Lack of emo or tact

Enough of that damn emo on my LJ. *kicks it*

I would do this meme I just saw which was like, "Name a fandom and I will name an unpopular opinion I have about it," but I do that all the time anyway. (Hey, y'all, I don't care what anyone says: Will Turner is a jackass.)

Instead, I ask intelligent questions. Has anyone else consolidated student loans and has some tales of woe and/or recommendations for me? I need to because my payments are coming up in, uhh, August.

Mine were consolidated through AES also, and that's where I do my payments. However I thought I got a notice in the mail a while back that they might have been sold to Sallie Mae - I'm not totally positive, am going to go look tonight.

AES has been great though, and they'll send email reminders for your payments :)

My mother used to work at a bank, and she said that they would sometimes sell accounts, yes. If yours were sold to Sallie Mae, I'd get away from them ASAP. Sallie Mae has a habit of not applying your payment where it's supposed to go and then charging you fees out the wazoo. They lost a deferment form--fortunately, I had records--and even though the back-dated the deferment for the time period in question, they still wanted me to pay a small fortune in fees on it. We had Words. With the supervisor's supervisor. But that's a REGULAR OCCURENCE with Sallie Mae.

Would my loan be owned by Sallie Mae though if I am still continuing to pay through the AES website?

I've heard lots of bad stuff about Sallie Mae in the past few months.

I really ought to read the boring letters...

If you're paying through the AES website, then they're still owned by AES. You may have gotten one of their stupid "give us your money and business!" letters. I get them all the time.
