I have concluded that cats are weird.

Roxaskitty has these treacherous, lying little purrs. He doesn't like it when you touch him or pick him up, unless he's in the mood or is too sleepy to remember he doesn't like it, but he purrs all the time. Any contact is enough to set him off.

"You picked me up and I'm squirming and flailing but also, purring." It is cause for celebration if Roxas tolerates picking-up for more than thirty seconds, which is a travesty, because he is Tiny, and tiny means he should be picked up.

"You trapped me on the ground and are petting me and I don't like it, but I will purr before I manage to squirm free and make annoyed squeaking sounds that pass for meows." He's a very vocal and demanding cat and will yowl at you incessantly until you give him whatever he wants, such as more food, even though both bowls are full.

Or, this morning, "My claw is trapped in the carpet and I am pitiful in my attempts to do things with this paw stuck, so you grabbed my toes and attempted to lever my paw out, and I started purring for no reason while attempting to attack your hand."

When he's sleepy, though, that's when you strike. Any other time you are a threat to his independence. He's very energetic and constantly finding new things to play with, such as twisty-ties, Ela, skirts, wires, or sleeping Ela.

Roxaskitty does not seem to know how to be affectionate properly; his method is to go for the neck and bite. Ela is very patient with this, even if he has recently been asleep, and gradually winds up getting up and playing with him. One would think he is long-suffering, but Ela will wander around aimlessly if Roxas isn't there and/or playing with him, then initiate a game of Marco Polo until Roxas, sensing play in the air, comes to tackle him.

Self-fulfilling prophecies in names?

(Still no word on my cat Hoshi.)
