On new glasses

When you are blind like me and first get a new pair of glasses -- or lenses in your glasses -- there is a brief, twenty-minute period of utmost clarity and wonder at how sharp and refined the world can be. You can see every individual petal on every flower in a bush. You can see with such distinction that you forget how fuzzy around the edges everything is the rest of the time.

It's a kind of dorky rush.

My new glasses are the most librarianly things I own, but they look awesome.

Oh man, I know, I LOVE that feeling. I still remember looking out the window of the eye doctor's office after I got glasses for the first time in years in seventh grade and being amazed that I could distinguish that there were multiple leaves on a tree in the parking lot.

It's kind of amazing. I spent the whole ride home going, "So this is how normal people see! Or maybe it's better than how normal people see."

Hehe, I know that feeling too~ oddly enough though, I don't like it. Makes me feel too... exposed, or something. (Which is why I'm glad that my eyes are no longer getting worse, prescription-wise.)

But yay for new glasses! You should take pictures!

It's very disorienting at first, so I understand your feelings on the matter. My eyes have pretty much stabilized too, but I'd had my lame boring glasses for years and I finally have a Real Job with vision coverage, and since they'd cover new frames and new lenses, I figured, what the hey, it's only a tiny upgrade but shiny new toys for minimal money!

I should take pictures. When I'm being less of a hen. If any of them turn out not scary. :(

That's my favorite thing in the world :3

Also, WTB pix!

I LOVE THAT FEELING LIKE ZOMG! It, seriously, is the best feeling in the world in my opinion.

I just had my first new prescription in about five or six years, and I'm getting contacts out of it, and I AGREE, the feeling is something awesome.

Aww, we would love to see pictures of you & the new glasses!

Also, you're right. The new prescription thing is such a rush, I always feel a bit disappointed when it wears off (though I know scientifically it has to).

It's so disorientating though. Everything is so sharp. It feels weird. But I do love it too. :3

I love that feeling :) Although it is also scary because it reminds me how bad it would be if my glasses simply broke and I had no way of getting new ones for a while. You know, like if I was on the run from zombies...

Ooooh, sexy librarian. :3
