As he had suspected, he was getting really tired of wood-cutting really fast. He hoped they could remain good friends, but he definitely needed some space. So if he wound up -- perhaps not being as physically present for his assigned chore as some people would have liked him to be -- then it was only an expression of their mutual decision to co-exist peacefully instead of having an ugly break-up.

In my opinion, that's got to be up there with some of the top paragraphs I ever composed. I just had to repeat and save it for posterity. <3
