Driving Test Blues
Got there early.
Feeling good.
No reason why I shouldn't pass.
Still nervous, but feeling good.
Only a twenty minute wait.
Actually only five minutes after the scheduled time.
Successfully avoided the Examiner From Hell.
Received an examiner my instructor claims is quite lenient.
Confident about my turns.
Confident I'm looking enough.
Decent three-point turn.
Too far on the first parallel park; perfect on the second run-through.
One harrowing experience -- the other driver's fault, no points off.
Felt good.
Failed.
Even my instructor can't explain it. I had only seven infractions -- only seven. (My last test, with the Examiner From Hell, I had eighteen infractions. Most of them unfair.) I got 60 points deducted from my score, twice the allowable. My instructor has no idea how only seven infractions adds up to seventy points. It means almost all of those infractions (which, please note, were all quite minor, things like "fails to observe adequately at intersections") amounted to ten points on a test where 30 points are allowed. He's baffled. He said, I'm pretty good at judging people, I thought for sure you were going to pass -- I never would've imagined you'd fail this badly. He actually asked for a photocopy of my ticker so he could look online to see if they'd changed the point values.
Wouldn't it figure? I don't even really WANT to drive. I just want my family to stop bitching, and to stop having to take this goddamn test and these goddamn lessons. I want to put it all behind me and be able to say, "I can drive, now NEVER AGAIN will I have to do anything like what I did before I could drive."
...I parallel-parked. Perfectly. She didn't even open the door, but she took off no points for it.
How is it even possible for me to have gotten sixty points off with only seven very minor infractions? Usually only dangerous actions are ten points off.
Sonuvabitch. My Winamp taunts me, also.

Quote of the Week: Lewis Black, "The Daily Show: Back in Black"
I know I didn't have any sex during the blackout. How could I? My computer wasn't working!
