On the subject of [profile] khfanficrants

In my experience, there are two kinds of shippers.

1) Fans who like pairings.
2) Fans who like unusual pairings.

People in group #2 seem to feel entitled somehow, like it's personally offensive how people of a #1 persuasion enjoy their favorite pairings even though everybody else enjoys them. If you don't like Axel/Roxas? Good for you. That's something you're entitled to. I have no complaints and welcome your "alternate" pairings.

But don't automatically leap to smack down the pairing, don't sneer at people who do like it, don't insist that it makes you physically ill to see it on your flist. It's your oversensitivity, not the popularity of the pairing, that's causing you problems.

Don't hate the ship! Hate the stupid fangirls who flood the ship with OOC poorly-written ridiculous fluff that has nothing to do with the actual canon. If those stupid fangirls were flooding your flist with Luxord/Demyx, you'd all hate that pairing too, but it's still not the pairing you hate. It's the stupid fangirls.

What I'm saying is, when someone goes, "It sure is hypocritical that all the people who sneered at the concept of 8/13 day get very excited about 9 month," don't whine about how 8/13 day was different because of all the spam. It's still hypocritical. Both ideas are perfectly stupid. Don't bash the idea of having a "day" for a pairing and then turn right around and insist it's okay when you do it for a pairing that offends you less.

Because you know what? The pairing isn't hurting you.

The stupid fangirls are hurting you.

You, and your oversensitivity, is what's hurting you.

Edit, 6/22/07: Welcome, people from KHFFR. You should be aware that this post was made nine months ago after a huge amount of ranting about "AkuRoku" Day that was way more annoying than AkuRoku Day. Enjoy your blast to the past.

Also, for those of you who actually bothered to read and didn't just go off what the poster said: Please don't claim that I am generalizing all of you into a box by generalizing absurdly yourself. I don't actually think you're all a single entity. I'm sure you're all unique snowflakes with your own wonderful opinions, but you have to understand that in the mob roar of "WORD" it's hard to hear them.

[livejournal.com profile] khfanficrants always seems to find something wrong with everything. There isn't enough Disney. There's too much Disney. No one cares about the Organization outside of Akuroku fluff. And it just goes on and on and on and... -_-

The KH fandom is one big exploding mess.

I do totally agree with that assessment. XD No strong females in the game! People ignore the strong females in the game! CoM offends me! CoM is god!

There's always something. Fandom is constantly at war with one another. XD

I'm not sure which is worse: the stubborn stupid fangirls, or the stubborn intelligent fangirls!

Re: -sneaks in!-

[identity profile] sphere.livejournal.com 2006-09-07 10:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Fandom stupidity is just a given. I mean, there's always going to be something godawful to gawk at, but why whine about everything else? It's just fandom.

Maybe someone should make a tv show out of it... "Today on Fandom Bitchfight, we have kAwAiIchAn999 fighting for the belief that 'Sora is a cold, insensitive Demyx-Murderer!!!' against OT3fan's belief that 'The Organization was attempting to destroy Hollow Bastion... more.' Now remember, we have ambulances standing by, and the winner gets hair extensions and plastic surgery to cover up the damage. Now, fight!"

Re: -sneaks in!-

[identity profile] shoiryu.livejournal.com 2006-09-07 11:20 pm (UTC)(link)
the belief that 'Sora is a cold, insensitive Demyx-Murderer!!!'

I've seen that person. She wrote a long, rambling love letter to Demyx in the Demyx community, raving about how he was a pure being of light, and Sora was a dirty, filthy keeper of darkness.

I'm only barely exaggerating the terminology.

I SAW THAT. It was terrifying. O_o It was the first thing I ever saw when I went to the Demyx fan comm, her screeching about how there's no light for Sora, never, he's eville rant rant rant, and Demyx is waiting for her in the afterlife, and the comments I saw weren't "Seek psychiatric help!!" they were "Wow, you're so brave for saying that."

That's when I decided it wasn't the comm for me. XD

Re: -sneaks in!-

[identity profile] shoiryu.livejournal.com 2006-09-08 12:07 am (UTC)(link)
Hahaha! I was the first commentor on that entry, essentially going, "...I think you're misinterpreting Demyx /and/ Sora as characters?" and her only reply to me was LOL I KNEW I'D SCARE SOMEONE. The sanity, she is /strong/ with this one!

