Hinamori the prom queen

A lot of people on my friends list were rly upset earlier about the newest chapter of Bleach, because of Ishida and Mayuri's interaction in there. Me, I'm just going to keep looking at the long term. As long as KT addresses it one way or another, I'm okay with it.

Me, I'm more kind of stunned about the results of the popularity poll. Okay, Hitsugaya is at the top, surprise surprise, Rukia is second, way to go, she deserves it after the Aaroniero fight, etc.

Hinamori is sixth?

Don't get me wrong, I love Hinamori. But this boggles me some because the last time there was a popularity contest, Hinamori was in the top twenty, but not the top ten, and since then she's -- uh -- become kind of a non-entity. We know she exists and is doing and thinking things, Imitated Gaiety proved that, but she hasn't appeared for over a year in either the manga or the anime or any of the movies. Why is she at the top of the list there? There is zero reason she should've beaten Renji or Orihime.

I don't get the Japanese sometimes I guess.

It's not just you -- you were just the most recent of at least three or four indignant posts I've seen about it (at least two of them swearing off Bleach) and I think it's over-reacting a little. XD

It's true that KT walked right into a sensitive issue and played it for laughs, so I understand why you're upset -- but not why people are just giving up on Bleach because someone is being comedic. I get absolutely zero sense that KT is making fun of Ishida or belittling his issue with Mayuri. Attempting to be dramatic about it while Ishida is incapable of standing up, dying, would only make him more ridiculous, and the target of more mockery from Mayuri, if not outright getting stabbed in the head because Mayuri is tired of hearing him. Gritting his teeth and being mature enough to set it aside for the moment is definitely the path of valor here. I have never even for a moment thought that Ishida's opinions of Mayuri have changed.

What I mean about addressing it is that it's not cool at all, if, say, we're just going to go ahead and pretend that Ishida never had any problem with Mayuri, lalala we're all friends. But as long as it is addressed in some way -- as long as KT shows us that he's aware that Ishida has something to say here -- I honestly don't feel anything out of place here. Any day month year now (giving time for another damn year long battle) I'm expecting Ishida to turn and confide in Renji that it's hard to be saved by someone so despicable, someone he wants to kill.

So I feel like this is a case of fangirls overreacting, and then other fangirls hearing their objections and going, "Hey, she's right!" when I (perhaps a more impartial observer, being only recently a fan of Ishida's) have never gotten that impression at all. I feel like this whole thing might in fact be a case of cultural differences. XD

Anyway, that's my ramble. I realize why Ishida fans have gotten upset, I just personally kind of think this is all based on misunderstandings and it's being blown out of proportion somewhat.

Self-consciously, I can admit that I overreact 95% of the time to Bleach, especially when it pertains to Ishida -- O-obviously it's in my nature as an Ishida fan to overreact because lol look at him or. Something.

Mm, I understand where you're coming from, and it's more than reasonable. In hindsight from my initial wtf reactions, (and really, you should hear me talk in life, with uh friends about this kind of thing, it's embarrassing -- I'd tell you to ask [livejournal.com profile] icemilk if uh you talked to her, but, different fandoms -- I just speak thoughts as they come into my head and only sort of edit them post vocalizing them, which is ridiculous), obviously Ishida can't do anything. It would be even more out of character for a genuinely intelligent character to make a fuss or do anything but what he's been doing.

So, I suppose I have to admit in hindsight that I've been oversensitive to teh comedy, which is ... uh, embarrassing, because it's comedy. I guess it just burned because it was Mayuri, and wow, suck. And no, even with the latest chapter where I boggled at the connotations of the question in its translation, and previously when it was all crack comedy crack, I -- wasn't sure what I thought re: Ishida's question, but that little note on cultural differences does make a lot more sense.

I was really surprised when all these people started agreeing with me. o_O Mostly, the comedy fell a little flat on my end, I guess because it's weird to see Mayuri be used as a comedic figure when considering the really despicable things he's done in the past, and it may simple be that the comedy is there for that very reason, to help us ease into this idea of him being remotely heroic in the idea of this Szayel fight .. but I'm not even sure heroic is the right word, because, I don't think I could ever settle for that, nor can I imagine KT would encourage that, as I gather even from the crack that Mayuri isn't so much a hero as he is seriously weird.

idk, I admittedly over-reacted, and if I really don't read Bleach anytime soon it'll be because of TotA and SCHOOL.

(Speaking of cultural differences, having read the original Japanese, I promise you that Ishida was not really concerned for Mayuri's health. Blame the translators: I'm like 95% certain he's referring to what he perceives as a stupid move on Mayuri's part -- he's like, "Uh, is that really okay, to leave your zanpakutou broken like that?" It's just a very traditional Japanese way of saying, "Isn't that... stupid?")

I don't read Japanese but that's how I read the translation. Typical shounen antics. Nothing at all, really. And I'm a huge Ishida fan. Yeah, a couple of my friends were upset. I agree with you that Ishida's been valiant here--I like his standing up to Mayuri while lying there gutless so to speak. The bickering just shows that Ishida isn't allowing himself to be totally victimized. He's being the same ole defiant Ishida I love.
