Amuses Me, Anyway
It occurs to me that I originally conceived of Gideon and Fiona as a way of saying "Even if Sirius was a girl he still wouldn't be fucking James so HA!" (That chain of thought was courtesy of ![[livejournal.com profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/external/lj-userinfo.gif)
sakusha_sama and pretty Japanese fanart.) Thus rendering Fiona as Sirius and Gideon as James, which is mostly true in accordance with their respective personalities, and they would be happily platonic sibling-like and not having sex at all.
But I originally conceived of Gideon and Fiona many weeks ago, and had since forgotten their origins.
More recently they found a story, Foxes Wild, and I started developing that story and adding characters. I knew that Fiona would be romantically shot down by the vampire Maxim, and I said to myself, that's so sucky she needs a real love interest, even if after the fact of the story. I decided to give her Lucien, because I couldn't tell a story full of vampires and demons without having a werewolf in there somewhere and he needed context.
I don't need to tell you who among the Marauders Lucien resembles most.
Subconsciously, I paired the Sirius-inspired girl with the Remus-like werewolf.
The mind works in predictable ways?

INITIATE BLATHER
Nothing could be more horrifying than breaking a nail, I had one this morning and it destroyed me. You should write an ffnet Harry/Draco nailbreakingfic to a Backstreet Boys song. Draco could use his broken nail to slit his wrists.
Now, to reaffirm to myself the reasons why Sirius is totally not dead, because I can't reaffirm it to myself enough to make me feel better:
1) It's a long-standing fanfact that if you can't see a body, nobody's dead. Mighty convenient how Sirius' body fell into oblivion -- thus denying us any sense of closure that might be afforded by weeping over his body and consigning him to a grave, and allowing for him to miraculously return and we'll all be very surprised.
2) The spell that hit him when he fell through the doorway was a RED flash -- Crucio? -- and thus it was not Avada Kedavra, the OMG InstaDeath spell. So Sirius has to have been alive when he vanished: other spells can do HORRIBLE HORRIBLE THINGS to you (the Longbottoms, anyone?) but they can't kill you. If JK had really intended for him to DIE, you'd think that the least she could've done was kill him with the spell that kills people instead of putting his death down to the fall after a spell during which he conveniently vanished.
3) We know that the doorway is some sort of gateway to the World Of Ded Ppls but that doesn't necessarily guarantee that walking through it means that you yourself are now dead. Like, you walk through the door, and for no reason now you're dead and a spirit, wHoOoOoO. If there had been a flash, a ZAP, a POW, maybe even a BIFF, then the curtain-crossing = death thing would've been excusable: crossing over kills you. But... nothing happened. It's more like he fell and couldn't get back out in time to stop the angst.
4) My favorite bit of all, because JK is all mysterious, is Luna's foreshadowing. After the death Harry is inconsolable and frequently sulky and miserable, and he talks to Luna and she comforts him with (somewhat discordant) stories of her own mother, but... The words that she leaves him on, the last thing she says to him before Harry discovers to his surprise that he feels a lot better, is that she doesn't want help getting her possessions back, because, "I'll just go down and have some pudding and wait for [the missing things] to turn up . . . it always does in the end . . ."
Maybe I'm just crazy, but that seems like a very deliberate note to end their discussion on. FORESHADOWING? IS THE MISSING GODFATHER GOING TO COME BACK IN THE END?
He fucking better.
5) JK has talked about it in interviews, but most of the time she evades the issue rather than answering straight. For example:
SiriuslyLovinSirius: If we ever see Sirius again, what form will he be in?
JK Rowling replies -> I couldn't possibly answer that for fear of incriminating myself.
Cookie246122: Why did you kill Sirius? It made me very sad :(
JK Rowling replies -> I'm really, really sorry. I didn't want to do it, but there was a reason. If you think you can forgive me, keep reading, you'll find out. [I feel really guilty now].
I think she has to avoid these questions instead of answering them is partially because she's not intending for him to "stay dead". She's shown no hesitation squashing most rumors and absurd questions; I think she would be more open about saying, "So, he's dead," unless she planned for him to be... not dead. And I know that she's also said in an interview that she absolutely will NOT be bringing anybody back from the dead, but as I've pointed out above, Sirius was to all evidence perfectly alive when he fell through the curtained doorway. She's not bringing him back from the dead if they only thought he was dead.
So... I WIN. AGAIN. And thinking about Sirius being not dead... well, you know.
