This post is more political than I meant it to be

Why is it that when you're standing at a bus stop, the smokers are always standing upwind of you?

Bill Maher's show is recorded and posted online as a podcast. I don't agree with everything he says, but his show is still fantastic. ("We can pretend that the biggest threat to our children is some creep on the internet; or we can admit it's us. Because when your son can't find France on a map, or touch his toes with his hands, or understand that the ads on TV are lying... then the person fucking him is YOU.")

And it helps give you new insights. Today I learned that Ben Affleck occasionally has intelligent things to say!

So I'm moving to Boulder. ♥ [livejournal.com profile] libekory and I are making all these excited plans about how we'll do things that I expect we'll forget the moment we move in together.

Among those, we're trying so hard to be good because our country is terrifying us. We're using Buy Blue to try and give our money to people who give THEIR money to Democrats. Upon researching, however, we discovered easier said than done. For instance, breakfast. Cereal is simply not blue. Kellogg's and Post and General Mills all donate pretty substantially Republican. Li-san even suggested diet shakes for breakfast, like Ensure, but on researching that it TOO belongs to something which donates heavily red.

Well, my conclusion was that we'll make the best of the companies that donate reasonably equally (Kellogg's is 56% GOP/44% Dem in donations) and buy blue where we can (buy Gateway, not Dell!).

It's not possible to live blue when the big corporations all want their big corporate tax cuts. :P

Is there a Trader Joe's (http://www.traderjoes.com) in Denver? You could shop there. I think they're blue-leaning (and cheap, don't forget cheap! And tasty.)

I'm informed that there's no Trader Joe's. :\ Actually, CostCo donates 99% Democratic ($220k last presidential election!) so I wish they had one of those around, we'd totally get a membership. But it's a little difficult to get to. ^^

well if you're moving near me then let's hang out!!!!! >:O

PS: no, there is no trader joe's in CO, but if you want to buy yuppie nonsense you'll find lots of it in boulder. XD

D: B, Boulder CO! I live in Boston now, but I'm stalking [livejournal.com profile] libekory after I graduate in January so I'm getting an apartment in one of those wacky midwest states that confusingly has either deserts or blizzards I can't tell.

We should hang out! You can tell me where to find food that isn't organic tofu granola?

I wish you'd move to denver instead of boulder! I mean for one thing people in boulder are all insane rich hippies, and also there are several costcos in denver but I don't know that there are any in Boulder (I don't shop there, except at Lush XD;;). Oh wellz XD It isn't that far in colorado terms between the two cities... of course I actually live in the middle of goddamn nowhere in the mountains. T_T I want to move SO BAD but I can't afford rent by myself and probably not with anyone else either -_- I guess to you coming from New York rent will seem reasonable, but there's no way I can afford it with my current student loans XD; sigh. I'm waiting for one of my friends to buy a house and feel sorry for me and let me live in a spare bedroom or something. XD (either that or to graduate, lol?? I wish I could trap a man. A man with an apartment. Unfortunately I am not that sort of person. XD;)

Stalking? XD;;;;

You should trap a man with a billion dollars. For student loan repayment purposes.

Stalking where stalking = sharing a house with. I'm currently sharing one floor of a three-story building with two other girls and spending $600/mo for it, so yeah, moving to Boulder where we're currently looking at an ENTIRE three-story building all to ourselves for less than I'm paying here, that's a pretty good deal, I think. XD

We were looking at a three-bedroom place at that price but she likes Boulder and you just dissed it and now she prematurely hates you forever probably so you can nevar live with us. :\ ALAS.

[identity profile] angrybabble.livejournal.com 2006-10-24 09:55 pm (UTC)(link)
alas!!!! well but I go to school in denver so that is the main reason I don't want to live in boulder XD how would I get there?? (I don't have a car, and the colorado public transport system can be called, at best, assy... I currently commute from the mountains about 50 miles each way though, so I guess it wouldn't actually be worse).

wait, you're looking at a 3-bedroom for less than $600/mo total!? O_O damn, I'd be willing to commute for that XD; if you need a really poor roommate in january, lemme know. XD;;

Icon-related winnings for you.

Li-san assures me the public transportation is Not So Bad around Boulder and into Denver. When I visit at Thanksgiving I shall somewhat see for myself! I totally know about commuting though -- it's an hour trip by public transportation from where I live to where I work, so that's two hours a day wasted on travel. :\ Ahh, cities.

I meant per person -- in total it's less than $1100, and my current apartment is more expensive than that for about a third of the space, plus ridiculous like, gas heat that Dubya delivers to me personally with a smirk and a $200 utility bill every winter month, it's awesome not awesome.

You should hang out with us at our awesome apartment when I get there, and in the morning we'll all part ways wanting to kill one another and I'm sure glad nobody decided to jump into anything. XD

[identity profile] angrybabble.livejournal.com 2006-10-24 10:16 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't get to use these much since they're rarely appropriate... XD

aw, I was like "what, a 3-person apartment for $600?!" although there probably are some in the more dodgy parts of denver, but the nicest I've found was a nice big 3-bedroom (at the time I had two roommates) with all the amenities (pool, hot tub, sauna, workout room thing, on-site laundry, etc) for $900 (not including utilities)

still, it's not that bad, at least if I got a job >_>

I'll try to come hang out with you! We should play video games or drink or something to break the ice, as I at least am shyish! Although I am pretty awesome! I'm so awesome that my old roommate kicked me out because I was poor (well, he didn't kick me out, but he bought a condo and we moved out of our apartment and he was like "you can't afford to live with me!" and I was like "you're right!") but he felt so sorry for me like 6 months later that he offered to let me live there anyhow because he likes me that much!!! (I didn't take him up on it because at the time even the cheap rent seemed like something I'd be happier spending on other things, but now I wish I had because mountains succcckkkk >_>; but I still get to sleep over in his bed when I want to!! he's gay btw XD;)

It came to my attention that a lot of people don't know! XD I accidentally startled [livejournal.com profile] phinnia a lot the other day. I thought maybe it was time to announce.