It's because they seem to think that they're so much better. Yes, 75% of fandom is Axel/Roxas and 90% of that is BAD Axel/Roxas. But those of us who enjoy the pairing don't deserve to be DEMONIZED because you're tired of seeing it! And they really do tend to treat this pairing, and fans of it, as demons who are stealing good things from them.

And, of course, THEIR favorite pairing (in one notable hater's case, Vexen/Larxene/Marluxia) is so much better...

Really it's all just very transparent jealousy. "Why aren't they writing for my OTP/favorite character?!"

[identity profile] shoiryu.livejournal.com 2006-09-07 11:19 pm (UTC)(link)
I also loooove the assumption that writing Axel/Roxas means you have no interest in any of the other pairings or characters. "Why don't you like my favorite pairing/character best like I do?" And so forth.

[identity profile] aramuin.livejournal.com 2006-09-07 10:03 pm (UTC)(link)
I think that's true of most fandoms and is usually the sign that a fandom is about to go totally batshit insane.

I don't get this need to bitch about pairings - yes, there are pairings I don't like/don't see/have never read a fic of that hasn't made me break out in hives but I bitch about them to friends, or on my own LJ or similar 'private' settings.

"Don't like it, don't read it."

Is that reeeeeeeally so hard to get?

It's sad when really intelligent fans pitch intolerant fits. Do you have any idea, any idea, how sick I am of hearing that Axel of Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories was fucking badass and Axel of Kingdom Hearts 2 was a fucking pussy, and all the people who like him in KH2 are detestable fans of the pairing that stole his balls? Because character development is such a bad thing!

Why does fandom have to be about what I want YOU to do with your talents? Why can't you do whatever the hell you want and I'll do whatever the hell I want?

Jealousy, of course. Wah wah, comment on what I write, how come only the stupid OOC fluff gets comments~

[identity profile] aramuin.livejournal.com 2006-09-07 10:41 pm (UTC)(link)
AMEN!

Character Development! Such is dirty words and slander for lo, shall the characters remain forever as canon left them, no matter the time or trauma undergone. All else is OOC and flamebait.

I LOVE Winry so yay. ♥

You fall into the category of "enjoys pairings"! #1 is the category for people who like what they like and mind their own business. (Unfortunately, it is also the category for brainless fannits.) #2 can be comprised of sane people, like #1 can be, however, they also have their share of asshats, such as people who resent those who enjoy popular pairings.

birthdayfic ♥

Lawl. True, I'm so tired it didn't quite click that being 2 did not mean you couldn't be 1, ♥

I. I itch to write it. But I hate writing by hand. ^.^; I write and rewrite obsessively, and it's so much easier when you can just squeeze between and delete and undelete, etc. Besides, my hand can't quite keep up with me, ;_;

[identity profile] reversedhymnal.livejournal.com 2006-09-08 02:46 am (UTC)(link)
And. That. ARGH. What I mean is. You know. I'm both. And. And. 2 follows into 1, though by itself it can be merely exclusive, and really you could say 1 and be tacitly including 2. And I didn't quite realize that.

And I'm shit at explanations.

But I'm trying. Too hard, most probably, ^.^;

Seriously, I would highly recommend not getting involved in the fandom. XD Of course, my last like, THREE fandom experiences have been wholly unrewarding.

I think the last sane fandom I was in was Getbackers, before it went all to hell. Man. I long for the good old days. :\

[identity profile] angrybabble.livejournal.com 2006-09-07 11:27 pm (UTC)(link)
I'll make sure to avoid it. XD Actually I always avoid Square fandoms (along with any large fandom) because they are always full of annoying tards. If I want recs I'll just ask the more masochistic people on my flist. XD Getting into a large fandom full of tards is a guaranteed way to make me lose interest in the canon (I won't start hating it, but I'll just get tired of even thinking about it, because of the thought of what annoying people will do with it... tragically this sort of happened with me and GB. Okay and Ginji's growing suckiness got to be too heartbreaking. XD;;)

hey, jojo fandom has no drama or fantards! :D Of course that is because it has like 10 people in it. XD SMALL FANDOMS FTW. The pros and cons of small vs large fandom are easy to see in these cases... I wish my fandom had the sheer mass of fanworks that KH2 does! But I miss, like, small GB fandom, back in the day... Jojo is sort of similar, in that we all know one another and we still get excited when we meet a new fan (like, we call each other on the phone and DISCUSS the new fan). Because of the art that it seems 99% of people can't get past, especially shallow Screechies for whom prettiness is the highest measure of value, I don't think this fandom will ever get too large (but on the plus side it will also never get too retarded! :D).

