.

So I'm being more publically annoyed now, and hoping that something will be done. Because almost every time the game is brought up to me now, when I think of the "other five characters" in play, there is actually four other characters and one giant hole. That hole will not get better if you leave it alone. It will simply get bigger. She's not going to magically decide to be fascinated in the game and post regularly and volunteer for interactions.

She's just going to get less and less present, and more and more annoying, and possibly suck other people into a black hole of inaction.

Yeah, that's right! It's HER fault that the game is slowly dying!

Yeah, so... Maybe a new player would revive waning interest in this game? *sweatdrop*

This has happened in RPs I'm in too, and while I feel bad about the whole "ghost in the house" thing (the perfect way to describe it), it's hard to get the point across that "we definitely aren't telling you we're not your friend and to go to hell, so don't take it that way, but you pretty clearly don't care about following things and it's hard to have plot development when your character is technically there but utterly invisible. Just accept that this RP didn't work out for you and TELL US so we can all move on happily". ><;;; Saa. No, I'm not bitter. XD
