On the subject of [profile] khfanficrants

In my experience, there are two kinds of shippers.

1) Fans who like pairings.
2) Fans who like unusual pairings.

People in group #2 seem to feel entitled somehow, like it's personally offensive how people of a #1 persuasion enjoy their favorite pairings even though everybody else enjoys them. If you don't like Axel/Roxas? Good for you. That's something you're entitled to. I have no complaints and welcome your "alternate" pairings.

But don't automatically leap to smack down the pairing, don't sneer at people who do like it, don't insist that it makes you physically ill to see it on your flist. It's your oversensitivity, not the popularity of the pairing, that's causing you problems.

Don't hate the ship! Hate the stupid fangirls who flood the ship with OOC poorly-written ridiculous fluff that has nothing to do with the actual canon. If those stupid fangirls were flooding your flist with Luxord/Demyx, you'd all hate that pairing too, but it's still not the pairing you hate. It's the stupid fangirls.

What I'm saying is, when someone goes, "It sure is hypocritical that all the people who sneered at the concept of 8/13 day get very excited about 9 month," don't whine about how 8/13 day was different because of all the spam. It's still hypocritical. Both ideas are perfectly stupid. Don't bash the idea of having a "day" for a pairing and then turn right around and insist it's okay when you do it for a pairing that offends you less.

Because you know what? The pairing isn't hurting you.

The stupid fangirls are hurting you.

You, and your oversensitivity, is what's hurting you.

Edit, 6/22/07: Welcome, people from KHFFR. You should be aware that this post was made nine months ago after a huge amount of ranting about "AkuRoku" Day that was way more annoying than AkuRoku Day. Enjoy your blast to the past.

Also, for those of you who actually bothered to read and didn't just go off what the poster said: Please don't claim that I am generalizing all of you into a box by generalizing absurdly yourself. I don't actually think you're all a single entity. I'm sure you're all unique snowflakes with your own wonderful opinions, but you have to understand that in the mob roar of "WORD" it's hard to hear them.

Hi.

Please marry me, kthnx.

No, for real now. I haven't jumped into KH fandom yet (I am still stalled outside the final boss of KH2. What is wrong with me, OMG?) but this can soso easily be applied to all kinds of fandoms. Because, yeah, I'm on the fringes of a zillion different fandoms, and really the only one I ever read much fic in is HP. Most of the others either get badfic for my pairing(s) of choice, or just don't get much of anything at all for my pairing(s). Rather than going, "OMGOMG where is (insert pairing)!?" or "Why is there all this (insert pairing)!!!?" I just keep scrolling.

I suppose I'll really be in trouble if my mouse and arrow keys should ever choose to die. Then I won't have any choice what I'm seeing in fandom. Woe.

I would, but I believe you're already married! Casual sex?

Yes, it IS a plague on all fandoms -- the idea that popular pairings are EVIL somehow. We had it in KKM fandom: Yuuri/Wolfram was the be all and end all of fandom existence, and later Shinou/Daikenja, and therefore those pairings were reviled! Now, a lot of fans prefer rare pairings and are fair about it. Notably, the people in [livejournal.com profile] omg_maou, like Haunt.

I have no problem with other people's pairings, and I expect them to have no problem with mine. Why is this so hard? XD "Oh NOES there's so many THINGS on my friends list! Curse those productive fans!!1"