[identity profile] ladycrysiana.livejournal.com 2006-09-08 01:03 am (UTC)(link)
See, this is when I think back to the huge flaming shipper thread in FMA (not that there was only one, but there was only one complete implosion) and recall with glee the discussion in which people declared that they would make Braidshipping (Duo Maxwell/Edward Elric) their pairing and defend it with the same vigor as everything else. These people being facetious and making up several other different "OTPs" for the series, but the Duo Maxwell/Edward Elric subthread is the one I remember. It's good when you get together to mock shipping idiocy in a flamewar thread.

Hi.

Please marry me, kthnx.

No, for real now. I haven't jumped into KH fandom yet (I am still stalled outside the final boss of KH2. What is wrong with me, OMG?) but this can soso easily be applied to all kinds of fandoms. Because, yeah, I'm on the fringes of a zillion different fandoms, and really the only one I ever read much fic in is HP. Most of the others either get badfic for my pairing(s) of choice, or just don't get much of anything at all for my pairing(s). Rather than going, "OMGOMG where is (insert pairing)!?" or "Why is there all this (insert pairing)!!!?" I just keep scrolling.

I suppose I'll really be in trouble if my mouse and arrow keys should ever choose to die. Then I won't have any choice what I'm seeing in fandom. Woe.

I would, but I believe you're already married! Casual sex?

Yes, it IS a plague on all fandoms -- the idea that popular pairings are EVIL somehow. We had it in KKM fandom: Yuuri/Wolfram was the be all and end all of fandom existence, and later Shinou/Daikenja, and therefore those pairings were reviled! Now, a lot of fans prefer rare pairings and are fair about it. Notably, the people in [livejournal.com profile] omg_maou, like Haunt.

I have no problem with other people's pairings, and I expect them to have no problem with mine. Why is this so hard? XD "Oh NOES there's so many THINGS on my friends list! Curse those productive fans!!1"

Did you just... nice-troll me? Where is your comment?

[identity profile] kay-willow.livejournal.com 2007-06-22 10:28 pm (UTC)(link)
I actually still see this attitude a lot on KHFFR. :\ Even just as a throwaway sneer, if not as a whole rant. But I was stunned at the general hatred for Axel/Roxas there in particular -- people would in totally tangential conversations go "this person is just as bad as Axel/Roxas fans!" or "it's like people who say that Axel and Roxas are in luuurve even though they have no hearts!" And you can not like the pairing, but what is the flaming hate-on for anyone with a "popular" (ie, fanbrat) opinion?

And last year, after August 13th, there were so many people complaining about "8/13 day". Even on the day after. Hundreds of comments just relentlessly whining about it, and then about how come nobody flooded anyone's flist for Demyx/Vexen day?!?!

I'm personally waiting until August 13th to see if A) there's another flood of shipping, and B) renewed whining about the flood. XD

I actually think that the niceness is part of why KHFFR feels so awkward to me. :\ Because they're all so quick to agree with each other and to think that anyone who disagrees with a poster is causing trouble-- Just because you're on KHFFR doesn't mean you can't have a stupid opinion. A little while back, a friend of mine was trolled on her personal LJ and the troll posted a sneering rejoinder on KHFFR which my friend was a member of. The rant made no sense -- she quoted some of my friend's post about why Axel/Larxene doesn't work, and then in between the quotes she ranted about "what makes you think Axel/Roxas is so much better?!?"

And KHFFR responded en masse to go, "Yeah! Those damn Axel/Roxas shippers are so single-minded and hate every other pairing! Get out of my fandom, you're embarrassing me!" And my friend was like, "........that had nothing to do with Axel/Roxas." But there were hundreds of posts where everyone was so busy picking up torches against intolerant Axel/Roxas fans that none of them ever noticed that

The mods, however, noticed, and called the poster on her bullshit. The poster went and deleted the post because it was "getting wanky" and "apologized" and she "never wanted to start trouble" -- and everyone on the community rushed to say, oh, no, it's okay. :O Don't be sad, cheer up, we all make mistakes. But not all of us troll people and then delete their trolling and then flame them in public and get hundreds of people who barely read the rant to agree with them and comfort them when they get in trouble for it.

