More cat news (this time less happy)
Ela, one of our new kittens, looks exactly like my cat Hoshi, who lives at my mother's house. I love her, but she's been so many years with me rarely there, and she has two other cats there and it would kill her to leave Maxx -- after all this time, ten years, it feels cruel to uproot her and drag her across the country. I left her there. My mom becomes her surrogate mother when I'm not there to haunt.
But Ela looks just like her. Same coloring, in many of the same places. They don't have terribly similar attitudes, and Ela's much more laid-back than she is. (Eight years later she'll still fight with Rico and hiss at him, but Ela took about two days to get used to Roxas.)
My mother told me today that a few days after I left, Hoshi left and she hasn't been back yet. It's been over two weeks now, I think. They don't think she was killed -- my mother investigated that option very thoroughly -- but they have no idea where she is. There are lots of signs up and stuff; they think someone might have been charmed by her and taken indoors, but if she has, eventually she'll dash for the door and escape, cuz she's an outdoor girl; and sometimes cats do things like this, they vanish for a month and then just turn up at home again.
It's still very depressing. My poor girl. I hope she gets home okay.

(Same cousin had a different cat who took one look at the family's new dog and immediately moved in with the family two houses down. I think relocating is a feline way of voting.)