If KHFFR weren't "nice", she would've been run out for pulling that kind of crap. But because it's "nice" and no one disagrees with anyone and everyone wants everyone else to feel good, they went and comforted the troll and left the innocent victim in the position of being the bad guy for daring to rile up bad will against the poor poor troll.

I'm not ashamed to say that I think KHFFR is good idea, too elitist. Anyone who posts in KHFFR just gets a general pass for stupidity. And I don't think that's what a rant community needs to be. That just makes people who normally thrive in rant communities want to rant about it.

[identity profile] kay-willow.livejournal.com 2007-06-23 12:10 am (UTC)(link)
It's no big deal, honestly. I hope that she takes down that link, but more what I hope is that more people from KHFFR come here and read this and think about it, instead of just saying "She's generalizing by assuming we all have one of two opinions! I'm too awesome to fit into her box!" Those are two extremely broad opinions -- I think most of any fandom fits into them. XD

But that probably won't happen, so, yeah. I'd rather just have the link taken down.

But I'm tough! I can handle it. And I'm glad you liked some of my fics. ^^

Re: Did you just... nice-troll me? Where is your comment?

[identity profile] lazzchan.livejournal.com 2007-06-22 11:49 pm (UTC)(link)
I actually didn't mean to post on your journal (I felt bad when I realized what I did and deleted it right away) but I agree with a lot of what you said here.

It has gotten better since that time, IMO, and generally? I don't care one way or another about shipping. Anyone can be paired together, *laughs* and when people play like a bunch of immature, emotionally stunted brats, it makes me upset.

My main problem with pairings is NOT the pairing... but the way it's portrayed. I really wouldn't care if they shipped Donald/Goofy-- as long as it was written in a way that preserved the characters.

I think that a lot of people did get bad last year, but some of the Axel/Roxas fans would create a big deal about stuff and a bad name for the rest of their group. Same with any pairing.

KHFFR tries to not troll (there are bad apples, as in any community) and they generally try and keep a level head about stuff. Due to a lot of bad rants before, the rules and mods have tightened down on a lot of things. There are NO posts allowed about the general ships themselves, just if they paint such and such character as completely opposite as to what they are.

Yes, it's been called elitist and all sorts of fun stuff, but...really? It has it's good and bad points and I'm sorry your friend got treated in such a way or that anyone would do such a thing. It's generally not like that and a point was made that "if you don't agree with this, say so!" so it's not all head-nodding sheep.

There's times where I don't agree with a poster and I'll say so. Maybe it needs to be cleaned up more, who knows? We'll see what happens in the future with it.

=D

Re: Did you just... nice-troll me? Where is your comment?

[identity profile] kay-willow.livejournal.com 2007-06-23 12:05 am (UTC)(link)
I totally agree -- in my rant, I'm a member of group "1". I like pairings. I don't care if it's popular or unpopular or I'm the only one who ships it. I just like it when relationships are well-developed and multi-faceted. You could write anything and if it were well-done, I'd applaud happily. As long as you don't run around attacking other people's ships (and other people for what they ship instead of what they do) I have no problem with whatever you ship, be it Sora/Kairi, Xigbar/Axel, or Riku/Pluto.

Anyway, the example with my friend was just an example. It's not the reason why I originally got fed up with KHFFR-- I think I left it long before that happened. (Also over Axel/Roxas haters, but I swear I'm not obsessed -- at least back then, the prejudice was obvious and all over the place and everyone I knew who liked the pairing even a little was annoyed with KHFFR's attitude. I got called a troublemaker for telling someone that her raging hate-on for Axel/Roxas was a little hypocritical in light of what she was ranting about -- and she went and spilled wank all over everyone else who commented anywhere in the thread, "My sister was molested when she was Roxas's age ergo Axel/Roxas is child molestation" -- and it was still all my fault. Damn Axel/Roxas shippers, always causing trouble, etc.)

People on my flist still post and talk about how some of the rants there -- and the way everyone agrees -- drives them crazy. I'm better off not there, since I'm ranting to this day, I bet. XD
